I've played Unbound since launch day. There's a lot of important information left out of this video. Single-player and Multi-player are 2 entirely different games. The only connection between the 2 is that certain special cars you unlock in Single-player are given to your online account for free, and the vehicles added to the game through the Volume updates can be found in Single-player. That's it. That's the only overlap.
Now for the really important stuff. Criterion didn't WANT to use the battlepass system. That HAD to. EA would not give them enough funding to support post-launch Online support. That's the only reason we have car packs and battlepasses. That's it. For once it's not your typical EA forced monetization. It's necessary to keep the game running and I would happily buy all of the volumes again if it meant we got more support like this.
It's severely understated here how much this game improved. Online at launch was so bland and boring. You had race and drift events. That's it. That's literally it, unless you didn't complete all your activities and collectibles in single-player, you could do those in Online. What do we have now
2 different types of drift: Classic and Pro
Hot Pursuit style races
Endurance races
Drag races
PVP lobby menu if you just want to do events.
Dozens of new cars and tons of new customization options for every car
New player models
Even new clothes for a bit
Lastly, we now have Lockdown
This game wouldn't even be worth looking at again if Criterion didn't go out if their way to care this time. Next time you do a 2-year check-in on a game, don't just re-review the story mode and glimpse at the new mode. Actually take the time to learn how much this game has changed.
Ps. That annoying guy in Lockdown, Racer X, yeah that's Razor. THE Razor, same voice actor, from Most Wanted 2005. Put some respect on his name. Just like the Underground and Hot Pursuit updates, these are love-letters to past games.
Edit: I forgot to add Link-ups to that list. The fact that I forgot to add a feature to the list about a NEED FOR SPEED game should tell you that this is nowhere NEAR the same game it was 2 years ago.

Ive played Most Wanted 2005, Payback & Heat, and I'll be very honest - latest series feels awkward in terms of physics and certain mechanics:
1. Physics - if you take NFS MW and try to steer - vehicles steers as you'd expect regardless of their power, however if you take Payback/Heat/Unbound. If you try to steer - your vehicle starts to act like a rubberband, as if steering is not gradual, but harsh and instantaneous, and it gets drastically worse with more powerful units, up to the point where you literally can flip your car by just wobbling it left and right.
2. Minimap & maps in general - same thing as with physics, take NFS MW and the map is straight as nails - you have your indicator colored one way, opponents in the other and cops in third, and roads are very clear to your eye, no weird effects whatsoever. And you have last three series with minimaps that look like a neon sign over a strip club or something, like sure its well detailed, but when you are going 240 miles - you have literally half a second to recognize your next turn, and sharp colors on sharp edges does not help with that.
3. Cops - It will be a bit unfair to say that NFS Most Wanted's cops are the best ones here given that MW is oriented around cop desintegration but. Taking NFS Heat for raw comparison - its insane to say the least, because whenever you drive at high speeds and youre in chase - theres a chance (yes, its not even predictable) that a cop spawns ahead of you while FACING you at high speeds, and if youre unlucky with their paths - just one spawn can ruin your race, and you cant even restart it, and even if you were to restart the race - any damage that you chew - will remain intact.
4. Damage - realism is cool and all, but heres a problem. You can hit a traffic head-on and manage to survive with just a slight scratch, but if you even slightly touch same traffic with your sides (not even being T-boned) - you can loose up to half of your health.

Tbh it only misses the tuning shop and car dealer on the map, the rest is very very inspired by other nfs games. For me its a good game and im happy its the nfs with the most cars and it still has tuning. And I'm glad I could Support them with a battlepass since i got that game for like 5 bucks xD I would hate if someone just gave me some pennys for my work. So yeah in this case I was happy i could support them. Also they had the ultimate collection released some weeks ago where you can get anything from the game for just some bucks incase you missed it. I wish the combine the SP and MP someday because if the servers shutting down, the game will be very boring without all the stuff that you earned online.

I have about 100 hours on this game, what I've learned from it is, that I really don't like the way Criterion does physics and handling. On highway races, there was a ridiculous amount of pop in for me (PS5) which caused way too many unavoidable crashes - especially getting into or out of tunnels. The AI seemed to never make mistakes in these races which means that a single mistake would require a restart, which I feel is not apropriate for an arcady game. The AI cars also seemed unaffected by terrain handling penalties, such as driving on grass, or rails or things of that nature, which made it all the more frustrating.

