The Slender Man story is actually quite interesting (I'm somewhat into the -supernatural- stories just for fun as well as reading SCPs. This game doesn't do it justice though, I'm sorry. Also, I'm so happy you didn't overreact, this game is pretty lame, err, tame, eh, same thing for horror games. I also preferred Penumbra over Amnesia: DD, I haven't played A: MfP, but I'm not a huge fan of the -no inventory- thing that thechineseroom does and I feel that it may detract from the game. Well, now to wait very impatiently for SOMA, it looks freaking awesome. Still, I want Frictional to make sure it's solid and ready to be released, no rushing, stay good, and we'll all love you.

I'm going to guess that it's based loosely on shadow people. Fiigures of people that are entirely black with no features. Though I have heard of people seeing the same figures in white light in pitch black rooms. You start seeing shapes of people when you stay up 2-3 days. Mostly meth heads see them, but it's not restricted to meth or psychosis from it by any means. Your brain just starts looking for faces/people in places. Ever look at a floor tile or wall texture and see a face? Similar thing. I see Duke Nukem on my floor tiles, for example. Though odd that shadow people are in 2 distinct forms every time for everyone. Either hat man or hood man.

He probably exaggerates a lot for comedic value but. so what?
Personally I don't think he exaggerated at all in his first impressions with Slender. If I'm not mistaken he was one of the first people to play it and upload footage of it, which is a big reason why it gained such a ridiculously popular following, and a reason why it's understandable what he would have shit bricks while playing it.
Like many popular things, including he himself, people love to hate Slender because other people do.

I bet 90% of people who said in the comments it's lame and not scary, got scared after they played it. If you can submerge in the game, really feel the pressence of something in the dark, and you have to get away from it, then you are really got into Slender, and then it's a fun, and scary experiment on your brain. If you doesn't even bother to get into it, then it's just a -lame- game which has no purpose. That's why i love it, and that's why i never completed it. Got scared. :)

What backstory? The Slender Man being a made up piece of US lore started on some website little more than a year ago? Now the Tall Man is the scary one. Tall Man resides in the Black Forest in Germany, devouring children and livestock. It is said that he was once a regular man that went insane trying to find his way out of the forest. He spent so much time there that he became long and spindly like a tree, but the hunger of a beast.

sigh
you completely missed it you are playing it wrong
try sitting down with it and actually try playing it for real. The horror aspect really hits you the farther in you get.
the reason why your character is so slow/weak is because you are playing a little girl lost in the woods. Your flashlight is slowly dying too if you didn't notice.
The difficulty ramps up the more pages you find and or more time you waste.

For some silly reason slenderman shown himself at a pretty long distance and it did not play the sound, which really invokes -ok, he is bad, I need to get away from him-. Also LGR played this in a weird way, treading back and forth losing his sence of direction multiple times, instead of actually exploring, which made him lose a lot of stuff and made his experience more boring than it should have been.

Finally I watch a slender vid with a real life reaction, I walked towards him to like oooww what's this then. To be fair though I did grow up in a poorly made 3D forest with my 7 ft uncle following me around while I looked for pieces toilet paper my brother had written on with his own shit so I felt right at home, there was less rape in this though which in truth I feel the games lacking in.

Slender's very much the game equivalent of a screamer vid. Worth playing once to get the initial jump scare, but beyond that there's really not enough in it to keep coming back. Without any context or story it's just a bunch of random spooky shit dumped in a forest - perhaps in later updates they'll remember to include some motivation to keep playing.

I got forced into playing this game around a friends house and the only thing scary about it was not knowing what was supposed to scare me. I too thought it would be some cheap loud noise and zombie face on screen at some random point but it was just a stationary figure. Mildly scary first time playing through after all the hype and boring there after.
