10 most challenging rpgs to drive you crazy
video description
BTW Dark Souls could very well be number one for greatest games of all time but they are not the hardest games on the list, I find Darkest Dungeon to be way harder. Fire Emblem fates on the other hand shouldn't really be on this list, it's a great game that can be challenging but it's not that bad. I also think some of the older Elder Scrolls games could qualify, I sure failed to git gud on both Morrowind and Oblivion.

FF12 really? That game literally plays itself, and the difficulty of it was nothing but artificial and convoluted because if we go back to those days, they were selling a guide/slash art book with the game (At about the same price as the game too now, mind you). It was just a cheap strat to boost sales because they spent a lot of money on their back-then engine. And people praised being ripped off by SE because there was no hand holding when their actual goal was to sell their guide? Let me just LOL at this. IMO its straight up the worse main Final Fantasy title and started the trend of FF games being garbage.

DS 2 drove me crazy because of how enemy attack: they can spin and track you as attack goes through so dodging like I used to in DS didn't work, and their attacks are purposefully misleading with unrealistic timing. In DS when an enemy prepares the attack, after a couple of deaths you can figure out how to time the dodge and it makes sense, but in DS 2 their attacks land either half a second later than you'd expect or are just lightning fast for no reason. Felt very unfair and unfun.

Icewind Dale is really hard on Core Rules because you get NO money! At least Baldur's Gate gave you enough money from side quests to get some good loot early on. Icewind Dale feels to me to be the purer and more difficult role-playing adventure version and for that it is incredibly rewarding and enjoyable.

what ruins the traditional RPG experience for me is running into enemies that are too strong for my characters to have developped enough with only the missions so far. I hate having to backtrack in order to farm exp and level up, it shatters the immersion of the story.

I'm always surprised to hear people claim Icewind Dale to be light on story. It really isn't. It's not almost all story like Planescape: Torment, but there's at least as much story and lore present as in Baldur's Gate.

Came here after getting the final achievement for Code Vein (The anime of Dark Souls), so now it's my 6th full game achievement.
(DS 1-3, Bloodsborne, CupHead, and Code Vein)

People may laugh but Earthbound is pretty tough especially a blind run when you don-t grind. FFIV 2d version was challenging too as well as Lunar: Silver Star Story

I was expecting more bashing to FF12 but glad it was praise, It's a favorite of mine and a lot of that is because it felt -free- and not a handholding game lol

Morrowind was an RPG before quest markers and easy fast travel. I think it should have been an honorable mention at least.
