I downloaded the game despite my better judgement and even tho I never cared for Pokemon at all, I find it to be a nice distraction for what it is. While I do have a ton of Pokestops/Gyms just within a few blocks from and I've also found most of the Pokemon just walking down my street, it has really just been something I do while I walk my dog. Granted I caught a nasty flu this past week and haven't had any desire to travel anywhere in the volcano that we call Summer in South Florida, I might just do a little more exploring if the game still holds any interest when I get better.
I do agree that the game is very lacking right now tho, since throwing Pokeballs can be very sketchy at times and gathering with people seems pointless since you can't battle outside of Gyms (good lock training/battling at Gyms if you are just casually playing) or even trade Pokemon with others which really should have been in the game from the get go. The hype will no doubt die down within a few more weeks, but if they add PVP battling (as well as revamp the battle system) and trading in future updates I could see people picking it up again for a while longer. For right now tho, it is just the current hot app that is getting people to actually go outside and get their bare minimum of exercise for the day.
I did however find out that a strip club in my area is a Gym, which I found to be absolutely hilarious for obvious reasons.

-Wasted potential- is what comes to mind with this game. It was fascinanting to see the tracking effect the franchise attached to this game had on the huge number of players they amassed in 2016 (and quickly lost since most realized there was not much to do. Even today when they have finally implemented actual PvP and trading, together with raid bosses to catch some rare pokemon, it feels it just has reached the level of a -standard MMO-, but certainly more than the novelty it was a release. For someome who returned to the game in 2018 it's interesting to see this and realize what a mess it was and how far it has come. The battery life issues specially have been improved upon a lot (or maybe phones have better batteries now)and crashes are less frequent.
One can only wonder how much of the poke craze playerbase it could have retained if it was released in its current state. But seeing as even AAA developers release broken messes that they finally fix years later one thinks the game industry hasn't realised yet that doing that makes them loose player trust and hurts more in the long run than the quick cash they make at release.

I think its pretty cool, me, my boyfriend and several of my friends/family members play. its a lot of fun honestly. I did grow up with pokemon but I was never heavily into it like everyone else but I do know a thing or two about it. It get's teenagers out of the house and walking around, getting exercise which is something a lot of people lack. I've done so much walking lately and I honestly love it. I've met some really nice people from the team I'm on and other teams. yes their are some bugs. the servers are a huge issue as is the freezing and glitching. but what do you expect from a new game? new games always have bugs/server issues when they first come out, maybe not a ton but their is always something someone will complain about and or have a problem with, but mods exist so they can probably fix it. I really enjoy the game and its really cool for the kids who grew up with it back in the 90's to have some nostalgia and play pokemon in a different way.

Agreed, the game is essentially in Beta. Super buggy and unstable, and clearly lacking in obvious features like trading and player vs player battles. That being said, the concept is fantastic and surprisingly entertaining. I hadn't given the game a thought, but then all my friends started getting it and I decided to give it a go (to my supreme pleasure. The game is entertaining because it's by nature easy and casual. You can play on your way to work, on your way to the grocery store, hell even in the grocery store. I've always been a gaming nerd, and for the first time since I was a kid all my friends want to talk about a video game with me. I find it immensely rewarding as a game and a social vehicle. fun, addicting, easy, and omnipotent. Even in its buggy state it's fantastic. In future months, as the game is polished and patched I can't wait to see how it improves and stabilizes!

Pokemon GO made me hate the whole series now. I remember the times when I was the only person at kindergarten and at school who had a Nintendo console. I was playing Pokemon Red Fire on my GBA SP. It was great, because most people I met only knew the TV cartoon, not the game. As soon as people started to play this awful mess, they would become zombies. I go very often with my friends in the park and I see lots of teenagers and not only that have their eyes stuck into their phones. Heck, one day I scared two guys by pretending that I'm crashing into them with my bike. At least, there's no Pokemon GO on Windows Phone, so that's a good thing (on Windows 10 Mobile there's an unofficial Pokemon GO client just so you know.

4: 36 is the reason I'll never play this game again really. Even when the game does work you're subject to heavy RNG and other factors that just make the game less fun.
In this timestamp you are surrounded 5 pokemon and maybe you got lucky but this rarely happens to me. As a matter a fact after the second day of playing the game stopped showing me pokemon with the footprint indicator of 2 or 1 and the only things I catch are whatever happens to spawn. Granted it COULD be those pokemon on the grid but I don't know. It just keeps telling me everything is really far away.

i have old hardware because i haven't really been able to afford newer stuff in a few years. i checked the store on my phone and, of course, it was not compatible. i then downloaded it on my ipad and after hours of trying to get it to work, once i finally did, it made me realize it doesn't even have a gps. so i just could never even play it while it was popular. i'm getting a new phone soon, thought, so let's hope it's not too crappy and i might give the game a try, especially now with the recent gen 2 update

I can't even play the game in my area. Either it can't find the GPS signal and then glitches out and won't work anywhere, or it decides it won't log in even when there's internet. And then when it does finally decide to load. Lo and behold. There's nothing! I literally caught more pokemon on the bus once then I did going for a walk in my area or walking to work and back all the time. Nothing spawns at all. Considering I spend most of my time at work nearby or near my home, it's basically unplayable.

I'm not a Pokemon Go player (don't even have a data plan for my phone) and crashing bugs are a big issue, but simplicity? C'mon, man! Some of the greatest games of all time are the simple ones: Mario, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Defender, Pac Man, Area 51, etc! Sometimes complex game design and having all the bells and whistles just makes gameplay complicated, boring, and simply not that fun.
Give the simple stuff a little credit: Simplicity means ease of gameplay. ;)

They should've made some things differently in my opinion. Have a pokemon team of 6, like the games. Have proper battles with wild pokemons you find while walking, having to lower their HP to increase catching success rates. Different pokeballs (Great balls, Master balls, etc) with different success rates. PVP is a must as well! Maybe Pokemon centers to recover pokemons HP? Basically. make it a bit more like the original games, not exactly the same but yeah.
