Marking SIXTEEN years of LGR existing! Thinking back on how it's been, how it's been going, and how I hope it might go in the future. Especially the last part cuz things are changing for the better, I hope! Also some home rebuild updates 8 months after the hurricane. Finishing up.
Something to consider for future thrifting, especially from Goodwill, would be to look into their online store and outlet stores.
I recently started working at a new Goodwill that opened in my area, and much of what you search for is no longer being put on store shelves.
CRT tvs and monitors are no longer being accepted as donations.
Anything with any type of data storage device, ssd/hdd/etc, all sent to e-commerce to be wiped and sold at online auction.
I have managed to convince my district manager to allow me to keep some things at store level based upon my knowledge, Trinitron CRTs as example and to at least allow me to take a few minutes to research other retro tech for potential market instead of immediately sending it away.
Hopefully your local Goodwill company has some guys like me in their stores who will try to keep the collectors invested in thrifting instead of just average joes and resellers.

I appreciate the thought of not having sponsors, I can give you my 2 cents here: I won’t worry too much about the sponsors idea as long as you keep it clean and you stay loyal to your principles, which is really hard to do and I will understand if you will need to compromise sometimes. If you are clean about the sponsors I don’t think anyone can tell you anything. If you can travel to Europe it would be great and I will be happy to come along if you visit London in UK. We have Bletchley Park here, the super secret facility where Alan Turing decided the Nazi Enigma machine and you could pop in a visit in Scandinavia to appreciate the ruins of Nokia after M$ demolished it, plus you will be able to really know what having a Nokia 3330 meant as everyone had one here. Good luck with everything, it is hard but you are doing great!

I've been watching ever since 2013. The first video I saw was the Bernoulli Box Oddware. I have no idea how I found it back then or if it just appeared on my homepage. Then I saw you did reviews on old DOS games I remember back when I was young. Ever since then I've been enjoying your videos. To this day I still love watching those Last Half of Darkness videos you did with PushingUpRoses!
I rarely comment, but I'm glad you are doing well and stable after that hurricane incident.
I just want to say thank you for your content, it has been a treat to watch. I love the Sims videos and the Duke Nukem voice you do sometimes!
Best of luck to you and the future of LGR!

You gotta do what you gotta do to survive, brother. I have been in the wringer myself for the last couple years and it's been a slog to get through it and find purpose and direction again--to feel that my life even has meaning. But talking to a good therapist, proper medication, and a change in thinking has been helpful and solidified direction and meaning for me.
All that thinking is good and just be sure you're talking to wise people who can help with what you're considering, because these events can be transformative if properly evaluated. It sounds like you are going in the right direction, and that's all a person needs.

Thank you so much Clint for doing what you do. I admit that LGR videos were a source of light for me during a very dark, sad, harrowing time in my life in 2022 (my dad's health worsening and subsequent passing. You and Michael MJD were my safe space, my comfort viewing, two of the content creators (man I dislike that term) that helped me stand up straight when I could've crumbled. For that I will be forever grateful. Here's to many more years of LGR, as long as you feel comfortable and happy doing it. We'll be here to stand beside you every step of the way!

It's really great that things are going well and you're getting to do things that you may not have been able to in the past. It's really relatable to me as, in the past few months, I was laid off from a job I had for almost 20 years and, surprisingly, it didn't feel bad. I've actually felt like it's an opportunity to do new things and see what's out there. It sounds like you are at that place too and I hope it's enjoyable to you. If nothing else, if you're at VCF midwest again, I hope to meet and talk with you again! Good luck in the upcoming year!

The idea of shaping your reality is a powerful one - and I'm glad you're working on doing that. You have always had great videos, I've always seen happy comments from those that have interacted with you, and as one who loves to travel, I think you'll enjoy it a lot! :) Here's to hoping things get finished close to schedule, and to the next chapter of your life. Also, I hear ya on the trees. I had to have some removed from my Mom's place. and it was $8k for a lot less work lol.

16 out of my 32 years. Thanks for all of the amazing content, you made so many shitey days so much better. All my favorite kinds of content. Fell asleep to a lot of your videos too to be honest. Not because I was bored but because your voice has become so trusted and soothing to listen to. LG-ASMR lol. What happened last year was literally one of my biggest fears. I'm so glad you're (at least somewhat) okay yourself. Thanks for everything and I'll always be happy to tune in

Clint, you are amazing man. You have gotten me through rough times as well, I am going through a similiar process, I run a media company and made the decision to move my studio back into my home to relieve some of the financial pressure and it has been good for me. Do whatever you need to do to be happy man, you deserve it! Especially aftwr a fricken hurricane. Looking forward to videos about the new LGR space and TRAVEL VIDEOS! keep on keeping on man!

You and Jared over at The Questionable Garage both do something that I deeply appreciate: you only take sponsorships from companies you actively do business with, and for products you actually use yourself. That last bit is the important thing, and as long as that stays how you do sponsorships (as you have no problems with transparency, which I also deeply respect, I imagine we'll take whatever ads you throw at us with grace.

LGR, this is your opportunity to make an actual business. You know this inside out. It seems to me, between goodwill hunting to visiting PC dumpsters and warehouses, you have the opportunity to build something new. With all you know now, what you could build and share with us would be incredible, especially since you could focus on specific things. I dunno, would be cool

Brother I can only imagine how rough this time since the hurricane has been to you. I just wanted you to know that you are so much more than the retro computing items you have acquired over the years.
Whenever I spot a beige electronic I automatically think of you. To me, you are retro computing. Loved your content for the last decade and will continue to.

I'm in for another 16! Even if you go on to do something else, I'd follow. I'm here for the very specific nerd enjoyment vibe. Do what you need to do to recover and prosper. Yeah, the events that help you focus your priorities. In the words of Adam Savage not inconsequential. If you quit today, I'd have nothing but fond memories.

Still love the content and I dont see that changing anytime soon. Regarding your current space: Existential reckoning is a very normal thing for us to experience at some point in our lives, especially after major events. The period of reflection thereafter is tough, but it will result in a stronger you. You got this man!

I'm not even a retro computer enthusiast but you pop on my feed sometimes and I watch a video here and there. You're a great presenter. Honest, down to earth energy, unpretentious, and you explain things clearly and interestingly both to layman and I presume a hobbyist too. Very happy you're making a living out of this!

You are a legend Clint. Over those 16 years not only have you influenced many, myself included, but the way you have bounced back from the hurricane is inspiring. Best of luck and here's to the next 16. Hoping one day we will meet up at a convention in the near future. My best to you as always - Dimitris

I can relate with the feeling of unplanned events putting a wrench in your life and putting you in a mind set of not really being sure of what to do next, revisiting life choices, etc.
Thanks for sharing, and good luck for the future, feel free to visit Norway, quite a few retro enthusiast around here as well!

Clint, I hadn't watched much in the last 3 years due to life changes of my own, but I like what you do and I'm glad you do it. I kept my Patreon sub this entire time because you deserve the success you've earned and it's a pleasure to be part of that. Do whatever you need to do to thrive, not just subsist!
reply

I think the fact you focus on your hobby is why your content is so popular. It's refreshing to see someone simply talking about the things they enjoy, instead of rage baiting or getting involved in petty drama. As long as that never changes I'm happy to stick around whatever you decide to do.

You're a great guy Clint! I think I stand with all the viewers when I say we genuinely want to see the absolute best for you. In case you need to hear this, You got this, you can do anything you set your mind to and we are extremely lucky and ecstatic to get to come along for the ride
