A father struggles to right a wrong committed several years before. If he fails his family dies. One Small Step by Zachary Purcell Connect with the Filmmakers: One Small Step The plan was dumb AF. The solutions in these movies are always so half baked it ruins the whole storyline. First he knows they are coming for him and his family so he starts prepping this plan. The first thing he does is starts putting money in a bank account that can be tracked And his wife is supposed to just go there and withdraw it all in cash like that isnt suspicious and wont tip off whatever corporate/govt entity is running this program. Then the money he puts there will last her a few months but she cant have any contact with family and cant make any friends for FIVE YEARS. Im assuming that means she wont be able to work if she isnt even allowed to talk to a person so she is supposed to stretch that money that was going to last a few months for 5 years Also, what is so special about 5 years that they get to live once they resurface and start making friends after 5 years

FCK ING A MA ZING. I was totally riveted. Intense! I read the comments - But cmon guys, it's not that hard to construct a plausable backstory. Obviously, time experiments, probably interest and funding from dark Defense contractors, government agency oversight waiting for a breakthrough. then they move to lock down the technology and anyone with knowledge. There's a whole lot of small print there that's fun to know but we didn't need to know for this vignette of one of the original team finding out about a planned cleanup of team and family, and what he tries to do. His acting and emotion were spot on. Love to see more of this, full movie or series. Pitch it to Netflix, guys!

Terrific production! The actors just deliver such great performances - the barely holding-it-together scientist is so hard to watch because the fear just radiates off him. And the cocky in-charge psychopath soldier says ' I feel weird' and now a race is on to get to the 'POD'. Really lovely production values, lighting, editing - can't say enough about the wild ride the storyline manages to create - every scene ramping up the energy. Thank you for believing your audience is smart enough to fill in the blanks and invest in this great mystery - Please do more!

This is another great episode/film/story I enjoyed immensely from DUST. I actually enjoy the guessing and I may watch them again a couple times. I watched LEAP already twice so far. Good as ever the second time around. For myself, the second time was better in some ways. I had a more developed identification with the characters the second time. If a story is told well, even the subject is secondary to the fixation of the ride. The writing gives me courage to write. I will be digesting these for some time.

So from what I can figure is this - The military has a weapon or the technology to freeze time for a matter of minutes. During this frozen time period, the military has a way to NOT be frozen within the frozen time zone and can do whatever they want to the frozen ppl - including killing off the family members of the scientists that developed the time freeze. One of the scientists makes a break for his family before the military snuff guy gets there all I right Lol Cool story

Wow. Acting top notch, that guy blew my mind. He was the personification of abject terror the whole time. Story was mind boggling.
If the main guy had left in the beginning when the 'thing' happened at the lab, and he had, 'choosen' his family instead of staying, he would have gone home then and within days, all of them would have been murdered.
To be able to freeze time is total absolute power. The people at the top would never let others live who could tell.

Could your writers PLEASE include just a little bit more of the context and storyline so that we can ENJOY and UNDERSTAND what is happening to your characters I am really getting tired of wondering what in the world the whole story is about. I mean, what is this one Time travel Why did the family at the beginning have to die What was the deal the two main characters had The production value is top notch, but the storylines are SEVERELY lacking.

Great job! I do agree with those who have said a little more backstory would've been nica, but otherwise the whole piece is excellent.
It's also impressive to see a DUST short with an all-male cast and no WOKE propaganda. Guy's gotta have big balls to pull that off, these days! Way to go, Zachary!

reply

Seeing stuff like this proves to me that Hollywoke is garbage on purpose. There are plenty of creative people who can come up with new movie/show ideas. Not the crap we get nice that is just one race/gender swap of something else over and over.
reply

A lot of these shorts don't give us enough of the story to really draw us in, this one totally does. No time wasted on panoramic visuals, it's tight and concise as it should be. I want more, and I don't even like time travel plots.
reply

Damn, I love time travel films, but would prefer longer. But still great anyway.
Thanks!
Nice twist with the time travel of you only get one long second to be there. Kinda like the blue guys in the box cars.

Huh, the text at 1: 04 is a neat little bit of foreshadowing. I thought it was just going to be lorem ipsem, but it's actually plot relevant (if maybe not actual case law that would realistically go in such a text field lol)
reply

The sense of urgency throughout was well played. However, I found the scenes disjointed and the action too fast to let my brain keep up with the plot. Big question for me regarding eliminating the researchers was. .. why
reply

Perhaps going to another planet
The mission failed in some way
All that where involved had to be eliminated
There are a few dust I don't get
But will keep watching this one for a better understanding

reply

Well. I'd have to say - this was nicely done and well presented.
But it would probably have been a bit better of a presentation - if one could figure out W. T. F. is suppose to be going on and maybe why.

Great short loved the premise. Really solid mystery box and use of story telling on a limited budget. Would love to see this as a Black mirror episode. It gave me 90s era Outer Limit vibes (in the best way.
reply

sorry, totally lost. so little context for what he was actually doing or why the two old people needed to be killed. I was actually enjoying it, but it felt like just the middle of the plot.
reply

Great film! And for people who are putting ignorant comments on here let’s start with YOUR free films so we can critique them. Oh wait, you don’t have any. go away ignorant people
reply

I generally like the Dust programs. But this is the first one I've watched I feel deserving of a longer format to tell its story. An excellent foundation for a movie, or more.
reply

Really good movie! You did something that most short film makers don't, and that is to create a movie with a satisfying ending. Great tension and building of suspense!
reply

The last Dust film I watched was TERRIBLE, I am glad this one turned out great! Just the right amount of info to keep the tension going, picked a good actor. Grats!
reply

Certainly a talking point. I have watched it twice and countless back frames yet I still cannot understand it lol. However great acting, kudos to he makers.
reply

Could have done without all the horrible screechy noises, great story and good execution but a lot of videos lately on dust have been using that kind of noise.
reply

Not sure what the hell I just watched, it was horrible, no backstory, no storyline at all actually, nothing made sense. Waste of time.
reply

I just absolutely love these little movies that explain nothing, give you no context and then in the latest TikTok fashion just end.
reply

Hey all, I'm the writer/director for One Small Step. Looking forward to responding to comments, questions and critiques!
reply

Used to hate this kinda stuff. Too much left to imagine but anymore it's still better than 99% of the that comes out now.
reply

wow this is really good - i watched it twice in a row & very much tried to figure it out - i need more, tho! LOL
reply

This was very, very, good, much more like a TV pilot than any short film I've seen. Fascinating concept
reply

Really excellent acting by both actors. I have no idea what was going on and still really enjoyed it! Awesome!
reply

Love the interesting twist on time travel. Done right, this would make a great movie. Can't wait to see it!
reply

Incredibly Well Done! Kept me on edge the whole time! Thanks for sharing! Wishing everyone the best!
reply

i don't understand, a paranoid spineless delusional guy puts his family at risk, and is the hero very cliche'.
reply

Well done. a very interesting twist on time travel/time displacement. It could definitely be made into a series.
reply

Good acting but didnt have a clue what the hell was going on at all. The most confusing DUST video ever guys
