WARNER BROS RESPONDS TO SUICIDE SQUAD, BIG STAR WARS GAME CANCELED & MORE A part of me REALLY thinks that all these developer lay-offs are from piss-poor management, NOT looking into fanbases for feedback (and actually taking it to heart, following trends like live-service economy cash cow tactics that do NOT have the consumer's best interest sequentially just to provide nothing else of value to the game but useless add-ons with no quality of life support changes that could be initially provided at launch.
Most people may read this and think,
Bro, it's to support the developers. Games are getting expensive
Well no shit because they're MAKING THEM UNNECESSARILY EXPENSIVE
Why do you think games like Palworld, PizzaTower, and LethalCompany are taking precedence in the gaming community's interest
The answer is 'creative freedom' and these AAA game companies give next to none of that.

I cannot buy into the idea that all devs are perfect human beings who don’t deserve to be laid off. These companies have been grossly over employed with zero to show for it. We are lucky if a game comes out and if it does we are even luckier if it’s complete. These companies will have thousands of devs and release an incomplete lack luster game. Yes, more than likely management is bad, but also devs are responsible as well for the state of gaming. I really think there are a lot of devs who lack true talent and develop games because they didn’t want to do anything in life but just enjoy playing video games. I know several.
The lay offs are long overdue. Sorry but not sorry

Honestly, I expected so much more from gaming by 2024. Gaming as a whole just feels so much emptier than it used to. Vent inc:
Couple gems here and there, but like MMOs have all been murdered, by themselves. FPS games are locked into fortnite. and halo/cod etc all lost their way. Halo no multiplayer campaign on release, cod, no short thrilling campaign. Borderlands writing quality is gone, and their loot/games come out too unfinished. Sports games are. sports games AND even they have gotten worse with the gambling, selling same stuff over and over. Silksong! I wish they never announced it lol.

As long as ANY Studio ties their creative endeavours to the Live Service/Games as a Service model, with ALL it's Battle Pass, Season Pass and Microtransactions nonsense, attempting to follow that 'easy money' dragon, the problems within the industry will continue to fester. Not every Studio is capable, ESPECIALLY those Studios that made their name on excellent single player story driven adventures. Oh, to echo another's comment: Funny how it ain't the Management of a Studio, OR Publisher, that are getting the 'notice' but those at the coal face.

I work for a company, and some employees at the company are awful employees. Entitled, milk the clock, lazy, whiny, kiss-assy, avoid hard work, etc. Ultimately I believe it's company leadership that makes the big industrial differences. . BUT, I've been wondering how many of these game companies have these awful employees, and how much THAT is probably effecting the games and the industry. Probably a lot, if you think about it. Boo!

I know that games are made to make money. But it seems that each year, game devs try less and less to bring us actual good content, and instead do everything possible to suck as much cash from us.
I miss the days when games shipped fully made, with little to no bugs, and all the content unlocked. Now we get a half made game with DLC's, bugs, and micro transactions.
Things really need to change in the gaming space.

its so funny watching the big companies fire people (the firing is not funny. its scummy) its like they shout at their studios Arrowhead made helldivers 2 in a cave. with a box of scraps! and so instead of investing they send all their studios into the stone age. I can never understand how one gets to the position of making these decisions when all they know how to do is destroy everything

I’m still playing Suicide Squad well not currently. I’m taking a break until they fix the bugs and/or release season 1.
I’m still living on the game. I support them 100% but they’ve gotta fix the server issue by the start of season 1. Things are looking bleak for the game right now but I’m holding out hope that the game gets a second wind with the DLC.

Called it. Brought this up when Xbox1 and ps4 launched. They were PROJECTING people were WILLING to pay for more while spending too much for their own execs splurging on themselves. just because they thought they'll pay for anything like sports fans and so on. but guess what Animation studios are doing fine because THEY KNEW to temper expectations.

On a gaming market crash, it's thanks to the suits that still don't understand video games. Developers need more power to say NO and fire the higher ups. Their decision making, i. e. games as a service BS, dlc for new game plus, mediocre yearly games ala 2k, crappy game launchers, misleading consumers on content, etc etc etc.

I've kind of accepted that whenever I play Suicide Squad, it'll be a postmortem. I love the Squad and DC Comics in general, and I'm able to compartmentalize enough to look past people's quibbles with the story, but I'm not interested in paying more than $20 for this game and all of the discourse is exhausting.

I'm hella surprised with the Rise of 4 v 1 multiplayer games and Amoung Us that we haven't had one where you're a Terminator trying to Sabotage/Assassinate Resistance Leaders by pretending to be Human.
It makes/made sense currently so I'm sure we will see it in a decade after it becomes irrelevant

I wonder how much the problem with game companies lies with the focus on making massive online games. I wonder also has massive online games have reach the top of the bell curve. We, single players, need more games and I think the companies focus on massive online games has lost focus of this market.

I wish Mr beast was a gamer and would fund some badass projects and companies instead of his live in a grocery store for 10, 000$ a day as cool as that video was. Glad the guy is having fun with his money don’t get me wrong. I just wish someone passionate would privately throw money at games

I cannot believe everyone’s giving a pass to hell drivers 2 runs like complete shit and it is one of the worst running games that I have played. Me and my buddies still can’t even get into games to this day. And when we do it runs like complete dog shit. I’m so confused.

So many if not every other creative industry has gone through this. Talentless ego and greed driven leaders’ destroying careers and lives and somehow people are still shocked as these assholes retire in luxury or even keep their jobs Maybe the French had it right after all.

fallen short of their expectations well. if they listened to EVERYBODY since the first trailer was released years ago and changed direction, maybe it would have been a product people liked You know, give PLAYERS and FANS what they want. Not cater to shareholders' wallets.

Suicide squad biggest mistake was not making it free. It is extremely similar to warframe when it first started coming out (2013) except its traversal being more smooth and better than warframes at release. With similar content updates it would be up there with warframe.

These corporations cant figure out how to run damage control. Just dump every piece of content planned, drop the live service aspect, and try to turn it into a complete game. Then move on to another project.
Who know, maybe people will like the complete package.
