Some events in history are pretty well-known. You likely have some familiarity with the sinking of RMS Titanic, the first time man walked on the moon, and the assassination of Abraham Lincoln, whether it's from school, the media, or popular culture. These are game-changers, watershed moments, times when an opportunity presented itself or, just as often, when disaster and hardship struck. To find out more about these incidents, go here:

You guys didn’t mention the sinking of the USS Indianapolis. Known as the worst disaster in US Navy history, the massive ship was struck multiple times by a Japanese submarine during World War II. Thousands upon thousands of soldiers died, with many of them floating in the oil filled oceans for days perishing to multiple things including Shark attacks. Only a few hundred men survived the attack and is completely lost to history due to nuclear bombings on japan happening around the same time, ending the Second World War. And fun fact, the whole reason why the USS Indianapolis was even at this location to begin with was because they were LITERALLY transporting the nuclear bombs for the US to drop.

I've read about the Wisconsin fire and it still surprises me that not that many people have heard about it. Someone once said that the sinking of the Sultana was worse then the Titanic in terms of how many people died. Here's two more celebrity deaths that were overshadowed because another famous person died around the same time. Groucho Marx the cigar smoking leader of the Marx Brothers died three days after Elvis Presley and Mother Teresa wasn't talked about that much because Princess Diana died a few weeks before with people still talking about Diana instead.

As a Memphian, I have to clarify, the Sultana sunk two miles north of Memphis in the Mississippi River. The river is difficult to swim for experienced swimmers. There have been several professional divers that have died in the river due to the undertow. Sultana started in Vicksburg, MS and took on more people in Memphis, then two miles north the boiler blew. The flames from it were reported to be seen in Memphis. The wreck has been found in a field in Arkansas, due to the former changing flow of the river.

On the fact of Dec 7, 1941. Hawaii. Please check, I believe that you will find that the Japanese launched their invasion, however due to the international time change, history records the Philippines as Dec 8, 1941.
It was one massive attact.
News reached the Philippines that an attack on Pearl Harbor was in progress at 02: 20 local time on 8 December 1941.

Also an honorable mention the Boston bombing that occurred killing four people around the same time of that incident happened a West Texas factory had an explosion killing 14 people. I remember new stations non-stop talking about Boston but very few of them mentioned West Texas

I just started the video and I am assuming it's not in the video but may be.
A health guru from the 1980s or 1990s died just a mere hours before Trump's first assassination attempt in July. I remember that day very clearly. Then, just after the first attempt, the news of his passing was almost not shown at all

As someone from Chicago, Illinois in Jan 1986 after the Chicago Bears won the Superbowl, a day or two after the parade, no one was talking about them because of the Space Shuttle Challenger exploded; Their visit to the White House was canceled for good reason that would not be made up until 2011.

I was waiting for a video like this. I was getting ready for my Boy Scout trip to Philmont. MJ died right before I went. My mom wasn’t the biggest MJ fan, but she was born the same year and grew up with him. She was shocked. Hard to believe kids born that time are now in early high school. Old

UmMichael Jacksonmedication prescribed by a doctor Not quite. Jackson was having that doctor give him anesthesia every night. The same stuff they use to put you under for surgery. Except in the hospital they are closely monitoring you. That stuff is not intended for home use.

Lol. I'm from the Texas city area. It's majority black. Everyone knows of the disaster, but not the Jackie Robinson stat. You'd think it'd come across at least once during black history month, but no. Not even during 1 of the many juneteenth celebrations

Tornado outbreak of April 12, 1945 was swept out of the public view because of the death of FDR.
Eric Carr, drummer for the band KISS died in 1991, and never received a line from the press because it was the same day that Freddie Mercury died.

Finally someone mentions that the US bombed the Philippines too -- though not to the nuclear degree, the physical and political damage still affects us to this day. What more with all the other countries also ruined by the US at the time.

I was 9 years old on the birthday of our saviour in 1974, when Darwin was all but wiped out in the early morning hours by cyclone Tracy. 66 died, 80% of the city was destroyed and those left alive, all left their devastated city

My third great-grandfather was actually a survivor of the Sultana disaster. He lived a long life after that and died just a week and a half shy of his 98th birthday in 1938, according to my grandfather's genealogy research.

Man some of these were just terrible timing like the rowing guy and the female pilot. I do remember Farrah Fawcett’s death the day MJ died but she was ultimately ignored by the greater pop icon

I remember at work one of my co-workers asking if there was any black man more famous than Michael Jackson. I said Nelson Mandela who he'd never heard of. My co-worker was black by the way.

If I recall correctly, Cecil B. DeMille and Carl Alfalfa Switzer died on the same day in 1959. DeMille's death made frontpage news, while Switzer's was buried further away in the papers.
