In the South, Spain would have done their usual tactic of establishing missions/trading posts. As much to keep other European powers out of the region as anything.
A factor not taken into account here is the Native Irish. They were traditionally on good terms with the French, many serving in the French Army when things went sour back home. I could imagine the French King inviting Irish peasants to emigrate to New France in the early 17th c. Doubtful that King James or Charles I would have had a problem with this. The Irish would have likely been sent to Upper Canada (Ontario bordering lakes Ontario & Erie) which was the frontier at the time. These people would have been encouraged to set up farms, rather than compete with Quebecois fur traders.
By 1800, we might have seen a hybrid French/Irish Canada, Iroquois holding control of Central/Western NY (no hope of an Erie Canal, no colonization of the American South, and much less population density in the Northeast. Seems likely that the Dutch would have figured out how to grow tobacco on the Delmarva peninsula at some point, and probably would have used slave labor for this. French colonization of the Mississippi Valley would slowly build as population pressure increased in France. Irish emigrants would go to Canada, while most French went to greater Louisiana settlements.

. Are you sure about that? Because while I don't know how it compares to the overall Quebecois population, it is nonetheless the case that hundreds - if not thousands - of Quebecois migrated westwards with the fur trade, especially after the fall of new France. When Manitoba joined confederation in 1870, it was a majority francophone province, and while the inhabitants considered themselves Metis rather than Quebecois (for a host of reasons beyond the scope of this post, it is undeniable that a majority (58% < X < 70%, by my estimation) of the province's population had Quebecois ancestry in 1870. So that's that's a thing.

Without the British piracy in the Caribbean and North Atlantic, the Spanish Empire would not have weakened as it did, so the French would not have been the predominant power on the region as this documentary suggests. Spaniards defeated the French on each and every occasion they both clashed. So the Spanish Empire would have very well survived into the twentieth century. thanks

1: 37 As South Africa has proven, the Dutch didn't have enough excess population. Next sentence, The Dutch were very tolerant. lol. Of course, the Dutch in the Netherlands were and remain very tolerant, but the contrast with South Africa makes me wonder about differences between Dutch in the Netherlands and Dutch emigrants.

You overlooked Newfoundland which is an interesting case. Back then it had huge reserves of cod and is the closest point in NA to Europe and would have been an desirable colony. Early on there were in fact Portuguese and Basques who started small colonies only to eventually be taken over by the English.

Since George Fox converted some Dutch to Quakerism, William Penn probably would've took a wave of Quakers and assimilated them in New Netherlands fleeing persecution. There was so many Quakers in Colonial Penslyvania that New Netherlanders probably would've been hybrids of Dutch and English.

If the English never had American Colonies, then they would be in the same boat as the Germans, forced to scramble for colonies in Africa. And since both powers would feel slighted by the other European powers, could they ultimately ally as part of the Central Powers, pre-WWI?
