Okay first of all, this movie is set in Singapore. Yet, do you see any Malays? Do you see any Indians? Singapore has this thing called CMIO (Chinese, Malay, Indian and Others) and it is very disappointing to not even see just one single non-Chinese race represented in this movie that is mainly filmed in Singapore, not China. I understand that the film should follow the book, therefore the characters in the film should follow those of the book i. e. all the main characters should be Chinese. But again, did you see ANY Malay or Indian extras cast in this film?
The second thing I want to talk about is how the world only thinks Asians are Chinese, Korean and Japanese people. Sigh. Please educate yourself. Indian, Malay, Javanese, Bugis, Siamese, Thai, Philippino, Burmese, Rakhine, Rohingya, Bangladeshi, Laos and the list goes on. I realise I may have been a bit too specific for some countries, but the main point is that in a way, Asia is a very good representation of the world. You have your fair Asians (Eurasians, some may even say Koreans and Japanese people, your darker-skinned Asians (Southern Indians, Bangladeshis, Sri Lankans etc, your native American Asians (tribal groups from Indonesia, the Philippines and many more, your yellow-skinned' Asians (Chinese, Mongolians, Hong Kong people, etc) and your similar-looking-Latino Asians (Malays, Indonesians and so on. You can read more about it and maybe even travel to some countries to experience it for yourself: )
Initially I was so proud to see this movie produced, especially since it is not just another small, local film. I am from Singapore and it is well, painful to say the least, to hear that some Westerners think that Singapore is part of China. We are not even close to China. We are that tiny little red dot at the bottom of Malaysia.
And then I realised why so many Singaporeans were actually upset with the film. For some of us, it didn't bring us pride and joy, it brought us shame and dissatisfaction. It didn't really represent Singapore. It is even worse because that is the only way Westerners will learn more about Singapore. The film only featured crazy rich Singaporeans, who are just a sliver of the Singaporean society. It did not show the middle-income class struggling slightly with the rising costs of living, and it definitely did not feature any low-income characters.
These are just a few issues I have in mind at this moment. I am thoroughly disappointed with this movie and will not be watching it, as are many other Singaporeans.

My God do you know what an actor's job is? Being someone there not and pulling it off, the more believable the better they are at their job. Should a real police officers only play those roles? I mean people see movies because an established actor they like is playing a role. Yea we want to see something new but I'm so sick of the racist implications put open these movies who cast known actors to play roles.

Being completly honest. I only watch a movie if i think it will be entertaining. Not because it has a diverse cast, or it has a specific actor. If that is all you look for, you severly limit your options. Hate me if you want. I only watch if i think i will be entertained. Also i truly think rotten tomatoe scores and critics don't know shit about what makes a good movie. Never look at the ratings, never will.

I wish they had more different types of Asians. Not everyone in Asia is of Chinese descent. If they were going to change a character's race, maybe another Asian race. Then that will be diversity.

So. I should watch this just because it has a bunch of Asian people in it? Seriously? No, I going to watch it because it looks like a good plot.

It looks like a good movie. I might watch it. Plus I like the diversity. Asians deserve leads and platforms too.
