LGR - Crysis 10 Years Later: A Retrospective

Taking a look back at Crytek's 2007 FPS game, Crysis! Hard to believe it's been around for a decade now, but here we are. Can it run Crysis? Zodiac011: Closing game to get to Crysis level performance was ARK: Survival Evolved in 2015, the fastest cards were 980Ti's and Titan X's and at 1080p Epic settings I don't think it was playable until the year later when it got more optimizations, and even then by 2018 when it released, my 1070, equivalent to those 2 GPUs could only achieve 1080p 35fps or so at Epic, though when it hit 1. 0 the fastest cards around were 2080Ti's, capable of getting 50-60fps at 1440p Epic, while getting well over 60fps at 4k on anything else.
I personally think Crysis would have been insanely gorgeous in 2007, but it probably wasn't the most well optimized game either, it still uses more GPU than you'd expect or more modern PCs and is only capable of using about 2 CPU threads. In a world were every gaming PC is 4 cores or more, that sucks. Crysis 3 was heavy, but ran pretty good considering, only took until like the 980 or so to run it 1080p maxed quite well. Crysis was revolutionary, it didn't exist at the time of this video going up, but they severely screwed up the Remaster of Crysis, sadly.

I'm playing Crysis for the first time right now. It's pretty fun and the graphics still hold up quite well. On the other hand, the gameplay isn't the best I've seen in an FPS and suffers from player killing glitches but it's playable. I've randomly died twice so far with full armour & health, no enemies around and no minefields or other dangers in the area so although I haven't even reached the halfway point yet, I still consider the game beaten (by disqualification. I will keep playing to the end though. It's not cheating me out of seeing the rest of the game.

Very few things can stand up to Crysis in terms of benchmarking still. The closest I know of are: Red Dead Redemption 2 (Although poor optimization may play a role in the card melting potential, Witcher 2 Ubersampling (obscure meme indeed, Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Control on max settings with RTX on. but I'm not sure about that. RTX is still used in limited games and well, there's countless videos out there on the subject if you want to more anyway.

Wasn't interested in this game back when it was new. When I played it for the first time in 2017, I was quiet disappointed. Really don't like early section with human enemies to shoot. Was stuck fighting tanks. When I finally faced tentacle aliens I simply stopped here and never came back. Early this year I tried to give this game a second chance, but was bored quiet fast. I really don't understand why people like this game.

I'm not the most experienced with pc gaming but I have a decent machine. Bought the entire Crysis series on Steam Having played 2 on the xbox 360. Was delighted to play the first one. I had no idea about putting it on it's highest settings graphics wise till I seen this video. It was defaulted to medium, set it to very high and restarted my game. Was on that weird flying mission. Wow the difference is astounding

I remember assembling my dual core AMD Athlon X2 rig with an 8800GT just to play Crysis back in the day. Had no chance on the high detail settings but on medium it was great. I remember modifying the games configs after my first run through to allow 100% uptime on cloak. It was hilarious, shooting things from cloak without it disengaging and watching the ai panic from all the invisible bullets.

More than a benchmark and tech demo? Not at all! It was a game of up to it's date unseen boredom and lame game desing. It took only seconds to find out how bad of a game it ws, when the game lacked teh feel to shoot a gun from the very first enemy on, wom you had to shoot whole magazines into. Tehn this superllinear hose-levels and uncreative missions, bah.

strangely i consider it and farcry 1 the best in the series, farcry 2 was a pain in the nuts, farcry 3 was -collect whuuuut, crisis 2 was eh? dont remember. and crisis 3 was like project igi on steroids. so ju - fc1 and c1 = on insane difficulty is the benchmark for strategy when it comes to fps/stealth and versatility.

Man, this video reminds me how much I used to love Crysis. I love games that mix a linear campaign with a somewhat open world, and the sandbox elements in Crysis are immensely fun to play around with. And the quick weapon customization system is just brilliant. It's a pity they made the sequels more linear.

I have a 1070ti and cant run the game at max graphics, idk if its a bug or the game is still that intense! Im really hoping they make Crysis 4 for PC continuing Nomads story and just PC. Then bring it console years later so that in another 15-20 years, Crysis 4 would be doing what Crysis is today.
