The Creative Labs 3DO Blaster from 1994 is a full 3DO game console packed onto an ISA expansion card. Combined with a Panasonic CD-ROM drive, it lets you play 3DO games within Windows 3. 1! What an enjoyable and uncommon treat

I remember in 1994 I wanted a 3DO so badly but knew I could never afford it. One day when I was flipping through the latest issue of EGM, I saw an ad for this thing and my heart skipped a beat. It of course did not list the price and my imagination immediately started thinking -Well, I have the computer. How much could this card cost? $100? - I called the toll-free number listed for more information and was immediately crushed when I heard the price. Even at that age (12) I started questioning why the card was so expensive and what gap in the market it was really trying to fill when I could get the console itself at that time for that price.

btw a while ago when I was bingen the computer chronicles, they showed capture card stuff on windows 3. 1, like catureing tv signal and wathcing tv. A video about an old capture card like that on LGR would be awesome, love the windows 3. 1 estethics, and capture cards is fascinating, a computer family had in 2008 out had a analouge capture card for tv with XP media center version, never got to use it, that pc is mine now ous a windows xp machine, still got the capture card, but no cool software was with it, suppose it was meant to use media center, but now ofc there is no analouge signals to try it out with(

Oh! I see Commander Blood there! Have you reviewed that yet? As someone who loved, and was completely puzzled by, the original Captain Blood I was thrilled to see Commander on the shelf at a game shop, which is a wonderful place there used to be in the before-time. The game's pretty linear, but it's so fun and silly, that you don't mind. I don't suppose you have -Big Bug Bang-, the sequel to that / third part of the Blood trilogy? Sadly it's only available in French, but if it was emulated I'm sure some genius Frenchman could figure out some subtitles for us.

Yeah, no video about 3DO is complete without Doom. Doom on 3DO is fascinating piece of work. Devs had zero experience in anything when they tried to make it happen, that's why soundtrack is so great - they couldn't redo music properly, so one of the guys straight up took a guitar and recorded whole soundtrack with his band on studio in order for it to be played as uncompressed audio. The development of Doom for 3DO is amazing piece of gaming history.

Was trying to figure out how they mixed in the video without just taking over the entire screen. I did not expect it to be chroma keying. that just threw me for a loop, I mean that is a solution to allowing things in windowed mode. but why. I almost feel like it would've just made more sense to take over the monitor while the game was running. but I do have to admit the chroma key thing is really cool

You know what games back in 90s where way more cool than nowdays cause most of them included real life cinematics and also difficult you could buy a game and play if during months today you get a game unlock achievements and nothing else thats all you end the game in less of a week most games need internet to be played
Really the offline gaming era was by so far more rich in contents

One thought I had watching this: Doom 1 was the Crysis of its generation. Doom 1 only ever ran well on a PC during its heyday, the 3DO version, Nintendo GBA/console version, zodiac version, etc. ALL RAN TERRIBLY. You needed up-to-date PC hardware that cost a pretty penny to run it, and if you were trying to run Doom 1 on anything else, the frame-rate and resolution suffered horribly.

-9: 30 I boil that down to utter confusion. i remember that time, it was full format wars all sorts of developments and all were tauted as the next best thing. i wanted a saturn later a dreamcast both never happened for me but i remember others buying into this new fangled 3do, my uncle buying a cd-i. gosh we had no idea. tech was big but many wouldnt make it.

When I was a kid my mom had a $500 budget for the entire Christmas (to split between me and my brother. I am so glad that I came from a humble middle class household, with non college educated parents, because if we had more money then the kids would have ended up with 3DOs, Sega CDs, 32x's, etc.

could you imagine if this became a thing again. like microsoft just puts out an xbox series x card for your pc that uses the power of your rig but you get the full xbox experiance? i would scoop that up in a heartbeat. i love the console experience but PC gaming is where its at so this is amazing.
