Sci-Fi Short Film: ABI - DUST

Watch the DUST channel for our complete sci-fi library, feature films, and more Aside from the distractingly bad acting, the main problem with this is that there is such a sheer lack of essential context, what exactly are they working on and why is it so important who is ABI what does she do why is she important lots of computer lingo but Im not invested. This feels like it was ripped from a feature film, not a short film, bad context delivery or lack thereof, that is such a common problem with Sci-fi shorts because there is so much context and so little time. What virus is she trying to get out of her head why is that important what happens if they dont how big are the stakes such a lack of essential context.

I am sorry but. horribly badly done. The supposedly imaginary avatar uses a note block in the beginning. But, above all - human brains are AIs are not the same kind of system. If we have problems making an APPLICATION compatible to different versions of Windows - how hard would you think it would be to make a virus compatible to brains and artificial systems! Honestly, you can ask me. I am Director of Software Development here in Berlin. I know what I am talking about.

Really wouldn't recommend blocking the fan of your Cooler Master PSU (power supply unit) like that!
Nor is it a good idea to leave stray bits of cable & hot-melt glue in your expensive water-cooled gaming-rig!
Also, next time remember to renew your anti-virus subscription when its due, .& ensure everyone wears their face-masks!

This gives another example that female characters can't behave the way she did without some catch, unlike plenty male characters, which is annoying but this short is well done nonetheless. Clare Cooney is sooo good here that SPOILER I'm kinda disappointed that her character is not real.

Sorry, couldn't make it past half way. The filming was good, the acting mostly so, but my god the plot and story was just a bunch of dumb hacker/virus tropes and the characters were stereotypes. EDIT: Based on other comments, decided to finish watching. Standing fast on my comments.

MAYBE you all think OUR FATHER is joking, when he tells you, IF YOU USE HIS NAME, as a curse word, he'll send you to hell for it, HES NOT KIDDING. repent of that and stop now, and DON't do it anymore.

I liked the film but I was not to sure what was going on at the end. Was the guy losing his mind Or was the other girl coming back to life because of the virus

Why do we once again need yet another iteration of an AI gone sideways trope shot in a junior high school hallway with parts from Linus Tech Tip's e-waste bin
reply

Oh look they show the intelligence first. the explanation after that is just pathetic, it's forced, to say the least. The only redeeming factor is he acting.

Brilliant as always dust.
You make me proud to be an Australian.
The idea of a virus based on evil is incredibly powerful!

Julie is a real woman. Abi is a hallucination. Vincent has either gone insane or is somehow being controlled by the cyborg mainframe.

If you have a machine infected with malware, just turn the damn thing off and get technicians to purge it from the hard drives.

I totally didn't get this one. I love the DUST shorts, but this one threw me. I have no idea what I just watched.

This is why you don't use your CPU water cooling system to cycle blood and viruses.

the story is like GITM or MATRIX
ABI awareness infected computer like a virus

I wasn't expecting the twist at the end. This is great, from beginning of the end.
reply

This might be controversial, but I think these three should work in different departments.
reply

They must have filmed part of it in old school saw pencil sharper on the wall.
reply

Interesting! I have a doubt (SPOILER):
Is this about mental disease, instead of AI

reply

The twist seem like it was just thrown in because the movie had no direction.

I think this spurred another batch of anti-vaxxers afraid of nanotechnology.
