Movie Roles That Were Only Ever Offered To One Person Nikola: I hate to talk bad about a dead celebrity, but David Bowie doesn't come close to playing Nikola, and I should know. Insane genius? Give me a break. The only person I think would do Nikola justice, is Daniel Day-Lewis. He's the perfect age. At his time, Nikola became somewhat secluded, and I think that's a movie everybody would love to see. An old man losing everything worthwhile. You would no doubt love that. You make me sick. Read a book, goddammit!

OK, so does the title mean that the role was offered to the first actor, they accepted and the character was created? or does it mean that if they created the character and offered it to the actor and the actor refused then the character is scrapped? Or is it that the actor wanted to be a character so they created a character just for the actor so they would be a box office draw?

Scorsese tried to make The Last Temptation of Christ in the early 1980s, but financing fell through. He was able to regroup and start a whole new production in the late 1980s. This was the version that was completed and released in 1988. I understand that in his first cast had Sting in the role of Pontius Pilate. So, Bowie wasn't the only one offered the role.

Another good person for this list is Robert Duvall as Boss Spearman from the 2003 western movie Open Range. Kevin Costner (who both starred and directed the movie) said Robert Duvall was the only actor he had mind for the role of Boss Spearman and would've never made the movie had Duvall turned down the role.

Malcolm McDowell in A Clockwork Orange. Malcolm never auditioned for the role. Pre production Stanley Kubrick told Malcolm When I was reading the book, I couldn't get your face out of my head. As a result Kubrick had his Alex picked out from the beginning, and wouldn't accept anyone else for the role.

A little too much ass kissing on the Sam Jackson / Nick Fury role. Not everyone was happy about it.
Jackson only knows how to play one character. The angry black man and he completely ruined Nick Fury.
The original Nick Fury was not a black man and should not have been race changed.

You are wrong about Batista. He said in interviews that he had to go to multiple castings over a one year period to win the part. So they clearly didn't have him in mind at the beginning. Maybe he was the first one that they made an offer to. But the part wasn't written for him.

I was never a Bowie fan but I still appreciate the fact that his portrayal of Tesla was pretty incredible. The character really came off as a real world eccentric wizard in the middle of the petty squabbles between cheap tricksters.

Maybe I'm getting this wrong, but I thought that Jackson was also the only person in mind for the role of Jules in Pulp Fiction. I'm sure I read somewhere that the script for the character was completely written for Samuel L Jackson
