That actress was painfully beautiful and the 18th time she locked eyes with him I wonder if she was in any way making a wish - the shooting star - the look of fear i her eyes, the lack of a splash and the robot that no longer needed his batteries all tie together into powerful feelings and a mix of internal debate - it seems to be a story of what could have been, but was just out of reach and in the end of that story a new one will begin for both he and her. possibly leading to something better for both
That was possibly the most intense and touching story I have seen this year. dragged my heart all over the place.

He was strikingly good looking and so was she. I must admit I'm not sure what happened at the end Not to worry though, it was a superb film. He played his part very well. I wish the video was a lot longer to give the main characters time to grow into the characters personalities. The cinematography was beautiful. I absolutely loved it. It was a haunting story.

In a nutshell, this is exactly what good and true Science-Fiction is supposed to do: make us think, re-think, and debate. I love when a filmmaker pulls off the let the viewer decide for themself ending. It's not always well done. But here It is simply superb. Beautiful, haunting, hopeful, dismaying, and so much more. A stunning and beautiful film.

Such a beautiful story and movie. If we must shift to reality to discuss things in it, then just as in the U. S, giving prescriptions whithout talk therapy is analogous to giving a patient pain medication for a broken leg, but never setting and casting the leg and then expecting something to get better.

Intriguing. I couldn't stop watching it once it started.
And that actress that played the older Yoshimi. already gorgeous at such a young age.
We can only hope she keeps a level head as she gets older. So many pitfalls from/for being so beautiful.
Kudos to all involved in this project!

I think he was autistic. He couldn't deal with his parents suicide. He saw her 18 times (eye contact) probably mistaking it for love. She was real but never paid any attention to him except in passing. At the end he went to join his parents. He spoke perfectly to doza but never to people.

I figured it out really early that the message would be much more likely to be from his enemies than his side of the war because it made little sense to literally have someone jump off a bridge. Essentially the message was to trap him into his own suicide.

As soon as the movie started I realized I'd seen it before. It didn't stop me from watching it again though. The actors are so beautiful! I love the storyline. This is definitely ranked as one of my top 5 favorite DUST shorts.

Did anyone notice that dress on a clothes hanger at 1: 50 is also the same dress Yoshimi is wearing 7: 08 He is traumatised by his mothers death and maybe that's why he sees Yoshimi with it. Pretty cool detail.

It was obvious that he was imagining everything, and the lights at the end were coming from a S&R boat, but the fact that they only showed Doka left it open for interpretation. I don't like this one bit!

The guy was a complete basket case he was obsessed with her and he wianted to commit suicide with her. I don't understand all the galaxy references. It's simple one guys head trip! That guy was nuts!

Irie mon. I is bettin that the tri-colored lights above the watah in the end is the spaceship coming to take him home mon. Irie. Quite a love story.

After millions upon millions of complaints, you would think they would start creating good short films. NOPE! THESE ARE ALL THE SAME! C’mon man!
reply

Wow. I just got to see this and it was beautifully done. bittersweet, too. :( Love that imagery as well, the girl weaving through his mind like that.
reply

They dressed the bully and his crew as American Highschool Jocks!
I thought that was hilarious. Its a wonder his name wasnt 'Biff'.

reply

So, he's going to commit suicide to get b on this ship Wow! Sounds like the religion group that did something similar back in the 90s!

Captivating narrative, cleverly weaving different realities together.
Quality acting and cinematography, never felt low budget.

reply

You mean that they couldn't pick him up at his house!
Never listen to anyone who tells you to jump off a bridge!

reply

So. in the end. he jumps off and then floats on the water and the fisherman(yoshimi's father. ofcourse) saw him

An unfiltered pov of someone's life, struggling with mental health, and its way too often tragic end.
reply

for those who didn't see the shooting star. its on frame 18. 45. put it on slow speed so you can catch it.
reply

This was cool and all but I feel like it really shouldn’t be classified as a sci-fi film.
reply

Nice to see a Japanese film tackling mental health. It's a huge issue every family deals with
reply

Well damn that was depressing. These things really ought to come with some sort of warning.
reply

Man I was hoping it was real despite what the doctors said. A great tale of 1 screen 2 movies.

This was amazingly good! I can’t stop thinking about what’s suppose to happen next
