These are the best uses of foreshadowing in Disney movies! For this list, well be looking at ten instances of foreshadowing peppered throughout various Disney films. For the purposes of this list, well be including any movie with the Disney name attached, meaning that Pixar movies will also be included. Naturally, a spoiler alert is in order

NO CAPES! was for me the real foreshadow, as you'd easily forget that Syndrome is the only Superhero in an important keyrole wearing a cape, and when he actually meets his demise, you could even have forgotten that Edna was ranting about capes before. Would be my personal #1 pick.
Another one is Beauty and the Beast, were Belle is totally touched by a romance she read about in her favorite novel, which is actually not that far of what is about to happen to her.
Tangled did by the way also foreshadow that Rapunzel would eventually deduct all by herself that she was the lost princess, since all the signs of her royalty were all seen in the murals she painted in her tower herself.
What can be seen as foreshadow, but what I rather deem predictable is when Hades agreed that Hercules would get his power back of something was to happen to Megara, that something WOULD eventually happen to her (eventually leading to Hades own defeat.
Frollo's love for Esmeralda which he deemed as Hellfire to describe the feelings he doesn't understand himself eventually mentioning many times she should burn, does in a certain sense foreshadow his own ultimate fate, as he falls into the fire himself. Perhaps his And He shall smite the wicked into the fiery pit could be a foreshadow, if those words did not backfire on him only a few seconds later.
Maybe a bit short before it happens also, but the vultures in Snow White are already there before the queen dies, foreshadowing somebody was about to die. This is also due to the short timespan a debatable one.
Tiana was disgusted by the idea of a princess kissing a frog, even knowing he was actually a bewitched prince on whom the kiss would break the spell.
Eventually she would kiss a bewitched prince in frog form and break a voodoo curse in the process.
You aren't going Turbo, are you? that question. Is that a foreshadow or a hint smeared straight in your face? Your choice!
Oh, and a real-life foreshadow outside the world of Disney. In the song Rasputin by Boney M, Bobby Farrell, the male member of the group was dancing wearing a beard implying he was portraying Rasputin. Could this be seen as foreshadowing he'd die in St. Petersburg, the same city were the real Rasputin died?

I see how Love is an Open Door is a good pick for Frozen's foreshadowing, but I think Frozen Heart would be better because it holds a broader foreshadowing. Basically summing up the entire movie with how strong Elsa is, Anna's frozen heart, and how Elsa's beauty does not compare to the strength of her powers.
(strike for love and strike for fear referring to the doing and undoing of her magic, Split the ice apart could be relative to Hans trying to cut down Anna, Watch your step referring to when Anna and Elsa were kids and Anna was too fast for Elsa to keep up. Let it go. Hmmm. Beautiful. Powerful. Dangerous. Cold. which I don't think needs to be explained, Ice has a magic, can't be controlled. which was Elsa's fear, Stronger than 1. Stronger than 10. Stronger than 100 men! I like to believe references Elsa's first encounter with Hans. Beware the Frozen Heart. Which speaks for itself)
It summed up the entire precipice of the movie in 2 minutes

If I were you, I would include Treasure Planet for Jim Hawkins' solar-surfing skills. At the beginning of the movie, Jim is seen riding his solar-surfer, in which he often gets into trouble with the law for. And near the end of the movie, when he and everybody on board the RLS Legacy are trying to escape the titular planet exploding alive in time, Jim sees the portal in the distance as it's not only the way they can all be able to return to the Montressor Spaceport easily, but it's also the only way they can evade a fiery death. Then a large chunk of metal gets thrown onto the ship that allows John Silver to make Jim a makeshift surfer instantly in order for Jim to be able to reach the portal's holographic controller and open the portal to the spaceport quickly for everyone along with the whole ship to escape and return home safely and all in one piece.

I noticed a small blink and you miss it moment of foreshadowing when rewatching Coco. In the first attempt to return Miguel home, the marigold petal glows after Mama Imelda says she will give Miguel her blessing. However, when Ernesto does the same to return Miguel home, the marigold petal never glows, because Ernesto and Miguel arent related by blood. This moment is easy to miss, because Hector enters immediately after this happens, panning the camera way from Miguel and Ernesto. While it happens right before the big reveal, it may give you a small hint of whats to come if you catch this small detail. It also could make you think about what wouldve happened if Hector never entered at that moment, as Miguel most likely would have seen that the petal isnt glowing.

Oh I'm pretty sure that the Toy Story franchise used that foreshadowing from the 2nd movie in reference to the 3rd on purpose, even disregarding the duration gap between the movies. Pixar is clever like that.
Also, I don't think The Lion King's big foreshadow moment is The sun will set on my time here. That's how the Circle of Life works and inherited royalty works. It was just the inevitable truth. So in MY opinion, it's the convo at the beginning of the movie when Mufasa demands DON'T TURN YOUR BACK ON ME, SCAR! and Scar mysteriously says Oh no, Mufasa. Perhaps YOU shouldn't turn YOUR back on ME.
Mufasa meant physically, but Scar clearly meant it by the old saying be careful who you trust.

