10 most controversial game launches of all time
video description
What really disappoints me about Andromeda was the fans and journalists forgetting that it was PART 1 of a new trilogy. I went back and played the original trilogy after Andromeda and Mass Effect 1 was DRY in comparison, and more empty than I remembered it feeling as a kid. (Wrex's Loyalty quest and all the Copy/Paste planet missions are far worse offenders that we look back on with rose-colored glasses. A compelling universe- absolutely- but it relied on the promise of what else the story COULD become, and was finally fleshed out in M. E. 2 & 3. Heck, a bunch of the things we love most weren't even fully realized until Mass Effect 3's DLC. But it took the tiny, bland seeds of introducing everyone in #1 so that they could fly by the end.
I think we all forget to think of M. E. as three separate games, because we can look back at the whole trilogy as 1 single game in our minds instead. But in terms of being the 1st installment, Andromeda actually gave us more fleshed out character development than ME 1 did, & it had a lot of good bones that could have been fleshed out to new heights in the 2nd and 3rd part that we never got (and now never will.
The devs were in an awkward place after writing themselves into a hole they had to start over from, and ANY spin-off of a franchise as loved as M. E. is going to be received with mixed feelings of wanting the old, but it bums me out all the initial hatred created a self-fulfilling prophecy that we would never get to see them redeem themselves.

I still don't think cyberpunk is that great. However, in CDPR's defense, they promised a ps4 version when that console was still new. Trying to get it to run smooth on that antique system years later was an obligation they had to uphold to share holders and also one of the reasons the game was as disappointing as it was. A fair bit had to be reworked or stripped out so the game could run on the ps4.
No Man's Sky on the other hand had a similar issue where it was over hyped and released before it was ready. However, they opted to not only fix it, but keep giving us DLC for free. To the point where I actually feel guilty and wish they would let me give them my money again.
The GTA trilogy is lazy trash put out by a company that had the infrastructure and money to make it as great as it should have been. GTA5 was pretty disappointing as well.
Anthem was originally going to be a really awesome single player game when it was first teased and shown. At some point they pulled a fallout 76 and really changed and just stopped making the game part way through and made it a game as a service multiplayer game.
Speaking on FO76, see above statement. Only they had the nerve to tell us this is what we wanted. And then they wouldn't even let you mod it.

Where Bethesda really screwed up with 76, was how the players had no impact on the world.
Firstly, all human NPCs should have originated from vault 76 like the player characters.
A small number of NPCs should have been hanging around the vault entrance, coordinating exploration and expansion efforts, and issuing non repeatable quests that resulted in a this or that outcome.
Whatever the average result from these quests were, should have been used to influence how the world was being further developed.
Additionally, areas with a high rate of PvP could have been turned into raider strongholds that players could either fight against or join. With the raiders also being from the vault as well.
Areas that were popular to build bases in could have become settlements. With even more NPC vault dwellers running shops and whatnot.
If you give the players a blank canvas of a world, you should allow them to determine how it all turns out in the end.

It's funny you bring up Fallout 76 because YOU got me hooked onto it with your most OP weapons removed from games video.
I'm one of those that loves this game, despite having achieved burnout. They add new things here and there though that brings me back to enjoy my great weapons and camp. I love this fallout specifically because of that. I can delete it and come back whenever with all my achievements preserved. On ps5 it's many times better than Fallout 4

Anyone notice that 90% of the games in this list were released basically within the pat 5 years? I don t think the 2000s were the golden age of gaming like everyone says. I think that the gaming companies saw how much money could be made because of the successes of the 2000s and got greedy. Since then they ve cut corners, skipped important things, and put profits over the art. This is obviously not true for all, but most. Oh to go back to what was.

This is my opinion BF 2042 would've had a better launch if they didn't try to bite off Apex with certain characters with unique abilities I was disappointed there's no story but that should've allowed dice to make the multi-player and if they kept regular soldiers they would've saved further time on however long the operators took just damn how did they botch the launch that bad aside from the gameplay. Also that guy just punched a Xenomorph 14: 16

Anthem wasn't really that bad. It was the fact that after about 6-8 hours of gameplay there was nothing to do and it was supposed to be a game in the style of destiny and the division (live game service) but it was so unfinished. Later on we found out that the development cycle was just so horribly mismanaged that something that could have been really interesting and great came out as a turd.

Cyberpunk 2077, Anthem, and ME Andromeda were games I played entirely and enjoyed. Cyberpunk 2077 I played on PS4 and barely got bugs or glitches as the only major thing that happened were game crashes, If they kept with it I think ME Andromeda would have been great despite the flaws. Overall those games are great to play through at least once.

Ngl star wars battlefield 2 really didn't recover in the Asian servers, each match is empty (if you can even find one after 10 30 minutes of quetime. People just really left the game for good and every came back after all the content plus EA pulling the plug on the game somewhere in 2020 the game just never became what it could be

I'm surprised that Halo Infinite didn't make the list, given how it seems to be a complete break from the Halo universe. Also, I remember the hype for Watchdogs, only to see it get scathing reviews. For me, two of the worst were Destiny, which was a steaming pile, and Doom Eternal which played like a substandard platformer.

As someone who still plays all of the Mass Effect games today. Andromeda wasn't a bad game. I 100% my 1st playthrough and I remembered going in saying to myself and my brother it's a different game with a different perspective trust me if you think about it like that it'll be a much better experience maybe that helped?

Revisting Cyberpunk now as of a few days ago on a new 4080 PC and WOW! Playing on my tv on 4k all settings max even all RT ultra at 120fps. Compared to playing it on release with a 3080 mid/hi settings RT off 1440p. Never had any game breaking bugs in my initial playthrough but they have def optimized it since release.

When they relaunched the FF14 as FF14: A Realm Reborn, they made their past mistake canon and made it a part of the story that the original game was nuked by a god, which left a huge scar to the world known as the 7th Umbral Calamity. You start the game, 5 years after the calamity that ended the original game.

Didn't play BF2424, but I've played damn near all of them for the past decade+ it's a series that doesn't need a campaign, that's not really a knock on a game meant exclusively for squad based mayhem with friends and randos. Star Wars was basically BF1 with different skins and shit support though

Surprised that Shadow of War wasn t on the list. Additionally, given how much I ve heard it s changed since release, I ve been seriously considering playing No Man s Sky (especially since it s on Game Pass) and I think I m going to do it given all the good things I ve heard about it recently.
