Sci-Fi Short Film To Err - DUST - Online Premiere
video description
Im left wondering however what the implied timeline is as to how many years these two were communicating, and the length of the intervals between kiaras transmissions at the end.
I think certain details to be essential, as the emotional impact on the viewer knowing that its a 20-year relationship would be Much different than what would be garnered if it was portrayed as having lasted only 4-years instead.
I sure am glad that mission control finally figured out a way to latch the transmit button so she didnt have to hold the button down while she spoke.
. otherwise she wouldnt have been able to play trumpet for Kiara!
I enjoyed this Very much. thanx!

Had the pleasure of having the script sent to me by my friend, Nanci (The Director, for a read through. And from the first to last page, I knew it was going to be a hit amongst audiences.
Later I got to experience an early rough cut to big screen showing at a local film festival and it was as poignant and beautiful as I hoped it would be.
It does pay subtle homages to previous sci fi films such as 2001, Blade Runner, Interstellar and even Her. This is a love letter to Science Fiction and space travel and the wonders both have brought us.
Hats off to all cast and crew.

I imagine there will be a parallel from this to when the Voyager spacecraft are no longer able to transmit a signal to earth. Maybe there won't be a trumpet played, but I'll bet there will be some tears when those missions are officially declared over. But they won't really be over even then. They have their golden records on board which should be readable for up to a billion years from now. Who knows what they will encounter But if somebody finds them in a few hundred million years, they will fulfill their mission by delivering the messages from Earth they carry.

A triumph of a film. No over reliance on CG, rather a great foundational idea & exposition of whats next but also who as in who am i (as the starship AI evolves its programming through the voyage raising concerns when it begins to question if erring is only capable by humans. Like the black hole, humanity thus far has not been able to see what death really is, rather its after effects. One day, like the spacefaring races of sci-fi maybe well be able to at least glimpse a part of what is, if anything, past the event horizon.

OMG! The tears are flowing. I always think about the people involved in these type of projects and how they feel about the machines they create and send out on their missions and their years long interactions with them. How heartbreaking it must be when they lose contact or the mission ends. How could a person not get emotionally invested in that machine's well being. And then add A. I. in to the mix, it almost becomes a morel question. How can we ask these machine to sacrifice themselves for us

It was such a pleasure to work on this film and develop an incredible vision with a small but talented team! It's so hard to believe we made this short film with practically ZERO budget and virtual contributors scattered across different states and even countries! Thank you so much to DUST for allowing us to share this beautiful story with you all. We hope you are moved to enjoy this short but vast experience.

A video that shows you don’t need flashing special effects or exploding spaceships to create SF. It was made with a minimum of actors and means, which created for me a sense of peace. And it is a touching story, much nicer than big budget Hollywood productions. Moreover, this video is much more human than most videos. Yes, there were some shortcomings in the story, but I loved it

Reminds me of attending the Cassini finale at Caltech. Beautiful sounds and images. I found the dialogue too vague to be moving or interesting, and felt the word inertia was misused in a way I couldn't ignore. I'd love to see this redone with a second attempt at the script to add more of a cogent narrative or philosophical element.

What a well done short! Space exploration has always fascinated me. Looking at the technology leaps since we launched he Voyager probes etc is pretty amazing. Not a leap at all to see the inclusion of advanced AI capabilities on future probes. Some of the conversations and discoveries could be quite interesting indeed.

I am overjoyed to have seen this film. What a perfect time for this nearly perfect presentation! Artificial Intelligence is the most explosively controversial subject of the day, next to nuclear war. I want to see more from everyone who worked on this project. You came together to make. well, magic.

To ask a question. This. Every journey undertaken comes with either complexity, or the most simple of curious and unknown experiences. With what experience do you ask a question The impact of an answer to a fundamental question cannot but move all involved. Phenomenal.

This is an incredibly amazing, sad, and breathtaking little film. It reminds me of how everyone felt when the mars rover shut down. Humans can feel empathy for anything, even robots. But the robot in this film felt empathy right back. It was amazing!

Truly wonderful in so many respects. Hearing Kiara evolve as a character/intelligence, and how Noelle, like so many of us, develops an attachment to her creation, rings true. Well done, well done indeed.

It's better, at some point,
to confront mortality rather than
hide from it.
This is true for humans
as well as human technology.
We will both eventually be
. recycled.

This is awesome! I do really like the story, it’s clear for me how Kiara’s feelings evolved and the bond between the characters. The effects were really well done as well.

Beautiful, haunting. Reminiscent of HAL in 2010 a Space Odyssey. Good sci Fi doesn't need a whole bunch of special effects. Just a good story.

Makes you wonder why NASA would be so cold or foolhardy to send an AI on a suicide mission. Couldn’t it decide it wouldn’t do it