Another foreshadowing moments is in princess and the frog. During Friends on the Other Side Facilier tells Naveen that Hes gonna get hitched, but that ties you down, you just want to be free, HOOP (like a frog) from place to place, but freedom takes GREEN (which Naveen thinks means money but really means the frogs green color) and when I look into your future its the green that I see and then he shows him the card of his future and Naveen is standing on a lily pad in a green lake while playing his ukulele, foreshadowing how he would be turned into a frog moments later.

The only thing wrong was in Toy Story 3 Andy was meaning to put the toys in the Attic, even though he put them in a trash bag. It was Andys mom who put the bag out on the curb, mistaking it for garbage. As a result, the toys go to Sunnyside and learn (through Mrs. Potato Heads lost eye) that them ending up on the curb was a mistake and Woody was right all along about Andy wanting them up in the attic.

You forgot Tarzan. Tarzan successfully kills his parents and Kala's original child's murderer, Sabor the leopard, who is yellow and black. And then, after Tarzan kills Sabor, Clayton and the rest of the humans arrive. Clayton is wearing clothing that are the same colors as Sabor, yellow and black and another color. This foreshadows that he will be the villain for the rest of the film.

I also like the foreshadowing of Dori and her parents!
In Finding Nemo Dori says that she THINKS the short term memory loss runs in her family and then she spends a few seconds, wondering where they are, meaning she definitely also forgot her family!
And then the sequel Finding Dori is about how Dori remembers and tries to find her parents!

Another thing that shows that King Candy is different than the other racers of Sugar Rush, is that while the other racers have the anime style, King Candy is more atkin to a 1940's cartoon character with a bulbous nose (Vanellope and the others have little button noses in comparisson.

In Big Hero 6 when Alistair Krei wanted Hiro's microbots but when Professor Callaghan convinces Hiro not to sell them to Krei buy saying You should know Mr Krei has cut corners and ignored sound science to get where he is. which foreshadowed Callaghan's hatred for Krei.
reply

7: 35: There is far, far better foreshadowing in King Candy's knowledge. Even though his is a new game, he recognizes Ralph and is aware of what the phrase Going Turbo means -- stuff he could only have known if he had been in the arcade for longer than Sugar Rush.

In princess and the frog song friends on the other side in naveens third tarot you can see him laying on a lillypad foreshadowing
Also unrelated but Im coco I always wondered how did Miguel convince the people in the land of the living that Ernesto was a fraud?

What about when Pocahontas and John Smith first met? He almost shot for for being a native, which foreshadows how he almost dies protecting her father, not to mention the tune of If I Never Knew You plays, a subtle hint that they cant be together in the end.
reply

the wolves from Pocahontas also have a deeper meaning, as the death of Kocoum begins the conflict between settlers and natives, while the Chief is the one to find the courage to end the conflict before it becomes an all out war, hence the smoke dissipating.
reply

WatchMojo you forgot that in cars in the opening montage in the song Real Gone by Sheryl Crow it says, slow down you are gonna crash, and in Cars 3 we see Lightning Mcqueen crash in the beginning. That to me sounds like a good use of foreshadowing.

And Monsters At Work, which have the Yeti return back to the Monster World, you'll find out the real reason why he was banished. because he discovered the blueprints for the Scream Extractor Randall and Fungus had built for Waternoose.

Rapunzels mobile (Tangled. It has a chameleon (Pascal, a white horse (Maximus) and a duck (The Snuggly Duckling logo, which all foreshadow what will happen when she turns 18 during a scene where shes still a baby

Theory: Edna killed Syndrome because Edna one main power he/she has is predicting the future mastermind and Edna did make a cape for Syndrome. Edna does make capes and no capes for superheroes and villains

1: 06 I didn't realize Mike foreshadow what happens later
(After Mr Water throws Mike and Sulley into the himilayas and as they were about to fight, they do run into the abominable snowman)

While I disliked Turbo/King Candy for turning Vanellope into a glitch and trying to kill her and Ralph, I honestly actually liked his kart, or should I say Vanellope's original kart, the Royal Racer.
reply

Another some more foreshadowing for you is also in love is an open door and when the say love is an open door I think it is referring to when Hans closes and locks the door in the castle on Anna
reply

Lmao, when Anna and Hans sing Love is an open door they said You And I Were Just Meant to be! I think Hans says You saying Anna and Anna says I meaning her. So. Haha
( Got this from a tiktok )

The sunrise thing with simba is indeed there but it happens earlier. When he talks to Rafiki it's night but when he's running home the sun rose. The sun rose on the king going back.

Also in Frozen where Ana sings 'For the first time in forever', she says and nothing is in her way and then literally bumps into the man that got in the way of her finding true love at first.
reply

Regarding Number 10's mention of the Abominable Snowman being an employee at Monsters Inc. being confirmed in the prequel, it DOES beg the question of what happened to lead to his banishment.
reply

If you pause at just the right moment at 7: 00, you can see Turbo looking at the audience, giving a thumbs up for a split second. It's a nice blink and you'll miss it thing!
reply

How about in A Bug's Life, at around 10 minutes into the film in the underground scene when Hopper says someone could get hurt at the climax part Flik was the one that got hurt.
reply

Also. Say goodbye to the pain of the past. Also foreshadows that Anna didnt want to live with Hans anymore because he brung so much pain for her, so she knocks her into the ocean.
reply

Love is an open door can also mean that Love doesn't HAVE to be exclusive to two people falling in love, it can also mean the love of a family - as seen at the climax of the movie
