I got 'Mega Man 3' on clearance at a smaller chain in the Midwest called Prange Way back in the mid-90's and I was very confused.
I had rented a few of the first 3 or 4 Mega Man games for NES from a local video rental place and I couldn't figure out exactly what I was playing. I had played plenty of good sidescroller DOS games at that point (mostly the shareware versions of things like 'Alien Carnage' and 'Duke Nukem' over at my friend's house, as he had an older DOS/Windows 3. 1 386 PC before my family got a Packard Bell in 1995 and I learned the joys of games like 'The Journeyman Project'. P. S.: please do something on Presto Studios at some point, Clint) and I still couldn't understand how it was simultaneously so bad compared to both the NES Mega Man and other contemporary PC games.
Honestly, I had more fun with the Mega Man 3 Tiger Electronics game I had gotten for Christmas a few years previously than I did with the PC port I bought with my allowance money. thank God there were things like the Space Quest games (I had played the -The Sarien Encounter- at that same friend's house) to be found at other Midwest chains (ShopKo, if I remember correctly) around that same time.

These guys made some of my earliest software experiences, some of em weren't bad at all. Anyone else got love for:
-The Chase on Tom Sawyer's Island- - garish colors but good strategy/action for the developing mind, I played this addictively for a while - I got scared after level 3 though when the bear came out of his cave - though I could hide from it in there! LOL
-Adventures of Beetlejuice: Skeletons in the Closet- - I loved this and still play it sometimes, it gets pretty brutal passed level 40 and (as far as I know) just keeps going forever.
-Chip 'N Dale Rescue Rangers: The Adventures in Nimnul's Castle- - Alright but full of repeating timing patterns on each screen that, even as a youngun, I soon figured out.
-Flintstones: Dino: Lost in Bedrock- Bleh, I liked it at the time, as I was a dumb kid, but this ones full of those mega man problems. I replayed 1 and 1/2 levels over and over and never got further.
But anyway, that's 3 out of 4 decent games. I recon they were best when they kept it simpler - and avoided platformers. Thanks for the history.

Mega Man DOS is a peculiar game. It was my first Mega Man game, way before I got to check out the NES Mega Man games. Despite its awkward controls and annoying enemies, it taught me the basics of Mega Man's gameplay, and I think it warranted some good ideas. Three robot masters, with their slow patterns of moving and fighting, was a decent introduction to how Mega Man boss battles worked. Sonic Man's stage, though its enemies irritated me, is my favorite stage because of the Bubble Man-esque radioactive swimming pool vibe is has going on for it. Interestingly, Mega Man DOS's textures were ripped off for Duke Nukem 1, particularly the radioactive barrels in Sonic Man's stage and the storage boxes in Dyna Man's stage. MM DOS 3, despite having good ideas in it too, seems too difficult and complicated for me. Still, I think MM DOS has some good ideas, and that an MM DOS 2 game would work best as a retro fan game with borrowings from Apogee's platformers.

If you think that Mega Man game was horrid, Street Fighter II was worse. Mega Man was somewhat playable. Street Fighter II was if you had Street Fighter, and slowed it down. It was slow and awkward. The jumping physics was off, and the pacing was bad. The MIDI music was horrid. In fact, the best song was a great rendition of the Ryu theme, and I don't think they used it at all! What in the world! You fight often to a bad version of the player select music! Why didn't they use the Ryu theme? The arcade machine even used a synth chip than similar to what's in the Sound Blaster!

The PC Mega Man games were certainly a curiosity, but that's about as far as either of the games go. Mega Man 1 PC was a mediocre entry with awkward controls and no Adlib/Soundblaster support. Mega Man 3 PC was actually worse, as the frustration factor was -much- higher than before. In either case, be warned that neither game is aimed to please fans of the Nintendo entries. They aim simply to reproduce some of the series's elements, but little of its gameplay.

I had that muppet game for the NES and never could finish it due to it's poor hit detection programming on the second to last boss in the game (also the first boss of the game. Given that was the quality of titles they were porting and knowing how terrible the DOS Mega Man is, it's really a testament to the margins on video games back in the early 90s and late 80s that this company was able to last so long producing such. tripe.

Not to be confused with Hi-Tec Software, a company that lasted about 3 years in the early nineties with a slew of Hannah Barbera licenses, Future Bike Simulator, and a game called Chevy Chase (Chevrolet racing game - sadly nothing to do with the reknowned comedian.
Lots of fun games were made by Hi-Tec, and I recommend you check them out, if you haven't already!

Steven,
As soon as I saw that heart logo in the thumbnail I knew I had to watch. I had Muppet Adventure and Win Lose or Draw, and I played them all the time when I was a kid. It stuck with me so well that I was watching Vinesauce one time, and I noticed that a game Joel was playing used character assets from one of the games.
Kind of a pointless story but whatever lol

Maybe I'm just being an idiot but LGR I know there's a brand of Computers or something among the lines of Hardware that had a similar looking logo to the Thoughtware logo, and I've been trying to remember what it was since the start of the video, could you help me to satisfy my nostalgia?

Man I would've loved to see that twin peaks game even if it was just for curiosity's sake, I mean how the hell would you even turn twin peaks into a game for the nes? Have Cooper jumping on turtles and grabbing cups of coffee and pies as power ups or something? Consider my mind boggled.
