The Reason Paul Schneider Left Parks And Rec After Season 2 Tara: In shows in the office where so many of the characters are crazy or just super unrealistic, characters like Pam and Jim work as the straightman to kind of ground things and stop the crazy ones like Michael and Dwight before something turns bad.
Parks and rec yes was filmed in the same way as the office and was created by the same people but theres a key difference: although we encounter Leslie whos unrealistically optimistic, Tom who tries so hard to be hip, or even April whos just plain weird, when it boils down to it theyre characters that can still make the right decisions and have some common sense.
So when you have characters that are silly at times but some are still fairly normal, throwing in Mark as the straightman doesnt really work because hes not the normal one compared to a bunch of Dwights or Michaels, hes the straightman compared to some funny characters that are fine without him. If Pam didnt stop Michael from things he probably would have died but Mark didnt need to stop Leslie from anything, shes fine on her own.
I think the writers recognized that difference and from there determined that Mark wasnt really needed. And everything I just said is proven by the addition of Ben and Chris: again theyre both characters who can normally function and are adults but Bens neediness and awkward dialogue is funny and Chriss obsession with health is also very funny.
The office is a type of show where you need people that are nothing except normal to balance out the crazy, but parks and rec is a type of show where you need all characters to have distinct personality factors. Parks and rec characters have characters with quirks, the office has characters that let those quirks define them.

Don't think there was really anything wrong with Paul, it was a pretty terrible character to play really. Not a character that was ever written well to begin with, and there wasn't a hell of a lot he could do with it. I've watched the entire series on 3 separate occasions & his character has never bothered me. In fact season 2 remains my favourite season. I liked the show when it was small, and was all about building the park behind Anne's house & filling in the pit & little things like that. By the last couple seasons the show had become so big, what with Leslie running for congress, going to London & Washington & just the overall scale of the show went far beyond just being about parks. I liked the quaint little show at the beginning more. Just my opinion.

Obviously I have the unpopular opinion, but I really liked Mark and kinda wish he stayed. I think he could have developed more like Jerry or Donna. Their characters where mute and not of much importance but they got better as the show progressed and I think that could have happened with him. Also Ben's character for thr first few episodes of season 3 was just as bad as Mark's, if you go back and watch, Ben was just as akward and lame until they finally figured out his place. Overall I wish he would have at least been asked back for the rare episode in later seasons. Also, did anyone notice how Diane is mentioned but never seen in seasons 6 and 7? ??

I watched all seasons, but I still rewatch the first one, because the first one it's more edged in it's humor and more mean and so real after the 2cond season, it become too nice and make the carcters specially Leslie indestructable with almost no Flawlness. Leslie basic become a super hero and nothing realy real evers happen, what I very much enjoy about comedy like this it's how life and people are way far from perfect and we still can laugh about it. I feel him, the show started more cinical and ended it realy cheesy.

I really liked Mark but Ben and Chris just elevated the show to its real heights for the rest of the series.
I even get sad when Chris and Ann leave because I loved their characters so much in the series. Glad the show had such a strong cast to hold it together for the remainder of seasons 6 and 7.
Unlike the office which should have ended once Michael left as he was such an important part of the show and it wasnt the same for 2 whole seasons

honestly i dont think his character wad that awful, and it sounds like they wanted to improve his character a lot in a similar way to andy, which would have been great. the problem is is that the actor felt it was a different character than he signed up for and just left instead of letting the character develop

The Parks and Rec guys had no idea what they were doing when they started the show. They didn't even have an idea for April when they casted, they literally just wrote her around Aubrey Plaza's audition. They just wanted to spin off The Office, and really crafted the show as they went.

the reason Paul Schneider left Parks and Recreation was he made a career mistake. He's talented, but I don't think her will ever recover and I look forward to sharing a burrito and a miller lite beer on the streets of LA. Welcome to 2020.

It sucks because he was my favorite character in the show by far and I feel like Andy managed to get away with being a total jerk to him scot free which was unfortunate.
