Everything About 12 Remakes You Didn't Know Were Being Made
video description
. Y'know, one of the things I hate about this culture now a days, is that movies like Overboard while examined by the overly sensitive, far-left, cry-babies, are deemed so bad and so inappropriate for what they did.
Now I'm not going to lie. Overboard is basically a story of kidnapping, Stockholm syndrome, and even admits via dialogue to be about slavery. The movie barely escapes touching on rape territory, by having - at that point - the relations be consensual. So naturally, - despite how much I love the movie - a movie like that would just NOT fly with the wusses that make up this generation.
So what's Hollywood's brilliant solution? Why to switch the Gender Roles of course.
Because, when a man kidnaps an amnesiac woman to be his wife, that makes him a horrible human being.
but when a Woman kidnaps an amnesiac man to be her husband. well that's just perfectly alright.

Is there no one in Hollywood that possesses an original idea or at least a decent plot twist on an old one. And NOT gender switching.
Don't touch Overboard. The late Edward Bergman was stellar as the nuetered husband to Goldie Hawn's harpy of a wife. Roddy McDowell and Katherine Helmond were simply fantastic - he as the long-suffering but ultimately loyal butler, and Belmont as Hawn's shallow, privileged but funny mother. This is a fun, funny and reasonably clean movie I wouldn't be ashamed of watching with my 80-something mom. But, once Hollywood gets done with their remake it'll be likely be something I would be embarrassed to watch by myself.

love that the movies ppl here are complaining about the most are remakes of remakes. i'm always stoked to see someone else's vision of classic material(shakespearean plays set in different eras and with gender swapped characters certainly haven't been complained about so much. the only one i have an issue with is Starship Troopers since Verhoeven had such a specific message and the new one will most likely just focus more on being a space action movie rather than commentary(commentary that we genuinely need to see right now. have some hesitations about American Werewolf in London as well since Max Landis is a prick.

Literally NONE of these sound like a good idea. Genderswapping is never a good idea because the characters completely change as a result, or it's a clear sign that the writers are lazy and the film ends up shit (coughGHOSTBUSTERScough. And why the Hell would you touch Scarface, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, and Starship Troopers? Those films are masterpieces, and remaking them is a terrible idea, not least because modern Hollywood cares more about pandering to audiences than it does making a good film, so most of what made the originals so good will be left out. Can Hollywood just admit it's out of fresh ideas already?

I agree with all the comment critiquing originality here on this video. But i'd like to add the critique of remember when movies used to have some meaning? Like how many times are we going to get a remake thats grittier then the original. Isn't two hours of people killing each other enough? Without going out of your way to add extra torture scenes for example? And then we all complain that our society is just too violent. Well yeah. If you feed yourself on a constant diet of violence, murder, rape and torture. And movies that glorify these things. Its not really that surprising our societies are violent.

Now, if only they would make a true-to-the-book remake of 'Kevin Costner's The Postman'. This was one of the few movies I actually got up and walked out on, and demanded my money back from the theater! The only thing in common with the source material was the title. Costner's piece of crap had nothing to do with the book. I'm glad I never saw Starship Troopers. glad they are remaking the movie, closer to the book. The book was great, the movie. not. The original Dune movie was crappy too. the cable miniseries was MUCH better and closer to the book(s.

We should be optimistic about the Scarface remake. Why? Because of these reasons:
-It's gonna be directed by the Coen Brothers
-The last time they remade a film (which also gave John Wayne an Oscar, they were nominated to an Academy Award for Best Picture
-The last time they made a film involving mexicans and drug dealing (No Country for Old Men, they won an Academy Award for Best Picture
-It stars Diego Luna in it.
So, have high hopes for the Scarface remake

So uncreative sleezy directors are going to ruin the best movies of my childhood, for money? In the last 20 years has anyone even made a truly epic and immortal movie? Do you remember how good Home alone 1 and 2 were? Some asshole had to try and cash in on it, now there is a shit stain on history. Instead of artists like John Carpenter and Steven Spielberg who have talent, we have Micheal bay. No talent? Why not just hire a marketing psychologist to rake in the money?

I agree with most commenters here that I HATE when classic films are remade. They never measure up. WITH THAT SAID. Younger audiences have no interest in older films, which really bother me. But I think that is one of the only reasons to remake films. Cuz when they see the remake then they are often interested in the original. which they would have never paid attention to otherwise. So Im hoping in some cases they will see that the original is by far superior!

If the writers and director can actually stick to bring a true to the book screenplay to completion, i'll be very interested.
I fail to understand why any writer/director would think it would be a good idea to adapt a proven good story by changing it.
When i want to see a book on screen i want to see THAT story, NOT some other story. Duh.
Other than that, the rest of these movies sound like compleat trash.
