The Office Joke That Cost NBC 60, 000

Not all jokes are created equal, and some come with a price tag to prove it. In the American version of The Office, the pricey gag occurred during a season 3 episode entitled A Benihana Christmas. Fans will no doubt remember the show's consistent quality when it comes to Christmas specials, and for a lot of people, the Benihana episode tends to rank among the best.

wow. it was just 60k and that would have been cheaper than destroying them in court. i'm sorry, but two lines of personal rendition is perfectly legal. they must really hate live music where doing a full cover of the song would also be fully legal.

I get trying to pad up run-time, but you were less to-the-point than Michael in his what are you doing right response to David Wallace. Wow that was brutal getting to the actual information in this video.

Fun fact: Carol is played by Steve Carrel's wife. That picture is actually a picture of her with Steve and their actual children.
That's right, they photoshopped Steve's face onto Steve's body.

60, 000 for that! Absolutely, idiotically, ridiculous! Hell, they should have been grateful Office Space gave them free publicity for a mostly forgotten song, on a hit TV show.

The two waitresses from Benihana are played by four actresses. Two when at the restaurant and then two completely different actresses at the office party.

John Mayer was cooler about his song being used than Columbia production company. Bless you John Mayer and your personalized Dundee!

The music business is full of vultures. It's little wonder the only music that is popular today is overly manufactured garbage.
