Any game sounds dull when you boil it down to the essentials. If you play the game in a dull way then of course it's going to be tedious - The joy of Carmageddon comes from what crazy things happen during a race. The majority of players aren't going to bonk a driver over and over until they win like a robot, they're more likely to ram someone then ramp over a hill and splatter a herd of cows. Most of the fun for me comes from pulling off insane stunts, the physics are still rewarding even today.

Mowing down pedestrians is, well, pedestrian. The cars have no guns so (as you demonstrated) killing your opponents involves reversing and driving forward and repeat. If you're lucky you can attempt to turn your cow of a car to hit someone but you'll probably have to wait again to get up speed. Often though you're just bumping around in a corner. You don't explore, you're too busy reversing and going forward over barrels. Sorry Clint, new & innovate at the time perhaps but tediously dull today

I have possibly a solution to my own answer. As you say, it is a British developer but obviously this version of the game is American retail, of which words are therefore translated, but the Armour spelling could be just an image, and this CBA changing the image for the translation, just as Psygnosis couldn't be arse to changed even the spellings from British in the manuals for particular games in international releases. However, I think my British retail of Carma uses american spelling lol.

If you think -this- is dull, I'd hate to hear your thoughts on bland, regular racing or demo derby games! If you can't see the fun in mowing down pedestrians, killing off your opponents, getting ridiculous power-ups, playing with the physics and damage engine, and roaming around over-the-top, open environments without a care in the world, all while being bombarded with bizarre and twisted humor, then I don't know what to tell you. That stuff's pure bliss to me.

Got the first game on Android the other day for free. I'd never really played it before as I didn't have a PC at the time. Played 2 quite bit about 6 years ago. Found myself enjoying the Android version last night. The atmosphere in 1 is better than 2, it is more raw and anarchic. Hopefully the new game will feel more like 1 than 2. For me the second game's main drawback is the polygon pedestrians lack personality compared to the sprites.

i fully agree with that. 1 & 2 are unique! and also it's sad, you have to drive over zombies because of the censure.

Carmageddon has to be one of mankind's greatest achievements. The game physics still hold up surprisingly well even today and its more addictive then meth, cocaine and taco's all put together! I'm really excited about the new game coming out, if its even half as good as the first I'm all up in that. Thanks for posting this video, even watching someone play this is crazy fun. Also I agree, TRD2000 was garbage.

I've played it on my Galaxy Note quite a bit.
It's a really well made port, the touch controls don't bother me like I thought they would.
Technically speaking it's better than the PC game thanks to modern processing, it feels smooth and looks great.
Carmageddon has a lot of character compared to the later games, it's the best in my opinion.

Ahhhh the memories, anyone else have the glitch where the colour on the changed to green, pink and black? Literally all of the graphics lol Not sure if it was some kind of driver conflict but it would happen periodically, it was pre-internet for me so there was no chance of me downloading a patch lol V V odd but kind of cool at the same time.

I prefer C1, C2's pedestrians were so low poly it took most of the fun out of hitting them, even though they exploded into giblets. There's a Glide3D patch available for Carmageddon 1, if you use a Glide enabled version of DOSbox together with a Glide wrapper (I recommend Configurator) you can enjoy Carmageddon in high resolution with smooth textures.
