Personally I feel Pocahontas shouldve been waay higher. She literally sees things differently than her father and even followed her dreams, the spinning arrow was pointing towards him. Considering she was trying to avoid an arranged marriage she knew shed never be happy in because her fathers choice was the complete opposite of her, thats why she fell in love with John Smith instead, he was absolutely nothing like she couldve ever imagined. I mean the dude had a freaking gun on him and she kept following him, especially when he almost killed her she didnt even flinch until he tried approaching her. Also she felt so guilty about his arrest she even says it wouldve been better if they never met, and he ends up saying the sweetest thing ever Id rather die tomorrow, than live a hundred years without knowing you Also I personally feel the true reason she didnt go with him was because she couldnt watch him die. He had already almost died 3X, what wouldve happened if he got worse before they got to London, and there was absolutely nothing she could do except just cherish their remaining time together? Then shed be all alone in a strange land without a way to get back home for who knew when the next ship would be going? She wasnt going to let him die when there was a chance he could recover in London, so her only option was to simply tell him she couldnt go. Not to mention without him she was pretty much the only middleman, and I personally admire she put her duty as a princess above her feelings instead, even if it meant there was a good chance theyd never see each other EVER again. Also what about Kida from Atlantis the Lost Empire, considering she was too focused on reviving Atlantis for a romance, and it was through Milos compassion that helped bring it back to its former glory. Or even Audrey Ramirez, considering she got jealous when Milo fixed a boiler problem, hating getting outsmarted by the nerd of the group? Elsa isnt a feminist because she doesnt have a love interest, her whole arc was about accepting herself and the role she was given. Esmerelda as well shouldve been on the list because she openly screams at Frollo calling him out on his bullsht. Personally with Mulan as well she isnt the most feminist either because she went to protect her dad, and just wanted to feel appreciated after being publicly shamed twice. She wasnt looking to be something else. Meg shouldve been one, considering she literally told Hercules to get lost when he first meets her, and is so cynical its hilarious as she isnt afraid of Hades either.
1. Tiana- she worked her butt off in a racist society to prove she knows shes in charge of her future. She doesnt even ask Lottie for a loan or anything to make the payment, yet Lottie helped pay off any remaining payments. Not to mention Tiana doesnt take bs from Naveen either
2. Pocahontas- Her story wasnt about falling in love. I mean it literally starts with her trying to avoid an arranged marriage to someone she knew shed never be happy with. The reason why she fell in love with John Smith is because he was absolutely nothing like she ever imagined and was a free spirit like her. I mean the dude had a freaking gun and couldve killed her in a second and she kept following him. Their encounter is undoubtedly the best of any Disney movie, perhaps any story period. The way they looked at each other is purely magical and ethereal as if their differences were set aside for one perfect moment. Not to mention her main song isnt about falling in love with him, but expressing her love of nature and opening his eyes to her world. Not to mention in the end she ends up choosing her people over him, but I personally feel the true reason she didnt go was because she couldnt watch him die, considering he had already almost died 3X, and there was no guarantee hed recover even if he made it back. I mean especially when he tries telling her he isnt leaving her side, she ends up using his own words against him, causing him to give in You never will. No matter what happens Ill always be with you forever She also got her father and almost everyone else around her to see the consequences of their actions.
3. Kida- She literally argued with her dad about how Atlantis was dying and was a shell of its former glory. Her relationship with Milo is so adorable as in comparison to Pocahontas and John Smith he can actually read and speak Atlantian which becomes crucial to learning about the Heart of Atlantis, the reason why it wasnt a Utopia of the future.
4. Rapunzel-She instantly proves she is NOT a damsel in distress. She stands up to Mother Gothel and was ready to let go of Eugene and her freedom in exchange to save his life. Not to mention she actually got proposed to 3X and it took an entire series before they got married. She accepts everyone even if they dont like her and she doesnt try to change them, just helps however she can. Not to mention she stands up for her friends and up to her father who was terrified of losing her again
5. Kiara-She was raised with an overprotective dad. She wanted so badly to prove she can do things on her own without having Timon and Pumba constantly being assigned to watch her. She even accepts Kovu despite she knows hes an outsider, and even convinces him they have to go back and get Simba and Zira to stop fighting. I mean it was actually her that taught Simba the meaning we are one when he was too focused on being just as great as Mufasa
HM: Mulan- I dont count her the most independent just because Shang is a subplot. Her story was about just wanting to find inner value when being publicly shamed 2X. I mean she didnt go to war to prove a woman can do anything a man can do just better, she went to save her dad knowing there was a good chance she wasnt coming home.
HM2: Raya- This girl lost her dad at a young age. She literally had to hop islands for YEARS to find Sisus essence. The fact the only men were from other islands and her dad, Im kinda surprised they didnt try to tease her being potentially gay with her friend. Not to mention she actually had to learn to forgive, something Disney doesnt really dive into. Unfortunately Raya and the Last Dragon was admittingly kinda lackluster because I felt the side characters stories got brushed into the same the plague affected us trope.

