Lies of P - Before You Buy I was going to buy Lies of P this month because i assumed Starfield was going be a hot mess at launch. but Bethesda did the impossible (for them at least) and released a finished game, so i got Starfield
and i already pre ordered AC Mirage for next month (not because it's AC, but simply because it is set in my home city so it's just a sentimental purchase)
And also got Cyberpunk 2077 DLC as well
But that leaves Lies of P on the top of my wishlist right now, just need to financially recover and have my fill from the above

So I bought Bloodborne day one, and I still have the receipt in the case. At the time I had no clue who FromSoftware were. Needless to say, BB kicked my ass, and I put the game down cause it was too frustrating for me. Fast forward to 2023, and I finally made time for Bloodborne and The Old Hunters DLC. I became so addicted to it that earned the platinum, and every DLC trophy, and then I went out and bought Dark Souls trilogy, Nioh 1 and 2, Demons Souls remake, Elden Ring, Sekiro and a few others I can't remember the titles of right now lol I am beyond stoked for Lies of P as the overall aesthetic, and combat has me more excited than any other game coming out this year. Loving the Souls-like games now! Quick mention for another difficult game I highly recommend. Returnal. Play it! Easily one of my favorite PS5 games!

I'm happy they succeeded to make something slightly unique and different within the formula. Unfortunately, of all the Souls-like non-From games I've tried, they all fell flat in the end. The best Souls games are simply Souls games, Sekiro, Bloodborne and Elden Ring. They are just far beyond because they have an extremely unique vision with the best artists and creators in the world. Still, it's not fair to compare cream of the crop to this, and Lies of P clearly is an achievement of its own, and perhaps a couple of games in they can refine the formula. Hope they don't end up like Deck 13, though.

So I never really compared this game to blood-borne. I was thinking of steelrising, I thought automaton based souls born game. Although I m a little leery on getting it. This game is very heavy on blocking and I am terrible with blocking. there is a noticeable lag in my response time. I ve made it partway through with the demo. I want to enjoy this game. The only souls born games I ve beaten on steelrising and elden ring.

I've never played a souls game, but the art direction hooked me immediately from the get go. Unfortunately when I hear it's very souls like, and can be very punishing and challenging, I'll just have to take a pass. I love survivor horror games with dark themes, so this is why I felt this could be the one if it was not to difficult. I'll definitely watch a playthrough, but that is all. Playing Spec Ops the Line and the forest atm

I never had it in me to try bloodborne type games - partly bc I dont like the aesthetic, dark creepy stuff that's usually attached to them and partly because I'm really not good and these type of difficult, punishing games, but the aesthetic of this world is really fascinating, I love the haunted robot city vibes. Might boot up the demo and give it a shot. if I ever try a souls-like, I suppose this is the closest to it I'll do.

Man, I tried the demo, really wanted to like this game, but it felt clunky and unresponsive.
The movement, UI, etc, all felt a few generations old to me.
And I sucked at it. Fought my way through Elden Ring, and it was very satisfying. Here, for me, the first mini-boss was insanely hard.
Edit: plus, what's up with the super scary agreement at the beginning? Actually read it, and you might not want to agree.

When lies of p was first announced I knew it was gonna be good. The devs had a really far out idea for a game, but they knew what they wanted and stuck to it to the end. The demo just solidified me being sold on the game. The combat, the animations, the environment, the music, everything was just amazing in only the first 2 sections of the game that the demo lets us play so I knew the game was gonna be awesome

I feel like game reviewers are the only ones that are getting sick of the dark souls formula because I haven't heard anyone complaining about it in real life not saying that gameranx is.
It makes me wonder how would the general public feel if the next elder scrolls went with souls like combat I think I would very much hope it does.

This is literally the first game I have pre-ordered in 15 years. I'm generally against pre-ordering, but money has been tight and I had it at the time so I went ahead and payed for it. I loved the demo and I'm excited to get started already! I'm ready for Lies of P and Lords of the Fallen! They both look like they are going to amazing!

Been playing the demo of this game on my PC and so far I'm impressed. Good to know it gets better in the full game. Definitely going to focus on it once I'm done with Starfield in about 100 years lol Also, am I the only one who thinks Pinnochio kinda looks like Timothee Chalamet? Lol its so weird man

After playing the demo, it reminded me more of Steelrising than Bloodborne. I'm glad to hear it really opens up after that point. I will be playing this game, Alan Wake 2, and The Lords of the Fallen after I beat Star(field of loading screens) and the best game of the decade Baldur's Gate 3.
reply

I'm glad it sounds like it's good! I am interested in the game, for sure. It has that aesthetic I like. I am not a huge fan of Souls-like games (I suck at them really, which is why. Not gonna lie. But, I do want to try this one out. I'm currently playing both Baldur's Gate 3 and Starfield.

It makes me so happy glancing through the comments and seeing so many new players to soulslike games, that sound genuinely excited to try this out! Elden Ring really opened up the floodgates. Now gamers of all types are curious about one of (imho) the greatest styles of modern game design.

If you can beat a game, then you don't suck at it. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I actually disliked the demo; the game's mechanics are too anemic, the combat too repetitive, and the level design was lazy. It needs a LOT of polish and balancing.
But. It was creative as hell!

reply

Its its own thing yes, with the setup and looks very polished, but the with hud, location, enemy moveset and animations, even the dash animation, that's literally Bloodborne. Well, if FromSoft won't give us Bloodborne 2, there is other studios that will try.
reply

I had heard that this game relies on parring and that's not my thing, It's the reason I couldn't really get into Sekiro. Yeah the game looks cool but I'm not gonna enjoying getting beaten because the bat bein used to cave in my face has a nice aesthetic.
reply

Sorry but the main thrill of these kinds of games for me is Coop. Its not that its too difficult. I just have a lot of fun playing this stuff with my best friend. Game looks great but likely going to be a pass for me just because of that one reason.

The thing I love the most about this is even with all the South Korea versus Japan thing being personal to a lot of people on both sides I love that they can take the time to craft such a good love letter to a Japanese property.
reply

I m a little disappointed honestly. I loved Sekiro and was able to progress through that game just fine. Only two bosses made me really pissed the rest I was able to figure out very quickly. This is much more grindy and just not fun
