If you come at the king, you d best not miss, and if you do succeed, you d better be ready to look over your shoulder for the rest of your days. Even when a conspiracy to topple a king actually succeeds, that doesn t mean things worked out for the perpetrators. Regicide often comes with unforeseen costs.

Many of these I was unaware of, so that's cool. But I think there are a couple of backstab backfires that had (in some cases) truly historical influence. A couple of examples, 1: Benedict Arnold's backstab of the Continental Army gets Major Andre executed and does nothing to help the British. 2: Japan's backstab against the U. S. A. with the peacetime surprise attack on Pearl Harbor does not result in knocking out the U. S. Pacific Fleet and the population of the U. S. cowering from a war, instead it results in Japan's wartime gains to be lost and its imperial ambitions to be completely annihilated.

I do have sympathy for Brutus, I think he was facing a horrible dilemma, he believed in the republic (as imperfect as it was) and knew Caesar was intent on replacing it with a dictatorship, and he wanted to protect his country from Caesar. But Caesar was his Uncle and he had a close relationship with him, Caesar in general showed affection for Brutus. so he had to choose between the Republic or a loving and close family member. In the end he lost both

Gwee-lee-ano? Are you kidding me? It's pronounced, Juliano! Giu- is a tripthong in Italian, pronounced Ju, or jew, or joo.
And yes, I looked it up. It was Giuliano and Lorenzo, who were killed. While gui- in Italian exists and would be pronounced gwee-, as in Guido, you've still got the facts on the names wrong.
Better editing and fact checking is needed here.

Great video. I was familiar with Oda Nobunaga and Akechi Mitsuhide due to various japanese videogames telling the story of the 'demon king' Nobunaga.
I didn't know Akechi was defeated by a random bandit a week later though. Thats kinda lame and sad. lol
Lu Bu is another person i know due to videogames. Hes powerful in the Dynasty Warrior games.

Accounts from the battle from the Japanese indicate Won Gyun did survive the fighting, but simply waited on the shore afterwards to be captured and executed. While the motive is unclear, it's likely he recognized the horrific fate that awaited him if he returned to the Chosin court a failure and choose a quicker death.

The Pazzi originally hired a professional assassin to kill the Medici, but the contract killer didn't feel he could murder men while they knelt at mass. They found a priest who when they guaranteed absolution, had no such qualms about helping in the assassination, and the plot went forward.

I've always questioned the death of Cleo/Mark Anthony. She doesn't strike me as the kind of Girl who would just turn over and play dead. I suspect Spin as bad as modern politics. Nor do I think she would have abandoned her other 2 kids. There are stories of them going to Scotland.

Caesar and Napoleon are two prominent figures in world history who played significant roles in their respective eras. Both leaders achieved great successes with significant victories, but they also faced setbacks and historic stabs in the back.

Caesar, a Roman politician and military strategist, became one of the most famous and influential leaders of ancient Rome. He introduced reforms in politics, economics, and the military, strengthening the position of the Roman Empire. However, his successful career was cut tragically short when, in 44 BC, Caesar was assassinated by a group of conspirators, including his closest allies. This stab in the back struck Caesar because of his immense power and his desire to establish himself as the monarch of the Roman Empire. As a result of his death, Rome was thrown into chaos, beginning a period of civil wars that eventually led to the final decline of the Republic.

Napoleon Bonaparte was a French military and political figure who became emperor of the French Empire. Napoleon became famous for his military victories and great reforms in France, bringing stability and progress to the country. He created his own dynasty and tried to expand his power throughout Europe. However, his plans were halted by a major stab in the back - the military campaign in Russia in 1812. The French army was defeated by Russian forces and heavily defeated. This defeat was the beginning of the end for Napoleon, who was forced to abdicate and was sent into exile on the island of St. Helena.