Imo Moana is the most feminist Disney movie. The ending just bursts with feminine energy. You have a female protagonist (Moana) taking on a female villain (Te Kaa) in a distinctly feminine way (connection/emotion versus aggression) This movie didnt require the heroine or the villain to embody traditionally masculine roles (remember that Mauis aggression didnt do much to defeat Te Kaa) but to both embrace the strength of the divine feminine (Moana connecting with her and showing her who she truly was - Te Fiti, an earth-goddess - a very feminine archetype)
This movie had girl-power all over it. And I didnt even mention Grandma Tala. Super strong and wise mentor figure. So you also have the Maiden/Mother/Crone cycle represented by Moana/Te Fiti/Tala as well. Pretty cool.

Not sure if anti romance/romantic nature should be a feminist related attribute. If it was so then feminist would start to look damn cold and dark. I mean go for it I guess if its your personal choice, suit yourself with yourself if you like. I know I enjoy the company of my girl, and she enjoys my company, and that works for us. I like personal space, but I always thought the world was a big enough place for someone worthy to acompany the journey with. Does not make me less masculine to be loving and caring, i think there is love in protecting something you care about: . As well as love in being caring. You dont become less feminine nor less masculin if you lack them, but I do consider it more animalistic/robotic then human without these traits.

The rabbit from Zootopia is not a feminist if being a feminist is discriminating. Being a feminist literally stands for equality for all which Judy Hopps obviously does not for most of the movie because she continues to believe that Nick is a bad person simply because he is viewed as a predator by society. She herself discriminates against him several times which is a discrimination of against women and men which the movie shows very well. It shows how men are viewed as predators freaks shifty and unreliable simply because the media says so. Why even mention her in this video when she literally stands against everything that's feminism stands for

there are a lot of classic disney women that were feminists. it may have not been as common, but they existed. perfect example of this is cinderella.
her dream never involved a man. she wanted happiness, and freedom. whatever that may mean. she was kind and compassionate, but she was determined and hardworking at the same time. she stood up for herself when she needed to and although she was more passive, that did not make her weak. she was strong. she held herself up for so many years and held out so much hope. thats an extremely difficult thing to do when you are put down constantly.

I think the list is okay on who is most independent, but I think that Merida is the most feminist. I think that because the other did not fight for women to do the same as men, maybe you would say that Mulan did but she did it to save her father, not that I dont LOVE mulan. But Merida wanted to chose her own future and not get married away. She wanted her (a woman) to have the same opportunitys as men. If you do not agree please tell me why Im wrong. I love this kind of debates.
BTW if the grammar is kinda bad its because English is not my first language

Tiana and Judy should have been a lot higher than they are on the list. Judy overcame the impossible and became a police officer against all of the odds while Tiana got her own restaurant against everyone that was against her. Tiana is 8 on the list? , she deserves a higher place than what she got. Judy is 6? , one of my favourite characters deserves to be way, way, way, way higher than she got. Judy and Dawn Bellwether are my favourite characters from Zootropolis.

Tiana deserves better
Why is Meg & Esmeralda only honorable mentions
Why is Nani none existent
Cinderella literally survived child abuse and neglect and stayed herself throug it all
Feminism isnt just about not being a damsel in distress. It comes in different forms.
No Jasmine? The person who rejected every part of being a Princess!
Ariel, Captain Amelia, Anna, Kida, Jane?
Mulan underwent her disguise as a man TO SAVE HER FATHER.

Nani should have been on there above Pocahontas.
Pocahontas was an extremely exoticised Native American who fits every native stereotype out there and is kinda dull. Nani flips that. Shes relatable, human not the other. She struggles with the responsibility of taking care of her younger sisters and working, gets frustrated, and has and cares deeply about her sister. This is leaps and bounds of an improvement on Pocahontas in portraying native women

I don't like some of the things these ladies have done, Rapunzel hitting Eugean too many times with the frying pan, Pocahontas unfairly dismissing kocoum and choosing her people over romance, Tiana overworking and being extremely rude to Naveen, Elsa not falling in love, Judy telling other animals not to call rabbits cute Merida refusing to get married and listen to her mother, moana not falling in love and Mulan not being traditionally feminine.

Here come the toxic comments. I only comment harshly towards watchmojo when they make these two lists. First one is when they judge lead characters so harshly saying that they are the real villain (looking at their choices with putting Aladdin and Woody on that list, even though I was in support of them putting Peter Pan there. The other one is when they say the villains are right.

When you think about what Ariel's story actually is (she sells her voice to Ursula, in exchange for having THREE DAYS to get a handsome prince who she's never actually met to fall in love with her (without her voice, of course, it starts to not seem like a particularly feminist story at all.

This character isnt exactly feminist, but I think GoGo from Big Hero 6 is a pretty bold character, having her main quote being Women Up. GoGo is just a great women as is, being very smart and agile, and not really needing anyone else to be greater than she already is.

I don't think of Mulan as a feminist, because in the end, she returns home, which means, she shatters the message of the equality the movie tries to give.

Feminism isnt anti-men or anti-romantic. Its standing up to people who push women aside. being a feminist is showing that all genders are equal.
