10 Extra Modes In Video Games That Became ICONIC JazzyJ: I feel like this list has a huge missed opportunity for the most iconic extra mode that eventually became a standard mechanic in many games:
Town management in an RPG that originated with Breath of Fire 2 all the way back on the 1994 SNES release.
Fast forward to today, and you have Fallout 4, with town management being literally built into it's core gameplay loop, and games like Pathfinder: Kingmaker where how well you manage your city determines how much content you have access to.
And yet, still to this day, I feel like there's never been a game series that has ever done town management quite like the breath of fire series, where it's more of a sim management than an actual city builder, but as an extra mode of a full length 20+ hour RPG.

(4: 28) Ah yes, that moment when me and my friend played through Tombraider 2, three days or so after it came out, and we get to the final level, and we dispose of all the bad guys, and she is about to take a shower in the comfort of her own house, and we're completely on the edge of our seats and she breaks the fourth wall, shoves that shotgun in our faces, looks at us the players, and says, Haven't you seen enough? and pulls the trigger. That climax far surpassed anything she could have shown us!

I remember having Mortal Kombat Armageddon and two others on the PS2 when I was really young and I remember the first time I discovered mortal kombat cart racing, I remember I ended up playing that more than the actual game because I because I used to suck at the actual game but I was really good at things like Mario Kart so I so I loved the Mortal Kombat cart racing

For me, I'd say it's MGS5's FOB mode. It's not quite competitive, but it still has the hallmarks of infiltrating a facility to kidnap another player's soldiers and obtain resources all while going about it in your own way and even including a bit of PvP if the owner of the base or a friend of the owner decides to come and defend the base.

We seriously need a new burnout game. Paradise was good but the crash mode was removed what they replaced it with was utterly terrible IMHO in that game I almost never used it. Theres no point in bouncing around town in your car like a bouncy ball if you don't have any reason/goals for it. :/

Notice how the sonic franchise went noticeably down the shitter after they took Chao garden out of future games? Lets be real Chao garden was the real game, the amount of replay ability it added was immense and the only reason you would even play/replay a sonic game/level in the first place.

Cod zombies blew me away first time. I bought world at war cuz it was cheaper than Black ops and I didn't know there was a zombie's mode on it. 1st time seeing it really left an impact. Still buying cod and playing them to this day just for zombies mostly lol

literally 90% of why i like COD is because of zombies mode. i could play that mode for the rest of my life, especially with black ops 3's steam version where you can download steam community maps to play and a lot of these are amazing.

There is no universe where zombies is not number one on this list. and I am not even a huge zombies player never was but it has risen to the exact same amount of fame as the game it was an extra on