Unbound is the only NFS I did not complete the story. The comic effects are not at all my style, but I could have ignored it if not by the terrible inconsistent handling of the car, where in one turn turns on a dime and in the next it behaves like a cargo ship. That still would have only made ot a bad NFS. But the worst part with difference is the story and the characters, both are simply cringe. Even though if the tunning of the car was good I will have mute the voices and just play it for that, but it is so much reduced from previous games.
Please just remaster U2

Huge NFS fan. Waiting on a good racing game because I hate forza. I dont like them giving us 200 cars. I liked the old games where you had to pick a car and stick with it, making you choose between getting a better car or getting better parts for the car you have
Unbound didn't do it for me. I liked Heat when it came out, but I got sick of it quickly.
Games have gotten a lot worse as their goals have shifted from making a solid story to making a game that lives forever

No Jake no. What you want is Midnight Club 2; a la racing game extraordinaire circa 2003 Playstation 2. You can go back and play that game right now and it's great. Yes the graphics aren't amazing, yes there aren't any upgrades to the cars, but the whole game still holds water to anyone from any generation still today. Games lost that. This game doesn't have that. Let's all admit that and fight for games to go back to that!

I hope to live to see the day developers figure out that story and dialogue are unnecessary for these types of games and either dispense with it entirely or give us the option to turn it off in the Accessibility settings (should be there instead of the Sound menu because it's often so grating it becomes more of a hazard to your mental health than anything.

Is NFS becoming Mario-Cart How can you not play a racing game like this in cockpit view Regardless of whether it's a simulation or arcade. the immersion is much better and let the players decide what they prefer instead of categorically removing the CP view completely. It's a shame, I would have liked to buy it, but I'm not interested in Mario-Kart

The biggest gripe i have about this game is the forced day and night. I get it, it is part of the gamble but sometimes, i just wanna change cars and upgrade before a race. Also, in B TIER races, the cars just feel slower that in normal free roam mode which i find it weird. Other than that, its a nice game.

Arcade Racing game, but it's NOT a Casual. This is a Hardcore Arcade. You have to prepare your mind.
btw, Vol. 9 update is very interesting. It's a good time to buy now while it's on sale. (-93% sale now)
Personally, now that the Unbound update is out, I hope they make the next NFS like HEAT2.

Has the car volume been fixed yet I bought the game and okayed it for an hour or two, but the lack of engine sound of your own car made me deinstall it again. I want roaring engines, no music or cringy dialogue. Probably unbelievable for most players, but an absolute dealbreaker for me.

well they should change the name of the game to Speed For Rydells cause the word Rydell is said more then 10000x times in the main story, rydell this rydell that non stop rydell what about rydell. smh speak about car or cops or speed but nooooo its all about rydell.
reply

I know you can disable them, but the artsy/cartoony visuals still don't do it for me at all. I may give the game another whirl. I agree with those who are asking for the classic NFS: U games to be remade/remastered. They were the peak NFS games in my opinion.

Really been loving Kaizen approach. Vol. 9 has been the biggest fun. Love the Blacklist cars, love the mw 2012 find it, take it and have it system. And good ol' Racer X ( Razor) just was the top notch. Its a whole now. Hope we get to see this more in the future.

I tried NFS Heat a few years ago and really didn't enjoy it. The fact you would loss all your money to the cop was the biggest turn off to me. I wish you could just bank it when you got to home garage. This seems a lot of the same just with a few different cars.
reply

dumbest nfs game of all time with these cartoonish things added to a racing game. Instead of making it more realistic to have options on the market. They gained children who find this cool and lost all the people who are into cars that are over 23-24-25

The game sucks I’ve played all of the nfs games and this one made me lose interest within 30 mins. I absolutely hate the cartoony tire smoke and comic books esk stuff flying off the car. Even turning it to black didn’t help. Avoid this game I’d say

I'm a fan of Need for Speed and play most of them. Somehow, I missed this one. However, I usually wait for the price to come down anyway because it's usually within a few months of being released, and I don't like paying full price for EA games.

I dont understand why they update Unbound, when it was so badly reviewed. Im not gonna buy it. The arcade style is a big nope for me. I rather play Heat. Bring out Heat 2 or Remastered Most Wanted! Its so easy. I wouldnt even wait for sale.
