Rewatched this film, and it was lacking.
They should've given 5 minutes scene in the near then ending, where they show Summer's POV.
It was usually about Tom, how Tom felt, and when Summer said there that It's just wasn't me you're right about, I think she knew, all along she knew, I think she was aware about, what was going on all along. She knew she was being idealized and that hurt her too. That's why it was so easy for her to fall out of love and replace Tom, for a guy she just randomly met in the bookstore, because of shared interests, which she never actually did with Tom, other than liking The Smiths. She found something genuine for herself.
Women are intuitive, and it's easy for them to understand if someone wants them or not, without words, even more with words.
Summer wanted him, Summer tried to love him, even while all along, understanding that Tom loves his idealized version of her.
There's also pain in that for her. They weren't really that of, connected to each other.
It was more than, the conditions Summer set from the beginning that she only wanted to be friends, but she also tried as well to be with Tom, while getting hurt.
I think what Summer cared about, was, what Tom feels for her rather than her own feelings. I don't think she's selfish, in fact, what she did was actually right for herself. It just made it seem like she was, because she realized her own needs in the end after being with Tom, that she's aware that's idealizing her.

One thing I have always adored about 500 Days of Summer is that it defies genre convention, and doesn't play out the way you'd expect.
In any other film, Summer would undeniably be the Manic Pixie Dream Girl to Tom, whose only purpose is to brighten up his mundane worldview. However, much like Clementine from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Summer has her own life outside of him, and her impulsiveness is shown to be more destructive than romantic. She even admits in one scene that she acts the way she does because she wants to, and not because she wants Tom to lighten up and appreciate life more.
Tom realizing that Summer is in fact a real person and not a zany Dream Girl marks the beginning of his character development.

This movie should also be called, She's not that into You. Tom is a fool for forcing himself onto Summer. Summer was just testing the waters to see how far their relationship would go, but it's obvious she doesn't really like him that much. They're good as friends, but Tom kept having unrealistic expectations, and invested his time on her and then got burned in the end. When he defended her at the bar, he even got blamed for it. The lesson here is don't waste your time on someone whose one foot is out the door. Set them straight and if they don't like you, cut them lose sooner and move on. Don't waste your time on someone who doesn't like you back.

So what Genre is this movie really?
I think its a beautiful movie. I love the actors and concepts and artistic display of dimensions relationships can have.
That being said, I love romcom.
I'm obseesed with both Zooey and Joseph and their manorisms and it sucked seeing them not be the one for each other lolol
I don't hate this movie but it makes my heart hurt.
Same with my actual favorite movie eternal sunshine of the spotless mind.

I love how the video has so many honorable mentions, because its so good to choose only 10 moments. The first place was right on point. This scene says so much saying so little (hahaha. Jokes apart, it hit me so hard I almost had an enlightenment moment watching it, and had to rethink about a lot of things in my life.

It's one of the most beautiful and creative movies.
The narrative and the name themselves are a extremely creative way to present a short lived romance.
Is it this expectation vs reality scene that kick started the whole meme trend?
I don't see a point why people hate it.

I love the scene where Summer opens up to Tom but he immediately tunes her off and only tunes back on to hear that she never tells anyone that except him, and that he is special. That scene made me realize that it was never actually into her, but rather his ideal image about her.

The moral of the story is not to be disappointed on the things which are not meant for you but. life has a law that it will give something better than that.
And you should not miss that.
Frankly i really liked the actress in the end.

Ugh. Such a good movie. Even though it doesnt turn out the way we mightve hoped, Summer and Tom ending up together, it was still good. And there was a great moral in the movie as well. Dont even get me started on the camera work and editing though

for me the best moment of this film is when summer visited Tom late at night, Tom gets up from his bed moves in slow motion while it was raining in the background. That slow motion scene was stunning.

Ok but what about the scene where they talk about the girl of their dream?
Arguable the best line in the whole movie.
But truthfully, Robyn is better than the girl of my dreams. Shes real.

I cried watching this movie like Summer watching The Graduate. That moment trully hit me and make me realize I was so dumb in a n unhealthy relationship. Shortly: thank you for open up my mind.

I feel like this movie is finally started to get the recognition it deserves. Such a good movie, showing actual life, and how it's not always what we want, but we can get through it

This was amazing! I normally disagree with a few things when it comes to movie interpretations, but this nailed it.
