1: 19 What could have been heard as an explosion would more likely be an _implosion_ if the sub was submerged at its time of disappearance. Poor maintenance or overlooked stress fractures in the hull and/or support structures could have given way under the immense pressure at even a moderate depth. Any explosion would be the result of some other accident up to and including the mishandling of a torpedo or a faulty torpedo, or even a WWII relic of a long forgotten sea mine. Begging the question of Torpedoed suggests that some other outside force with malicious intent sunk the sub which would be the most unlikely scenario, but not outside of the realm of possibility.

Thanks for this subject. I thought of a couple who were with a diving club and when they surfaced the boat was gone. they were left out there in open ocean they really needed flares to use or most likely they would have been saved. Anyway the couple was out there when a shark appeared and it got her husband then she just accepted death and went under. We may never really know what happened but they did recover their camera in a sharks stomach. The husband had said that being left out in the ocean happened more often than she thought. That has to be a horrible feeling.

I tried swimming across a river or delta in St Augustine, FL.
It fed directly into the Atlantic.
The dumbest thing I ever did.
I could've been swept out to the ocean, and nobody would've known where I was.
I was rescued by people who saw me from the shore. They managed to call people or lifeguards who came in a boat and fished me out.

I've never been called the brightest light bulb by anyone in any conversation,
BUT
I know the world's oceans and seas are full of sharks and we as humans are merely tasty snacks for sharks, and the main reason I refuse to even dip my toe in the ocean

With the advent of direct to cell from Starlink and I am guessing other providers eventually, it might be time to make a solarpowered device that can use that network and GPS like systems standard in all emergency packs.

Thanks for mentioning the ARA San Juan. There is a monument in the city next to where I live dedicated to the 44 crew members who perished. It is something that still hurts us as a nation years later.

I got lost at sea once. My jet ski battery died and it was about 5-10 miles off shore and no one knew. Thankfully this rando found me and gave me a dad joke seem you need help bud a guardian angel

It’s OK leave them lost us indigenous peoples found Christopher Columbus lost at sea, and that was the biggest mistake we made trying to help somebody lost at sea
