Everyone keeps arguing that the alternate ending is better because it's closer to the source material, but the movie isn't the same as the source material. The movie deals more with Will Smiths character struggling to find a cure and find people, being left alone trying to survive, and with his dog's death it pushes his character further with all his frustrations. That's what the movie focused on, it didn't focus on the vampires being human like with feelings, and only a bit of intelligence, but throughout the movie they're portrayed as monsters. That's why I prefer the original ending, because it fits better with what the movie focuses on such as finding a cure and his character finally ending all his frustrations.

I don't think the alternate endings Neville was bad, it was just bad communication between Neville and the vampire zombies. Neville wanted to find a cure to cure the vampire zombies and he hadn't tried to communicate with the vampire zombies because he thought they were just aggressive and hostile to anything. if he was able to communicate with the VZ's he would have told them that he wanted to help them and not harm them. In the end, it was just bad communication and misunderstandings between them

I think its kinda ironic that he has been thinking the darkseekers are only killing machines but at the end when he is behind the glass door and the darkseeker leader is smashing his head against the door he looks over to anna and ethan cowering in fear and the darkseekers behind the leader he realized that they see him as the monster and like him protecting anna and ethan the darkseeker is protecting his pack

Remember the scene when one of the Darkseekers exposed himself to light when Neville kidnapped the girl? You could see that there still was light in his eyes even after being mutated. The alternative ending emphasizes this. It shows that darkseekers experience feelings and emotions just like humans do.

In the book, Anna is really a dark seeker that is highly advanced, and she lures him into a prison. The last line of the book is that he looks out the window to see all of the dark seekers ready to feast on him, and then he acknowledges himself as a legend, hence the title. He is known as a legend for killing a bunch of dark seekers in his experiments for a cure.

When he said that bob marley could cure hate what he really said was music can cure racism
Second, it was never said that Nathan was Anna's son. they played it out but was never really officially said. Anna mentioned that she was on a medical ship with the red cross and was one of 5 survivors. Nathan was one of them. thats it.

I personally like the original ending way better. It ties into the story better because Neville decides to sacrifice himself for the woman and her son that remind him of his own wife and daughter. The death of his family and dog didnt go to waste bc he was finally able to cure and save humanity. Therefore he is legend.

seen this when it came out in the cinema, it was amazing, so tense. i just seen the alternate ending yesterday after thinking of the film and watching it again. i prefer the original as it has more impact. great film anyway, wish i could see it again without knowing the plot and get the emotions all over again.
