i dont usually hate on tutorials. but really? If you are going to promote your film you should at least pick effects you did properly, the roto scoping was sloppy and the second track was unusable. Water is hard to track, thats why you plan your shot to include something like clouds to track. this is teaching bad habits and poor planning. However it sounds like you did put some effort into proper audio recording. I think more tutorials on audio recording in the field as well as ADR are needed.

I think Indy Mogul have gone down a different road then the one BFX led to, so if Indy Mogul will continue making videos dedicated to learn the viewer more about the basics of filming - like there are doing now - we will never see a show that is somehow alike BFX.
But I think Indy Mogul has made a perfect move to make videos more about basic videomaking and more inspiring videos like The Awesome Director Project. BFX was more or less an entertainment show.

In a high contrast shot like the pillars scene, I would have set up a track matte for Particular to move behind. I'm not a big fan of the rotobrush. I guess I need to learn more about it but I always need lots of time to adjust the selection through the timeline. Trackmattes are so easy to set up and don't need animating because you use the footage itself to trigger transparency.

i liked it however, i saw a continuity error when showing the six planets you could see the strings holding one of them up. i liked the camera work and i though it had good shot verity. i would of like to see more matched action though. overall i liked it though not bad for a 17 minute video

I am looking for a (cheap) entry-level dSLR that takes great video and great pictures. I have looked at the Canon Rebel T3i and the Sony Alpha a57. Do you have any advice. I really want it to look professional.

FYI you can get all of Adobe products in their new Creative Cloud for just $50 a month. Now is probable the best time to get After Effects and Premier if you haven't pirated them already.

For the beach scene, you can use Mocha AE which comes with After Effects! It tracks textures, so works well with moving scenery or motion blur!

why didn't you (Oliver Mellan) just track the scene, then parent a mask of the pillars to the track? would have been faster.
