The problem with the proposed European law is that it doesn't try to isolate the problem. If an MMORPG like WOW or FF14 closes their servers as eventually will happen, that's a violation. If a multiplayer game like Fortnite or Minecraft no longer can host servers because almost noone is logging in to join matches anymore, that's a violation. Yes, there is a problem with single player games that unnecessarily require always online and can be shut down. Those can and should be left in a playable state. But the proposed European law isn't that narrow. And don't trust lawmakers to know any distinction, they still think games rot your brain. If the law as proposed is adopted, then MMO and multiplayer games would need to be fully re-developed before going offline, to create, from scratch, some single-player or client-side hosted version, entirely different from how they are designed. That or no one will make them anymore. RIP online multiplayer games.

I wanted to play Alan Wake 2 but i just refuse to download Epic. So i havent played it to this day. I was a huge gamer until the Xbox One released and then i got out of gaming for a decade until my wife bought me a Nintendo Switch. Its funny as I tried Control on the Nintendo Switch and it was one of the few games that worked perfectly with remote play and I beat the game. So when Alan Wake remastered (haha) came out on the Switch I was all over it, even though the port was horrid. Then my wife got me the Legion Go for Christmas and an eGPU and I wanted to play Alan Wake 2, but im not doing another store. At least Steam downloads the game launchers and manages them so its kinda unnoticeable. So I've not bought at least 3 big games because of Epic exclusivity. But ive bought like 60 games on steam since Christmas and Ive been catching up on years worth of missing games!

The only thing with that eu parliament petition is HOW will the law be made, if it is done in a manner that requires publishers who discontinue a game to offer a means for players to continue playing without official support, think offering serverbrowsers or a means for private servers, i don't think much will go wrong aside from some publishers drawing out of the eu as a market. What i am worried abput is that there will be some dumb implication in it that will leave publisjers find the eu top expensive of a market, (never being allowed to discontinue service for a multiplayer game after years of floundring numbers will not help, servers get expensive etc) I personally think that aside from a requirement that private servers become free game and drm bs needs to be removed at time of discontinuation, it can only harm games in europe

Listen, I don't follow everything that happens behind the scenes like you do as it's not my job. so I'm not fully educated on what all was going on with the Last of Us live service game. I don't even know what live service means to Naughty Dog in this instance. BUT I feel compelled to say that Last of Us multiplayer was some of the best multiplayer I've ever played and I'm extremely disappointed to hear they canceled their stand-alone multiplayer game. I may be misinterpreting you, I just think that saying we should have our developers that are good at making normal games, make normal games is disheartening if it's referring to them not dabbling in a multiplayer-only game using their Last of Us system as it was better than most multiplayer games that come out these days.

No acting in video games Dinklebots monotonous dialogue from destiny perhaps.
I've bought 2 exclusives from epic, hades by impulse and satisfactory thanks to pandemic lockdown. The only other purchases have been ubi titles that give a code for uplay. Technically fortnite save the world should be on that list but it vanished and epic support is awful. Recently the launcher was barring access because of swapping from a 2fa email over to captcha which was a broken loop, after an email exchange with one support person the case was taken over by someone else who closed it. Thats reason enough to avoid putting money into the pockets of sweeney regardless of how many freebies he's thrown at me.

My favorite analogy for game development is to compare it to cinematography: The porn industry makes money hand and fist over legitimate theater every year. And yet we don't put porn on Broadway or in major cinemas.
The video game industry has not figured this out, however. Pandering to the lowest common denominator for the sake of profits is inherently destructive. Deliberately trying to reduce cost and maximize price by dumbing down the artistic process will DESTROY the artistic process! Until we start treating video games like an art form no different from cinematography, we will keep getting worse and worse games with more and more predatory practices.

The petition is ridiculous and would just waste taxpayer money to litigate as it would just generate a pointless nuisance suit. You can never force a company to give up the rights to something they own because you decided to purchase a license to the content just like literally every single other license for software you have from your operating system to your phone apps. You don't own the content. You NEVER owned the content. This has been true for the entire history of gaming. The fact that people have ignored this to the point where they are thinking that this is a new issue or getting out of hand is just nuts to me.

