The Ive been using a Flowmotion V2 GH2 for about a year now. Its a VERY stable hack (not a single freeze yet) and the bitrate increase is very nice. but. if you wanna get SERIOUS, your going to want to go long GOP Driftwood Apocalypse Now or something similar to get you there. most likely what they used in Upstream Color)
Theres a TON of information from TheDrewNetwork in a series called Hacked GH2
Pretty amazing little camera hacked or not though. nice choice guys! ;D

Hey guys, for the Canon users out there. I have a T4i that I hacked with MagicLantern for 3 main features, an intervalometer, zebra stripes and to have more ISO options. Before I had to choose between an ISO of 400 or 800, yesterday I was shooting at 640 on MagicLantern and got a great result. Another neat feature is HDR video, where I don't normally need it I like having the option available. I was apprehensive about doing it but am glad I did.

That video is what sold me on the GH2 altogether. And to think he shot all of that with the kit lens.
I've actually had trouble finding the 176 mbps driftwood hack online, though. I've been shooting with one that's 132 and I'm curious about that hack. Do you happen to have the link handy? How long does it take for you to fill up a 64gb memory card? My hack fills up 64gb after 1 hr and 3 minutes at 132mbps

Does anyone know why all these phone companies decide to go so wide with these small cameras on the phones? I mean I get it. if it's tight you can get a shot of a mountain. But if you have kids, and film them. they could be 2 feet in front of you and look 80 feet away. I've had more videos ruined with my phone camera because I filmed something too far away, than thinking about man, I wish this was wider.

I have a junky little Canon PS Elph 500hs. But it works for what I do. The issue I have is the best web connection is half a MB. So I only use 640p. One thing I wish I could figure out though. Is if I could put the viewfinder on the computer monitor. I have had to re shoot so much content for things that are not in the shot. Nice video and I really want to upgrade but I already spent to much.

I am only using the latest stable build for the T4i. I don't know how stable the nightly builds are hence not using them. So my advice to anyone looking to use ML is to go with the latest compatible stable build and follow the instructions exactly, read the instructions before you start and if you have any questions about the install consult the manuals or hit the ML forums before you start.

Hey Griffin, here's a little OT question if you don't mind. I'm planning to get the GH3 + panny 20mm as I am going to start shooting some wedding films. I'm planning to use it on a steadicam and probably have another camcorder at the rear end of the venue just like you're doing. Is the gh3 + 20mm enough for what I'm trying to accomplish? Thanks in advance for the feedback!

I have a GH2 and have hacked it with the Flowmotion. I filmed a family reunion event without the hack to allow for more memory. While color grading I did notice a big difference in sharpness and the amount of noise that appears when pushing the colors. The hack allows the footage to be taken a lot further in color.

That's right Clint, except the Rebel range out of the box only has 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600, etc with the ISO doubling in each step. ML provides these better and lower noise ISO levels that are lacking from the stock firmware on the Rebel range hence it being a big reason why I decided to install ML.

A fair few people keep hold of it for several reasons. One being that in the future, when they have more experience, they may go back and re-cut the film and use some of the unused footage. Or it can be blooper/outtake material to engage the audience. Sometimes it's almost sentimental.

I've used Flowmotion v2 on my GH2 for a long time & love it. It's probably the best hack for noobs. You'll need a fast memory card if u want spanning clips.
Griffin, I just bought a GoPro myself! Hero 3 Black edition. What video setting did you shoot with? Using the Protune mode?

Are you joking Lukas? ;) It has some great features, like the 120fps at 720p, although that could easily be seen as a gimmick, however, if I was going to get a new phone (and had the funds, I would probably get that over the GoPro Hero 3 or 4 just due to the convenience of it.

Iv'e been debating on buying a gh3 to supplement my Canon 60D but im hesitant since all my lenses are Canon APS-C type lenses. Any idea if these lenses will still work and work well with the GH3? i. e. comparable quality, use of electronic aperture autofocus (For pictures.

OMG. NEVER put wax paper over lights. the wax melts and the paper becomes a huge candle. fire hazard extraordinaire!
Use PARCHMENT PAPER. it is similar to wax paper, but coated with silicone and resists high heat (500 degrees plus) with no problems.

Yeah it can be useful for that, although sometimes I have found that it stops on it's own accord and I'm not sure why. Possibly just a glitch. But it'll usually do that within the first few seconds and not after a long period (unless the card runs out.

True, I have discovered best to just roll and roll on some things, but have not hit the limit yet! I imagine on an unattended B camera for example it would be very useful.
Will install ML soon, I would like to have all those features.
Thanks.

If you're filming a wedding or an unscripted event (birthday, bar mitzvah, etc) sometimes you find yourself filming for a while, waiting for that moment which appears to be coming but then gets delayed over and over. That's when it become useful: )

Please make a video comparison of hacked vs unhacked footage _in post_. I'd like to see how much you can push it when it has a better bitrate. The image as it is doesn't seem to justify the hack. I saw many GH2 tests and no one did it.
