I honestly think people are jumping to conclusions at face value here and it's really disappointing.
Ferdia Shaw(the cast for Artemis) is 15 years old, has read the books, is the grandson of a talented actor, is Irish and is part of the young Irish film makers. His appearance, aside from how young he looks, is one point, and I think his youth will help push the 'juvenile genius' part of his character for people who are introduced to the series through this movie. My only worry is that he may not be able to quite pull of the cold hearted and immoral-ness of Artemis' charecter.
Butlers actor is mostly on point appearance wise, he is tall, well built and bald, and though he _is_ black, I really think that everyone's getting _way_ to annoyed about it.
I am a little bothered by the fact that root is a female, but I think that his/her actor (Judi Dench) is capable of doing Commander Root, and though I do agree that this some what takes away parts of Hollys motivation, to say that it'll completely ruin Holly and Roots relationship is ridiculous.
I'm also really excited about Mulch's casting (Josh Gad) as he to is an award winning actor and from what I've seen of him, he seems fully capable of being Mulch.
I also think that the affects look great, and though it does seem like they are going to deviate from the books, I genuinely can't wait to see what they can do, I also think that the lack of information since the trailers release means that, like what was recently done with Sonic, they are listening to fan criticisms and making adjustments.
Sorry for the monologue, but what I'm trying to say is please please _please_ don't give up on this film, and don't let yourself get caught up in the wave of hate this movie is receiving, at least not without doing your own research and making up your own mind first

Little dark haired white girl with european features: Perfect for the movie
Actual character Holly Short: Grown, brown skinned woman with hooked nose and red hair
Fairy transformation at the beginning of the first book: gruesome, a body expelling decades if not centuries of alcoholism and toxins
Fairy transformation at the beginning of the movie: pretty
Indentured man servant with a long family history of working under a rich white family in the books: Eurasian
Indentured man servant with a long family history of working under a rich white family in the movie: Black
Holly Short in the books: Major part of her character arch being about her as the first woman in LEPrecon; grows to see commander Root as a strong father figure who was hard on her because he know what she had potential for as an officer and didn't want her to feel special about being the only woman there, slip up from having her guard down, and ruin chances for other women to join the force in the future
Holly Short in the movie: ?? ?
They only added their own diversity in places that deeply affected a major characters personal arch and journey, and replaced already non-white characters with a different race IN A WAY THAT THE DIRECTOR SAW NO CONNECTION TO PUTTING RICH WHITE PEOPLE IN A POSITION OF CONTROL OVER GENERATIONS OF BLACK PEOPLE. Where are my brown elves! Wheres the nasty dwarf with a mouth unhinging like a snake and a buttflap to expel hundreds of pounds of dirt! I don't blame the young actress for taking this role, she's a child. I just wish that they would've cast an actress that could portray the kinda person Holly Short actually is (an 80 yro woman with a carrier) instead of a pretty little white girl to ship with Artemis (12)

To ensure this movie is great this is what they need to do.
- Male Commander Root with same personality as the books.
- White Butler & Juliet, Insane bodyguard skills and Butler being a fighting machine like the books.
-Adult actor for Holly, she is like over 100 years old in the books. You cant have a 10-13 year old actress play her omfg.
-Artemis must be arrogant, intelligent and a criminal mastermind like the books with the same great personality and ice cold calculations and cold genius.
Basically follow the book closely and dont change things or it will be another train reck book adaption film like Eragon, Percy Jackson and many more.

What I DO NOT understand is why dont they use ppl from the Little Community? I understand they might not want to be viewed as fairytales characters but honestly, it would make ppl like me (fairytail berd) ecstatic! Just like they did The Hobbit, Willow, Howard the Duck, Harry Potter and The Lion the Witch and The Wardrobe? I hope the BBC gets involved with Disney on this aspect if not, this movie will be so bad

Spoiler alert: 90% of the things featured in this list weren't present in the final movie. Just hope that there is a Top 10 reasons why Artemis Fowl is the worst, and a Top 10 worst movies of 2020 so far. Artemis Fowl is guaranteed to appear in that list, alongside dolittle, fantasy island, the grudge, the turning, the last days of american crime, 365 days, and Capone.

Is it just me, or are all the big media presences acting like Judy Dench is a good idea for this movie, while all the fans are in their comments sections telling them its a terrible idea that totally ruins the character, and his relationships with the other characters?
reply

Show Don't Tell? Josh Gad narrates the entire movie
Strong Direction? The movie's directing is weak and terrible
Good Performances? Everyone either grunts or just can't act
Faithful Adaptation? Book fans hate the film
Reality is often disappointing

Butler is his name. The word butler was said to come from his ancestors. He doesnt use his first name because all bodyguards who graduated madame Kos bodyguard academy has to keep their first name a secret so they dont get to attached to their bosses.
reply

Mmm, Idk. Artemis Fowl was my Harry Potter. I'm really nervous about this movie bc this is how the mainstream will forever view this series. I feel like if it goes badly, then the book series about Miles and Beckett might now sell well.

making Root female gets rid of all of Holly's character development! I honestly wouldn't mind otherwise but their relationship is crucial to each of their characters and Holly is no longer the first female to get to the position she did.
reply

Why would they make Root female! That completely undermines Hollys struggle as the first female officer. Also Roots personality is NOT a cold determined leader. He is very angry and tough that highlights his moments of kindness.
reply

Butler was supposed to have a shaved head, a human mountain, and very professional. This Butler ain't even The Rock, let alone mountain.
If they had to do it, they better had done it right with Elba?

reply

I already dont like this movie: ( Butler black and not even bold: ( + they was stunned by fay transformation, in books this pare were almost coldblooded, and kinda sociopathic: (
reply

How about the source material? Id like to see that in this film. Or was the idea of a child kidnapping someone and holding them for ransom too dark for you Disney?
reply

Damn, even though this came after the first trailer, it's like they looked at this video, wrote down the notes, and just completely did the complete opposite.
reply

This is gonna be a flop as it comes off more trying to establish a cash-grab series than it does a good movie which will do some good books justice
reply

Please, Disney, turn this into a good animated series later. To make up for what possible trash you are going to put in this movie.
reply

I havent even read the books and I found the movie bad. I feel so bad for the people who read the books they must be disappointed.
reply

15 of June 2020. every month there's a new threat and this movie is what killed me and time travelled and killed my childhood.
reply

Artemis Fowl is a Fail though. You can't just put a Child Actor in an Adult Role and think it works out. There are Limits.
reply

People who enjoy the books: THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE ESTABLISHED LORE!
Marvel/ Star Wars fans: First time huh?

reply

Best super smart child, with supernatural aspects, Hunter Rose. Grendel in comics. Hunter is just a lot more visceral.
reply

I will be mad if artemis doesn't have his accent. He is a thorough breed Irishman and he needs to sound like it.
reply

Literally nothing on the list happens except that Judi played Root. Which screwed up hollys character.
reply

0. 29: If you haven't read the series
Me: THEN YOU ARE JUST LIKE THE PEOPLE WHO SCRIPTED THO MOVID OMG

reply

The number one thing we want to see? A faithful portrayal of Artemis fowl!
Shows a shot of Holly short

reply

There is a line in the book that the noun butler came from the Butler family. He does use his real name?
reply

just watched the trailer yeah it sucks Disney should not have touched Artemis because it is sooooo bad