All products are consumables. If the law for streaming games was a guaranteed number of hours or something along those lines it would be more reasonable bc otherwise what happens in 20 or 50 or 100 years when a physical copy would have become unplayable due to the breakdown of its plastics and various other components Is the provider expected to keep the streaming service running ad infinium This would guarantee that the longer a company is around and the more titles they release, the larger the cost will be for them to keep these streaming services going as time goes on. Just sayin

I definitely like the first one having a license to keep the game and actually having them keep updating the game so the game stays in great working condition it’s not a bug glitch ridden mess to the point where you can’t play a game you can’t get a platinum trophy because the game is so broken at the moment I have at least four games off the top of my head that are broken in my library of games that I have trouble playing because there’s so broken and I can’t platinum them anymore and I’m hoping they’ll go back and fix them I’m hoping this new law will do that

Epix exclusivity deals don't usually bother me. Yeah, it's annoying. I can't play the game right away but I waited a year for outer worlds to come to steam and then I waited another year to play it. I also waited a year for Metro Exodus. I was convinced Ghost of tsushima was coming to PC eventually I was correct. I waited 4 years. That's fine. I wasn't going to buy a PlayStation 5. What I figured it'd come to PC eventually. I have 500 other games I can play. Apparently Alan Wake 2 is never coming to steam though. So I might have to get it eventually.

Black Myth being successful really needs to be taken with a large pinch of salt. It's status as the first domestic AAA video game in China meant that it tapped into a deep well of nationalism. I saw people who don't play video games say they were going to buy just to support the game. No idea if they were going to play it. They just wanted to buy it and help make it a success. On its own merit, it's an okay game. Probably the lower end of okay. It runs head first into a lot of playability issues that are already solved issues.

Meh what's with the blurring in that cyberpunk mod Dynamic resolution or something, does not look all that impressive or worth it tbh. Plenty of other free mods that will provide good graphics that may or may not to better to be fair but will be more stable than that one that clearly is not. Prolly just some dude who think he can charge money for using the latest tech that anyone else can use just as easily or something I bet. There are good mods out there worth charging for and this aint it buddy

Not gonna lie. The Epic free games do makes me use the Epic Store. I bought games and DLC's and expasion of games they gave away as free. Also their prices are lower sometimes so i just hope around it.
I got so many games on the Epic. I never open it or use only went i want to reply something i got on that account like the batman games, control and so many others.
My favorite store is GoG, but Steam is far more useful. Epic is like my #2

Okay confession time: I've been getting the Epic's free games thing every week almost religiously, even the crap free skins/premium stuff packs, but I haven't even once, not once, ever downloading the Epic Launcher to play any of them. I downloaded the Epic launcher exactly once, just to check how many free games in my library(because you can't check them on the store, you gotta download the app. But I deleted it soon after.

Never forget Jason sheirer knew about what was going on at blizzard and instead of reporting on it and possibly helping victims of SA and harassment he decided to bury it until he could write a book about it and not release it until years later when someone else broke the story so he could maximize book sales. He chose to profit off of pain and that makes him complicit.

I agree with #1. The live service games are a problem and they need to have an offline backup to install when they decide to quit the game. I'm sure it will be reworked to be a little more fair to online only games, mmos, and that sort. Like a disclaimer on it that they have to make the person aware that it will only be online for up to 5 years or something.

The only games I’ve played on Epic are the free games and the F2P games they have exclusive rights to. IE: Wuthering Waves, Genshin, Honkai, etc. It’s the same with GOG, with the exception of fallout London I actually bought their version of fallout 4 just to play it. Otherwise, it’s Steam for everything. I’m sure I’m not the only one. Lol.

The thing about the potential EU law is, I can see it happening
Old people in charge don't understand video games (they've made that clear, but it is simple enough that they can see You buy it, you should be able to use it and understand that
Unless of course companies lobby against it. (which is also, unfortunately, likely)

Ok I think Falcon, or should I say (FAIcon) is AI in this clip. First I noticed his voice was different. Others say the same in the comments.
After he butched the last name of Jason Schreier, when he use to get it right, I was convinced.
Add that in one of the news he was pretty in favour of AI so there’s that
