You forgot to mention that the series finale of Newhart aired on May 21, 1990. The sitcom ended its eight-season run with a twist revealing that the entire series was (spoiler alert) a dream sequence from The Bob Newhart Show. Beautifully done & still holds up 35 years later (Fun fact: a pre-Friends Lisa Kudrow appeared in the final episode, which was titled The Last Newhart, as one of the wives of Larry, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl. Also, season 1 of Seinfeld (which consisted of only four episodes) began airing on May 31, 1990, almost a full year after its pilot. What a time to be alive!

As an 8-year-old in 1990, I still remember the excitement I had watching the show premiere of THE FLASH which basically introduced me to the character. I also remember watching the premieres of Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and In Living Color with my family. I can't forget the memories of going to the theaters to see Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with friends. When TMNT released on VHS, it was an even bigger event. I believe 1990 was the year the movie Home Alone came out too which I also saw in theaters. Man, those were the days.

Since Timeline won't do it:
June 7, 1990 marked the first broadcast of Nickelodeon from their new studio headquarters at Universal Studios in Orlando Florida. Hosted by game show host Marc Summers, the 3-hour live celebration featured celebrity musical numbers interspersed with promotional highlights of rides from the park featuring Nickelodeon's sitcom child actors. Attempting to sabotage the broadcast were a cabal of bumbling, anti-fun adults.

I was 10/11 in 1990 and remember all of these. My favorite was The Simpsons, which my parents also enjoyed. But it was a controversial show when it came out and my cousins and most of my friends were not allowed to watch it, and all Simpsons merchandising was banned from school after one kid wore the infamous underachiever and proud of it Bart Simpson t-shirt. The 90s was a wild time for moral outrage.

I was wondering what would come after Timeline, since that series was a lot of fun but going back into the sixties or fifties was going to be tougher with the quality and quantity of the footage available from then. This looks like an interesting direction (makes sense, too; gives us plenty to look at as we watch. Let's see what I can recognize!

90 was a crazy year for me in the Army! Left Korea after my 2nd tour which was 3 yrs, reported into FT Irwin/NTC in April! Then August everything went nuts with Desert Shield/Storm eventually deploying for it! Didn’t get to see much of any these shows till latter 91/92 and I went back to Korea in 91 after returning from DS!

I never knew there was a tv show called living colour, i only know the name was a band name living colour and the tv show 21 jump street was good the movie was really bad, Alf was good, 90210 was bad, never knew there was a IT tv show, as what i remember most of the other tv shows might not have shown here in Australia.

Seems that this video showed those shows that were first aired, got recognition, and launching the careers of various actors and actresses. I would love to have this concept video expanded by adding some more controversies considering that there are so many shows and news every year that deserve to be mentioned.

I will forever have a great disdain for Jay Leno because of what he did to Arsenio Hall (as well as Dennis Miller) in the early 90s. I dont care how cutthroat the business is. What he did was LOW. Intentionally sabotaging Hall and Miller because he was desperate was an ugly move.

Seen Roseanne Barr is not famous for her singing as ironic because she was the number one rapper in the world just a few weeks ago. I assume either you didn’t know that she is the number one music artist or you ignored it when you wrote that she is not famous for her singing.

I was 10 in 1990. I wish I could go back. 99% of the people I love that mattered to me most in the world were still alive at that time. My family was all together all the time and the friendships at that time were the best friendships I ever had in my lifetime

The Jim Henson episode taught an important lesson. If you feel sick, get to the doctor. His delay, and thinking that there was nothing really seriously wrong, is what led to his death. He easily could have been treated and saved.

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories.

I really hope you guys highlight when the Howard stern show premiered on the E! network. That was monumental for a lot of teenage boys staying up till 11pm on school nights just see naked chicks.
Baba Booey!

In Living Color launched the careers of David Alan Grier and Jim Carrey while I love DAG’s body of work I’d say Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lopez and Rosie Perez have had bigger careers than him.
reply

Only thing I really have any gripe with is that Shannon Doherty and Tiffany Amber Thiessen already had careers before 90210 began, so they couldn’t have been launched by the show.

As a big Stephen King fan I'm delighted that they made the newest IT movie 27 year later, just like in the books. Also bless Muschetti for making such a great remake of it.

The early 90s were like a hangover from the 80s. TV was quirkier, and fun.
I remember when Sam Kinison made fun of Dice on Arsenio.
Also please do a 1960s timeline.
