I believe Van Damme was a European point Karate champion. The tournament footage you showed definitely was a point match. While upper belts will pop each other pretty good to the body, the goal is to score points, not take out your opponent. Face/head contact must be light and rules normally dictate that causing any redness, swelling, bleeding or death is grounds for disqualification. While point sparring develops speed, reflexes, some specific techniques, etc. it is definitely a different game than a full contact fight or even MMA. As someone else has pointed out though, Dux's martial lineage claim was dubious at best, and as far as I know he had no record in point karate, PKA or MMA (which doesn't necessarily prove he can't fight, just that his ability is not documented. Given his financial beef with Van Damme his opinion might not be the most objective though even if he was legitimate. Van Damme deserves recognition for his achievements on the point karate circuit. If his record is as you stated that is no easy feat.

You talk about Frank Dux calling JCVD a fake fighter? Get it right looper. It was Frank Dux that seemed to be the fake as NONE of his background or claims from Bloodsport was verifiable. Mr. JCVD's achievements ARE VERIFIED. He is an ACTUAL martial artist and his older movies were GREAT! Bloodsport, Kickboxer, Universal Soldier, Lionheart, Double Impact ETC ETC. He was one of the few actors to bring Martial Artists to mainstream Hollywood! So give more RESPECT and get it right Looper. Why even mention Frank Dux, as if he was credible? SMH. You should hire me. I can do a better job than whoever put this together! Let me know.

i was born in 2003 so when i was 5, years later i watched all van damme, Arnold schwarzenegger and sylvester stallone, my parents showed me every 80's to 90's movie and i loved it all, these actors push me to train hard and fight so no matter what bad things they go through they are all my hero's including my fav van damme, my fav movies from him were bloodsport, kickboxer, double impact, his bad guy role in No retreat no surrender and also Wrong bet (LionHeart) those are my favs and i still enjoyed all his other movies love to all.

Ok lets not forget cyborg, double impact my favorite, lion heart, deathwarrant, black eagle, no where to run, etc theirs more movies he made as I was growing up that were hella famous funny how they just talk about Little from the beginning and mostly up today you should throughly do your research before you criticize us say hes one hell of an actor I remember when Double Impact first came out I had to reserve a copy at the rental video store because they were all rented out within the weekend

Actually, like Schwarzenegger, JCVD chose the wrong scripts post 1995. He was offered a contract worth US 12 million a movie by a major studio, but he declined, asking for the same payment as Jim Carrey I. e. 20 million. Luckily, his business ventures were stable enough to prevent him from going into Nic Cage scenario. But let's hope he makes a comeback soon, he still has enough firepower left in him.

Jean is a child of the 1990s. That was his prime. Physically he got worse, but even bigger were his mental problems, in particular his cocaine habit. Also times changed. I loved Bloodsport, but nowadays I would not watch such a movie simply due to lack of interest (I am no longer actively training in the martial arts either, even though I still like them.

this wasn't all tooo correct. any ways he did a few good movies from 2000 to 2008 they were just simply not noticed or judged down because of a few that were not the best. never heared someone who actually watched films like wake of death, until or replicant saying these are no good movies, even most of my liked and they are not fans like me.
