It is and audio timer. Very common add on for you hifi system back in the 80s. You could even record you fav program, just let you deck on REC and PLAY and timer will switch the system and record. Once digital controlled decks and other started to appear, they keep the function TIMER. You cant leave play and rec pressed on a digital deck. they dont have push buttons that lock. Instead, they put a switch on the front called TIMER and usually 3 positions, PLAY, REC and OFF. If you flip to REC, the deck will auto start after getting power allowing those timers to do their job. Play was to start the play function and rec for the rec function and off is to disable the thing so the device wont do anything on power on.

I feel like you should of contrived an example where the alarm turned on the outlet, there's a lot of comments here that seem confused and the video just isn't as impressive as it could of been. Seeing a coffee maker or something turn on when the alarm went off would of been more impressive. I understand your toaster wouldn't of worked for that because it won't stay down when unpowered. That's a shame, would of made the video better!

I'm a sucker for anything with a good vacuum fluorescent display. While most stereo companies in the late 70s through 80s had timers, Pioneer Electronics made one that was VERY similar to this only it had a blue filter on the display and slightly different knobs.
The display sans filter is a whitish green. Filtering out the green with a red-ish filter results in white!

In the video it is 4: 35 PM at about 2 minutes and 30 seconds in.
If you account for the time it took you to grab your camera, you more than likely started this video shortly after 4: 20.
_Allow me to reiterate that. _
You made a video
About cooking poptarts _through a clock_
Shortly after 4: 20
_I wonder why. _

Somehow your videos are always informative and entertaining while being totally chill. I think thats why I like your videos most of all. Not all hyper and yelling at the camera and also not wasting time. Also what is the background music? -scratch that I see in the description.

Not going to lie, I was expecting it to be a some kind of clock+toaster combo XD But this is a curious little thing. Now I shake my fist at you for having Pop-Tarts while I do not. Nor can I eat them because being sick in the throat sucks when trying to eat things >. >

This is actually a very nice looking alarm clock. I like the additional outlets, I would use em to charge my psp/phone and power my bedside lamp
And the -outlets power on when alarm goes off- option is great too if you were to use it in the kitchen! -_- b

Damn I swear maybe it's just my country (I wouldn't know too well, I'm only seventeen) but our poptarts are different entirely. I got to go to the U. S. once and they were awesome but back here in NZ they're just crumbly and thin. At least they taste alright haha.

The simple automation would be a lot more useful if you could set a time offset from the alarm, to set it up so your tarts would be done shortly after you wake up. And then if you can disable the terrible sound, you could make a toast-based wake up system!

I have an ancient Sears alarm clock with a switch like that. Those things are tanks, damn near indestructible. There also isn't a limiter on the volume knob so you can set it so high that it's guaranteed to wake you up and possibly cause hearing loss.
