Let the Queen & Prince Philip's lives of service remind everyone of the huge, tangible power for peace and stability the British monarchy is for everyone in Britain, the commonwealth and for the world. In the 19th & 20th centuries the U. S. A, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and Greece suffered in various ways civil wars, political storms, and dictatorships. This shows what can go wrong in the absence of a head of state which is above politics, which opposes illegal dictatorship and helps keep the peace. If there are many reasons England, Wales, Scotland, Canada and Australia have had no civil war since Culloden in 1746, having a constitutional monarchy is an important one.
Of course the Queen & Prince Philip had their failings as parents, and Prince Philip could be tactless. Whatever mistakes the royal family have made, let us be grateful for the service they give, and for the difference the monarchy makes for the better, in the world. There will always be violence in the world, and billions of people who know or understand nothing of the British monarchy. The value of the British crown since the 1700s is, many billions of people have lived under it without civil war, lynching, dictatorship in their lives.

Had Parlement not prevented it Albert would have been King by Marriage as Victoria wished. Elisabeth I solved the problem by not marrying but het sister had handed over the keys to Philip of Spain which did cost her the support of the people. Qeen Anne's husband Georg of Denmark was just to insignificant and lazy to make the claim and wallowed in honory titles bestowed upon him.
From this set of queens regnant Elisabeth II is probably the strongest.

The queen decides against sacking her Prime Minister at 5'07? Yes, in theory the Queen can sack a PM - but in practice that is impossible and would probably be the end of the monarchy if she tried. It just doesn't work like that. Obviously written by an USAnian who does not understand the way the British constitution works - the Queen is nominally very powerful but in actuality almost powerless (the dictum is the sovereign reigns but does not rule.

I'm rewatching the crown at the moment and thoroughly enjoying it, clare foy and matt Smith are absolutely electrifying as Elizabeth and Philip. Olivia colman is excellent in later seasons but clare foy perfectly captures Elizabeth's vulnerability, anxiety and quiet strength. A thoroughly compelling series.

Okay when Queen Mary bows to Elizabeth after the King's death is incredibly creepy. like straight out of a horror movie like The Conjuring or The Nun. seriously with the Black veil and intense look (complete with pale skin) add in the background music and it was incredibly creepy, hard to watch.

I just finished watching 5 seasons of The Crown. What an amazing series! Claire Foy is brilliant as the young Queen Elizabeth. She portrays the Queens restraint as well as her eyes revealing the more emotionally vulnerable young woman Elizabeth was. Tremendous acting all around!

Her Majesty has been wearing those pants since the beginning of time. Dang that woman is ICE COLD! I love her for that! She portrays a being not to be reckoned with with style and Majestic standing. Only she and God knows how she truly lives behind closed doors.

In reality Margaret didn't have to give up her title or place in the family. Just the succession. By then Elizabeth had an heir and a spare so it wouldn't have meant much if she had. She said she just wasn't fully committed enough to the relationship

I wish more ppl would watch this series. It is part fiction part truth. Important thing for me is it shows how the Queen fought to assert herself in a male dominated environment. No such word as feminism! She just did it! She could teach the ALL!

Why should the Queen have had to make an exception for Philip?
The question wouldn't be asked if the sovereign was a King.
I'm glad she didn't make an exception for him, especially since it was implied that he wasn't all that faithful.

Had she given Prince Philip the exception he asked for, it would have set tongues wagging that she was only playing Queen and he was really in charge. She did the right thing. He could run the family, but she ran the country.
