Excuse me my dear, but talking about classical actresses, I personally think that there's obviously missing great ones like Greta Garbo, Barbara Stanwyck, Gloria Swanson, Lauren Bacall and not least important Irenne Dunne, Rosalind Russel, Lillian Gish, Mirna Loy and the most nominated one Deborah kerr. By the way Luise Rainer stole the oscar to Anna May Wong, and Anne Bancroft stole the oscar to Bette Davis, she already had 2 though.

Amy Adams and Glenn Close are in great company even if they don't win. Amy has six oscar nominations and Glenn has 8. They are some of the most nominated actresses in history ie. An elite group of 20 actresses who have more than five nominations! In fact I'd say that not winning has helped their careers. Look at all those who've won an Oscar and then not gotten good roles.
reply

Rather biased in favor of current actresses. Irene Dunne, Barbara Stanwyck, Greta Garbo, Deborah Kerr, Rosalind Russell, Eleanor Parker, Maureen O'Hara? Not slamming the talents of your younger choices, but they don't stack up to the long distinguished careers of these ladies.
reply

Oh, come on. Barbara Stanwyck, Marlene Dietrich, Greta Garbo, Lillian Gish, Gloria Swanson, I could go on and on and on! Honorary Oscars notwithstanding all of these ladies deserved an Oscar more than half the (still very deserving) women on this list.
reply

here is my list:
1. Glenn Close
2. Amy Adams
3. Michelle Williams
4. Jessica Chastain
5. Rachel McAdams
6. Keira Knightly
7. Helena Bonham Carter
8. Toni Collete
9. Saoisre Ronan

reply

Helena Bonham Carter deserves MORE than just one Oscar.
Amy FCKING Adams put her heart and soul in all she did.
Winona Ryder played more iconic roles, from Lydia Deetz to Joyce Byers.
That's 3x Shame!

reply

Amy Adams is s good actor, but in the years she's been nominated, I would not have picked her performance over the people who won. Kinda the same for Wynona Rider and Helena Bonham Carter.
reply

Judy Garland #1? Glenn Close should have been number 1. Amy Adams #2. How can you compare two outstanding roles to the 6 and 7 outstanding roles of other actresses? PLZZZZZZ
reply

they dont win yet but at least theyre nominated. if youre nominated its like you win too coz your performance was recognize. their time will come just like leo dicapio.
reply

Amy Adams is too low on the list, she should be in the top 3 at least. Im also surprised Glenn Close isnt number one with how many nominations she has without a win.
reply

Since the Oscars have recently suffered from decreased viewership, why not have an audience award? Then some of these acclaimed actresses can get an Oscar finally.
reply

Out of these extraordinary women, at least Jessica Chastain (#6) has won an Oscar so far. Hope Glenn Close gets hers soon, as does Angela Bassett & Amy Adams
reply

What about Barbara Stanwyck, Agnes Moorehead, Irene Dunne, Deborah Kerr or Greta Garbo? They, among any of these top 10, deserve to be on this list!
reply

Margot Robbie
Amy Adams
Scarlett Johansson
Glenn Close
Sigourney Weaver
Rebecca Ferguson
Imo they deserve Oscar

reply

With two more noms without a win, Glenn Close now has 8, yes count'em 8, nominations without a win! The Oscars are definitely fixed.
reply

I know they haven't been even nominated, but I Hope they will win an Oscar one day:
Lily James
Emma Watson
Elle Fanning

reply

Here are some others: Irene Dunn, Barbara Stanwyck, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Rosalind Russell, and I'm sure I missed some more.
reply

Garbo, Kerr, Irene Dunne, Stanwyck should also be mentioned as well as Roz Russell. Not to forget Thelma Ritter, Edith Evans
reply

This topic was so interesting and very well observed.
You identified great actors who deserve much more screen time.

reply

Imo, Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone, esp in la la Land are overrated. Ryan Gosling gave a far more nuanced performance.
reply

ok but how bout emily blunt? she's amazing she should've been nominated for a quiet place or the girl on the train
reply

Delete Chastan's name, he has already won it for his incredible performance in the eyes of Tammy Faye
