A You've likely heard of the advanced skills of the Inca Empire. From creating a reliable system of measurement and communication to building a 25, 000-mile road system, the Incas were brilliant, innovative people. However, like many native populations, they were bested by the Spanish conquistadors when they invaded in the mid-1500s. The European conquerors stole or destroyed much of the priceless Inca art and artifacts, so we must rely on stories and legends to build the narrative of what life was like for the Incas.

The paradox of being an advanced society, and then being taken over by one with better technology. I think people should more clarify that they might have been more advanced IN THIS REGION. There were native americans still living in the stone age with temporary huts and very few metal tools in the year 1800, and the only guns they had were traded. They made no guns. They might have been advanced but only when you compare to other people in the area nearby. Look elsewhere in the world and people are waaaaayyyyy more advanced

What probably didn't help the Inca was that the Spanish invaded in the middle of a civil war. The emperor and his heir had both just died of what was likely smallpox, and two different princes went to war for the throne.

0: 06 There is a classic Looney Tunes short called There Auto Be A Law (1953) where the timid motorist (voiced by Mel Blanc) can't figure out how to get out of the highway system.
Hilarious!

Some people still are baffled by the downfall of the Inca civilization (among others. Never underestimate the power of viruses. I'm sure it killed way more Incas than the Spanish.

The noble and courageous man is known by his patience in adversity. Impatience is a sign of a vulgar and low mind, badly taught and worse trained.

The Spanish and other Europeans who entered South American areas did so much to ruin civilizations with whom they came in contact.
