We think Disney movies such as The Nightmare Before Christmas, Pirates of the Caribbean, Pocahontas, Mulan, Tangled, Hocus Pocus, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame would make awesome Broadway musicals! Which Disney film would you love to see on Broadway?

I like to see Pixar's Coco on Broadway! Sure, it has the No Music! rule but if Broadway can do Footloose despite the No Dancing! rule, I think they can pull off Coco.
Keep it as music story like the movie, but still add songs. If characters are singing, either they are away from the rest of the Rivera family or it takes place before the music ban. I can see Miguel sing a song similar to Somewhere Over the Rainbow where he wishes to play music and that people would listen to him, instead of trying to shut him down. Hector and Imelda could sing a distant duet similar to SOS where they lament on their estranged relationship (they could also have Imelda sing a song similar to The Winner Takes it All where she complained that she did understand music but her husband chose it over her and Coco. A good villian song for Ernesto would be him singing to Miguel how he uses his seize his moment to get what he wants because success doesn't come for free (similar to When You're Evil.
Zootopia would also be great to see on Broadway! The tone (and maybe musical score) would be similar to Legally Blonde the musical. I can see Nick and Judy sing a distant duet similar to Way Back into Love where they wished to be together again and if they do get back together, they would treat each other better than they did before. It would take place sometime before Judy reunites with Nick to tell him what the night howlers really were.

Oooh. Hellfire on stage. I get chills thinking of it! I'm in Canada, so I usually only get to see tour versions of Broadway productions in Toronto; with slightly scaled-back sets and altered stage direction around that (for ease of travel & accommodating venues of various size & architecture age ig. Despite this; I DO remember how powerful the pyrotechnics were in this one part of the tour version of The Phantom of the Opera.
The entire front edge of the stage lit up in 4-5 ft-tall columns of fire! I could feel the fire's heat from my seat in the middle-to-back of the Orchestra section (i. e. ground/floor level. And it wasn't a subtle warmth either! It was literally like I was sitting right in front of a blazing campfire on a cool night lol. Idk how the people up front handled the heat. It was also so bright that it left one of those light-imprint phenomenons in the middle of my eye-sight for the next few seconds after they extinguished.
If a scaled-back tour version of an infamously decked-out musical production can pull off an impactful pyrotechnics scene. imagine what can be done with Hellfire for a Hunchback of Notre Dame production!

I disagree with Mulan, the songs are not the best from Disney other then the songs Reflection and I'll make a man out of you are the best ones from the movie, the rest are simply not memorable. And what additional songs they write for the show can it help save the ones that are already there? With some live action ones in there, you have a lot of animated ones, and aren't there just enough animated musicals that got turned into the stage productions, The Lion King, Aladdin and soon Frozen will play its official opening night show. The exact opening day is March 22nd, which is 1 month from the first preview. And even in your honorable mentions, I strongly disagree with Fantasia, as much as I have to say it I hate this movie. Just about everything in Fantasia is boring, the only part that I had liked was the Mickey Mouse short, and that is done before the first hour of the movie.

Great picks! But not sure for one of the Honorable mention of the Princess Dairies though, maybe they could do an Princess and the Frog interpretation to it, like Mia getting an song to her self about her being an regular citizen figuring out that she is a Royal maybe that be good. Plus other songs that describes how she feels about it, plus show stopper of either Push it to the Limit, or It's My Turn Now when she decides to become their princess, maybe that could work.

I actually saw Hunchback as a stage musical at La Jolla (San Diego) and it was fantastic! This was a few years ago and they had every intention of taking it to Broadway. It did not make it (the second half of the musical probably needs to be a little stronger. One of our regional theaters (LA/Orange County) did a production with a deaf actor and once again it was fantastic! Perhaps they did not want to take on Hamilton and wanted to work on Frozen while that was hot.

Here's an suggestion: Top 10 Non Disney Animated Movies That Should Be Adapted for Broadway. Some examples include Spirited Away, Cats Don't Dance, The Pebble and the Penguin, Quest for Camelot, The Swan Princess, Ferngully: The Last Rainforest, Princess Mononoke, The Road to El Dorado, and Coraline. Oh and please have Spirited Away in the Top 5. Imagine if Julie Taymor directed it.

Mulan does have an official Disney stage adaptation. Although its a JR version (meant for amateur theatre companies, run time is about an hour and a half and meant for actors 18 and under. Rumors have it that there is a full version floating around somewhere and I hope that itll see the light of day eventually either professionally or on the amateur stage.

The off broadway production of hunchback was written by Allen Menken and Steven Schwartz. I still dont know why it didnt go all the way. The music is fantastic and the story is ripe with spiritual angst and provokes a deep contemplation on the world. Especially now. Just Go Listen To Someday (sung by Esmeralda and Phoebus) youll see what I mean.

I actually went on the Disney cruise that had the Tangled musical and it was actually really good! It had some differences and some unexpected things that they did and didnt include from the movie, but I still really liked and enjoyed it and I hope it does end up on Broadway soon too!

They should definitely put Hunchback of Notre Dame on Broadway. That would be interesting. Broadway has done Les Miserables and with them doing The Hunchback, it would be great to see two works of Victor Hugo's on stage. (I don't see Mouse Detective as a Broadway play by the way)

Jude law was pretty creepy in rise of the guardians and would make a good judge frollo and get ken page to come back as oogie boogie. He is already a broadway vet. Another possible choice for frollo would be nigel bennett from forever knight.
reply

Bedknobs & Broomsticks stage adaptation would be great if it has Angela Lansbury repeating her film role! This would include Angela riding around the theatre with other characters on a flying bed, like she did in the movie.
reply

Kinda surprised that Who Framed Roger Rabbit isn't on the list. That would make a BRILLIANTLY CAMPY musical!
Edit: Also Oliver & Company, Dinosaur, and Home On The Range!
And a techo-musical adaptation of TRON!

reply

How dare you not mention Hercules. The gospel musical numbers would translate well to the stage. Just imagine zero to hero as a musical number. They could also give Hades an epic musical number.
reply

I'm with Tangled, Hocus Pocus, Mulan and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. However, I'm also thinking High School Musical, Descendants, Moana, Halloween Town (RIP Debbie Reynolds) and Brother Bear.
reply

I will go with Mickey Donald and Goofy The Three Musketeers the Broadway musical stage adaptation based on the movie called Disney's Mickey and Donald and Goofy The Three Musketeers
reply

#10 makes sense because the film has a LITERAL old-timey Broadway-style musical number in it! And the juggling Octopus could get his own full-length song in the musical version.
reply

HUnchback of Notre Dame could be on the way to Broadway it was in Frederecia in Denmark last year and Broadway have adopted adopted some musicals from Frederecia before
reply

Enchanted, I have it on DVD. This would do very nicely on stage in a Disney Broadway production. Some Disney animations and live action films should be left as they are.

I think you should do Top 10 Disney on Broadway songs video and include songs like Endless Night, Shadowland, If I Can't Love Her and Something to Believe In.

I personally feel like High School Musical would make a great Broadway musical. I know it had a stage adaptation but i think it should come to Broadway

Live Action Mulan movie will not be a musical to make the movie realistic to Chinese Culture. Mulan on Broadway could have singing.
reply

There is already a Milan musical unfortunately it is a Jr. version so its not on broadway but there is a stage Adaptation of Mulan.
reply

But NMBC is already on a stage, granted not broadway but its a C- minus at best. more thought should of went into the details.
