Just my unsolicited input on this topic: the NFS3 that I remember had leaves and also mud and rain spots. The effects and the lighting system blew me away at that time. I think the effects are more pronounced if you enable -near chase-. Some of those might have been available only on 3dfx cards. I only remember that my computer at the time could only run it in software mode. S3 Trio 3D 64+, sigh.

How ironic I-ve been playing NFS III HP quite a bit lately too! Got a Compaq Presario S6020WM off the curb w/ 7500 17- CRT and after replacing the PSU and dropping in a Radeon X1300 PCI b/c Mobo has no AGP also upgraded the ram to 1GB (256 MB stock. Made for a pretty sweet early 2000 XP rig. The game looked like garbage though until applying the Modern patch but plays great after that!

I'll bet you drove the Countach first in Test Drive 1987 (on the Amiga I hope)
By the way, I also got this game in fall '98 and first I choose the Countach as well but in orange custom color though.
You should show us -NFS 4 High Stakes/Road Challenge-, it features a 3D rendered body rolling dashboard interior cam, instead of -NFS 3 Hot Persuit-'s 2D HUD incar view mode.

One of the things about that game that had me geeking out is the music. Each music has like three or four interactive variants that seamlessly mix back and fourth depending on where on the track you are, and how you are doing. The only other game I can think of that did anything like that was Parappa the Rappa, and even it wasn't as slick about it.

For NFS, or driving with the keyboard in general, try these keys: Up, Left, Right as normal, Space for brake, Q and A for shifting, Tab for NOS, W/E for hand brake/Horn. This is the combination I ended up with when I decided not to use the Down key for the brakes. You'll see they cars are where your left hand naturally sit on the keyboard.

I remember playing that game when I was in high school. So cool back then. I remember me and a buddy would trade dlc cars on floppy disks.
Also remember playing this and nfs4 on my ms sidewinder force feedback steering wheel. That thing was awesome and super fun to play with monster truck madness

Maybe not the most durable socks I have - but they -are- by far the most comfortable, -and- most stylish. NFS3 FTW! I think that's the first game I ever made texture mods for - it was so easy to do back then! As for the leaves - I do remember the box art focusing on that specifically.

Hey LGR, love your videos. Have you ever considered reviewing a specific OS? I'd love to see a Windows 3. 1 or Windows 95 review, heck even DOS would be interesting. I think younger people would think it's cool to see the history of where things began.

Holy shit, you have cockpit view with dashboard in this game? Is this some kind of mod? That was one feature I really missed from this game, coming from NFS 1, as I am definitely positive there was no dashboard in NFS 3.

Man I wished these came in ankle style size. LOVE the wood-grain but can't wrap my head around socks that pull just about up to the knee, lol.
Thanks for posting Clint!
(hey, any new sammiches lately)
