FWIW - He's showing and telling you how to do something, should you find yourself in said situation(s. Cooking shows do this all the time - they don't make the entire thing in one go and if something goes wrong, they film it again (off camera. Grylls doesn't need to sleep in a tree for the audience to get the concept. Why sleep in -30 if you've already told the viewer if it's dangerously cold, build this sort of shelter The viewer has the knowledge, and Bear doesn't get frostbitten and expensive equipment isn't breaking down during filming. of a guy sleeping. in the dark.
Lastly - it's for entertainment and general education. There have been many stories of people having been lost whilst hiking and they gave credit to this passive knowledge they learned from Grylls for helping them know how to do some basic survival techniques. In the end, Bear Grylls is a pretty good dude, does a lot of great work outside of his shows and books, and this is sort of a lazy swing at a non-issue.

One of those reality shows rented the bar I worked at for a couple weeks while they did their whatever. Everybody had to sign a waiver if they were gonna be on camera, the GM was told which waitresses to schedule and when, and everything they could possibly script they scripted. Nothing organic was allowed to happen, if anything did they'd cut it in post. I specifically told them not to film me, I'm in 3 of the programs as a heel or a foil. I only found out after A&E aired them, and then only when customers'd recognize me as being on that puerile show. I should've got paid up like the waitresses all did.
All them shows are fake. And the showrunners or other personalities on 'em are frauds, scammers, liars, poseurs, and probably as$holes, too.

While some of these shows like the one men versus the women on the island are pure comedy gold. Keep in mind you're not going to learn anything from any of the celebrity survival experts but you're not going to learn better from the Army survival escape and evasion manual because that's basically what they recycle. The only expert that has been in the mainstream media that anyone should take seriously is Ray Mears. This guy is the only one teaching the real deal and it's more Bushcraft than it is this nonsensical survival period and there is a big difference between Bushcraft and survival.

This is old news and not even in dispute. Also, Les Stroud is a crybaby who's still holding a huge petty grudge because his survival show never became nearly as popular as Bears. He's just a tiny smug Canadian guy who's full of himself and just comes off like a complete dick. and can't figure out why, to him at least, his show wasn't as popular. Sorry Les, but you lose all credibility as an expert in anything when you go with Bigfoot.

It was never passed off as 100% legit. Ots an instructional series, the camera men admitted that they werent able to follow him through lots of it and had their own form of transportation to get them ahead of bear.
The stuff grylls did to make the shots he did, is still a whole lot more than most people every watching his show.
Buncha nincompoops complaining and sad enough to make the video trying to call him out

The show was fun, and I'm totally ok with it being staged/faked, but the real crime here was how BAD his advice was. Basically everything related to eating or drinking was totally bogus and would get a regular person without a production staff into big big trouble. When I saw him burn the spines off of a poisonous caterpillar in order to make it safe, I got so mad I had to get up and pace around the room for a while, haha.

Never understood the controversy around this. Did people truly believe he just happened to be stranded on an island one day and called in a camera crew to film him escape Do people truly believe that TV production companies put the lives of their staff in true danger It's an entertainment show that gives you survival tips, not a real life documentary. If you felt mislead then you're just slow.

I've always preferred to watch Survivor Man which aired the same era/time as Man vs Wild. Survivor Man was more realistic. There was an episode when Les had to call his backup crew to come get him, because conditions were too harsh to survive. That showed that even with expert knowledge, the reality is that survival isn't always possible

I thought the one where he threw a chain or something and tried to catch a railing on a train trellis and then swing out not knowing if it would hold, was a bit ridiculous and not something someone was trying to survive would do. oh, and the one where he went into a flooding cave not knowing if there was a way out. same thing

EVERY reality show is faked. People are coached how to act and talk.
How is it that a person can barely survive week after week while the camera crew is right there having a blast
Also shows like Pawn Stars use a fake set, not a real shop. The Pawn Star crew are real jerks btw

I knew it was fake when sleeping in a cave and had to put thorn branches at the entry to ward off wild animals. In the southwest US. l also saw him fall in the water in freezing temperatures, build a fire, take off his wet clothes, dry them in about a half hour and then on his way.

Survivor Man TV show is superior. It's still not 100% realistic since the guy has to carry around 30 to 40 points of camera equipment but still he is totally alone and shows himself hunting and building his shelters and how to actually survive and what to eat.

Definitely an entertainer. Nothing else. As a longtime railroader; scaling a trestle and jumping onto a locomotive will do nothing but land you a hefty fine. Even jail time in the states.
Running from a bear will land you in its stomach

1: 05 Speaking of trees. Arbor Day was first celebrated in Nebraska in 1872!
I worked at TWO places with Arbors in the title. The Arbors (a memory care facility in Lincoln, Nebraska) and Arbor Care (a health and rehab facility in O'Neill, Nebraska.

I was once working a birthday party for a billionaire’s wife in Rancho Mirage. Bear Grylls was there and I was shocked at how short he was, so I passed on hors d'oeuvres tray over his head a couple times to demonstrate it to my co-workers

Please make a contrasting version of this video called Every Reason That Proves Survivorman Was Hardcore
1. Les Stroud (Survivorman) did everything on the show including the theme music to the show.
You guys can make the rest of the list.

I stayed there for a gathering about 15 years ago. I stayed 2 nights and the place has a wonderful atmosphere. I found it a very friendly and welcoming space and am truly grateful for the chance to have the run of a castle with friends.

ALL reality TV shows are faked to one degree or another. Some are just more fake then other. In this case he is an actor, and not an actual survivalist. That said to drink someone else's urine youd have to be pretty desperate for fame.

I didnt mind a lot of these. If the dude is actively jumping in cold water to teach you how to get out, having a tent or hotel at the end makes no difference.
The real issue, is the wrong advice, those could literally kill people
