love the movie don't get me wrong but i wished they had kept these aspects from the book.
Bram is a bit OOC in the movie. The whole purpose of bram being not found out is cus he just gets so shy and cant seem to speak normally around simon. cus he finds him cute. I wished they kept this characteristic of his.
The way simon finds bram cute when talking to gerrett, nick and bram at the soccer game or something.
THE FREAKING ELLIOT SMITH SHIRT. I WANTED TO SEE THAT NOTE SO GAWD DAMN BADLY. ITS BASICALLY LIKE BLUE'S CONFESSION/CONFIRMATION TO STILL LOVE SIMON DESPITE KNOWING WHO HE IS.
The tilt o wheel. I wanted to see bram braving the entire thing for simon cus it shows how much simon means to him. Simon means so much to him he didnt wanna miss the chance to tell him and to brave a amusement machine he is terrified for, for him.
I WANTED THE SIMON MISTAKENLY GOT BRAM'S ENGLISH PAPER SCENE. i don no why but its cute to me how he replied to the shy bram with quirky answer. I WANTED TO SEE SIMON HOLD HIS EYE CONTACT A MOMENT LONGER THEN NEEDED. (book readers will understand this sentence)
I wished they kept simon's glasses. The fact that they removed simon's glasses gives me the impression theyre saying u can only look better without glasses. I wished they kept simon's nerdiness and not only stayed with coolness.
nick and leah is practically so different from the book it took me some time to reconise them.
I wished they kept the way blue and jacques interacted via email in the book. Like even the way they met is different.
Blue never blocked simon in the book and i prefered it that way. I think the fact that its done so in the movie only is added for dramatization effects but i believe irl the person might turn to suicidal thoughts if handled with everything tossed on his face like the movie shown. With his friends disowning him, his peers making fun of him and last but not least the only one he finds comfort to, BLUE blocking him? IRL i would really be worried for this dude man. I know theyre trying to make it more realistic to real life but i rather they stick to the book for this and shows NOT EVERYONE will just give up on you like that. Not everytime it will have the same problems and ending. Some is more smooth sailing, some is rocky roads.
And lastly, theres WHY TOO LITTLE SHOWCASE OF OREOS. like that in itself is a sin. EVEN SIMON WOULD AGREE WITH ME. OREOS WHEREFORE ART THOU IS THE OREOS? GET THEM SPONSORS MANNNN

Both are amazing, both are my favorite thing in the world, but both are so different in so many ways. HOWEVER, nobody really talked about the characters looking so different from the book! Cal is a almost Percy Jackson, with BLUE GREEN eyes and curly black hair. Bram is taller than simon and shy, martin is tall and has like bold joints, leah is plus sized and Simon is short, blond with grey eyes (like anabeth chaise) and wears glasses. In the movie he wears contacts, cuz you can see in the flashbacks that he had glasses, but still.

I think a very big change was the Ferris wheel scene. Don't get me wrong, I totally get that they did that for cinematic purposes, but I still don't think it's very fitting. Bram is described as a very private person and is scared about others finding out he's gay and hesitant to meet Simon, so I feel like that grand gesture doesn't agree with his characteristics. In the book they meet at the Tilt A Whirl, which also has some kind of meaning for them (which I loved) and Simon doesn't even hold his hand without asking because he knows about Bram's boundaries. They don't kiss until the next day, which I found very suiting!

WAIT, FORGOT TO MENTION SOMETHING! Ok, in the book, simon was this wonderful cinnamon roll and a total ham. He wore glasses, had beautiful gray eyes, and preached about harry potter, oreos and music every chance he got. I don't know about you guys, but I fell in love with that character and I feel like he was so different in the movie. Don't get me wrong, i loved the movie but i mean. Come on. Where's my cinnamon roll? (Also, Simon wouldn't have gone up to the peeps bullying him. He would've ignored em)

I liked the movie a lot but the book was definitely way better, and I'm glad I waited like a year after reading the book to watch the movie, so I wasn't comparing the book to movie while I was watching it, I learned my lesson of watching film adaptations too soon after I'd read the book, I'll just be disappointed comparing them, best to wait awhile in between so I can enjoy both for their differences

#1 should be how Simon's friends aren't made to be absolute douchebags in the book, yet in the film, they turn on him right as he was outed. Yeah, he did some sketchy things, but he didn't want to be outed. People have been killed because they were outed. And his friends just couldn't put their anger aside in order to support their friend? They didn't deserve Simon's forgiveness.

What about the ending of the movie and the book it's different. In the movie Simon and his friends are hanging out doing road trips, while in the book only Simon and Bram in Simon's room cuddling each other. I mean am I the only one who noticed that.

Sorry but i hated the movie. The book is so precious and amazing and wonderful but the movie ruined it and made it really cheesy and gross. And they ruined the characters and changed some of the plot for more drama which wasn't needed. I just hated it.

In the book you could feel more love toward blue. Not just awkward sudden kiss broo. In the book it described the beautiful night alone below the night sky all alone and talking and falling in love but in movie it didn't feel that wayy

What i find kind of funny is that Leah didnt like Nick. She liked Abby. In Albertali's book Leah on the Offbeat, it reveals shes bi and didnt like Nick being with Abby because of her feelings for her.

I adored this book and movie so much! It was so refreshing to finally see a teen movie entirely focused on an LGBT romance, and not simply as a side story, which is common in this genre!
