Sleepless in Seattle? You've Got Mail? What more could you want! How about a good old fashioned showdown between the two? They may both star the same actors, but these are very different movies. For this battle, well be considering a variety of different aspects of these two films, and deciding the ultimate winner of this fight and our hearts!

Highly disagree with this end result Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks barely interact in sleepless in Seattle. Plus, I prefer the idea that they dont like each other at first but eventually see common ground. Yeah, I agree that Joe is a bit of a jerk in the beginning of the movie more so than Kathleen but I love the idea that he realizes that she was someone who was making him happy all along and decides to give her a chance. Plus, I hate when everybody says that he was manipulating her at the end. He just didnt want to tell her because he wanted her to like him first. Obviously she wouldve written him off had he revealed immediately. I almost like the idea of him trying to get her to like the person shes met before because the side of him that she already knew of course it was already easy to love. Plus, youve got mail has a lot more witty banter. Sleepless in Seattle is cute but I dont think its nearly as fleshed out as youve got Mail

Sleepless in Seattle is a mess. Yes, Sam and his son are great and have a great relationship, but Annie's character is SO manic and unrelatable. I mean half the movie involves her stalking someone and invading their privacy, and honestly Sam doesn't have a lot to do either. We only believe these characters are suited for each other at the end just because the film has hammered this idea into our heads that true love is like magic and we shouldn't question it. You've got Mail is better in almost every way.

I think that Youve Got Mail had more romance. Whats more romantic than writing (electronic) letters, pouring out your innermost thoughts and sharing them with another person who just totally gets you? Sure, Joe and Kathleen didnt kiss until the very end but they long had established a very deep connection.
Sleepless in Seattle was more of a strange infatuation and they didnt truly know each other.
Plus, Youve Got Mail is just totally charming. I will never tire of that movie.

I prefer You've Got Mail. It's more realistic, the characters get to know each other on a personal level so their love feels more real (it's based on a combination of looks, personality, and history, both characters appear to be down to earth, and they have a good chemistry.
Sleepless in Seattle is still a nice film, but it's more like a fairytale than real life. It's also more based on love at first sight but love is more complex than that.

I have to say Ms Mojo was right until the last round. I felt the romance much more in You've Got Mail than in Sleepless. The chemistry between them was awesome in You've Got Mail, with the classic, Pride and Prejudice vibe. 2 people that initially can't stand each other fall in love. Hate is a strong emotion, which is why people go from hate to love to love to hate so easily. Its a totalally believable romance to me!
reply

They are similar but different.
Sleepless in Seattle is about whether or not they will eventually meet. We kinda get to know both of them, and we keep thinking Wow, it would be great if they met
You got mail is about wheter or not they will end up together. They know the best (emails) and worst (business) of each other, and we just don't know if there is going to be a chance of them getting along and being together!

Sleepless was a truly crappy movie. Good cast and soundtrack. You say it was romantic but theyre never in the same place together until the end of the movie. Creepy, not romantic. Youve Got Mail is a much better movie, the chemistry between the two leads is undeniable, and though you say its more modern its a remake of an old Judy Garland movie. thats a remake of an even older Jimmy Stewart (The Shop Around the Corner.

Although I clicked Like on this video, I have to disqualify myself for a two reasons: a) I've always preferred The Shop Around the Corner over the remakes and b) I lost the bookstore I owned because of America's change in preferences. Very few movies are more than a shadow of their source material and it's a damn shame that American kids are rapidly losing the pleasure of reading good books.

Very hard to decide which one is better than the other, because all of them is my favourite. But, I think I lean on You Got Mail more for a better rom-com. Sleepless in Seatle is sweet and somehow painfully beautiful but it s more like romantic drama, while You Got Mail has more funny scenes therefore it s more rom-com. Just my personal idea! :)

BOTH! I just love the chemistry between Meg and Tom. What I loved about Sleepless was that Meg's character was willing to go across the country to meet the man of her dreams (and by the way I loved her long hair. Both movies are so sweet and almost innocent. They don't do these kind of movies very often anymore.

You've Got Mail has withstood the test of time. It was originally a 1939 film call The Shop Around the Corner. Yes, there were some minor adjustments to make the story fit it's time better, but regardless, the story has been around much longer. That makes it hands down so much better than Sleepless in Seattle.

It's also fun to remember that Meg dumped two cute guys for Tom in these movies--nice guys who just weren't compatible enough for her. Bill Pullman lost Meg in Sleepless and Greg Kinnear lost Meg in You've Got Mail. Which original boyfriend was your favorite? Which breakup scene did you think was the best?
reply

I like both movies equally overall! But I agree the plot and romance in Sleepless in Seattle has a slight edge. I just enjoy a good romcom. Chemistry between the two leads is one key ingredient. And Tom & Meg together were no exception. They are overdue to work together again 24 years later.

you've got mail gets my vote. It's a kind of give and take thing. He first takes from her and then he is giving back to her everything and even more. so did she actually go out of business? No. She is into a bigger business --- that is his business, when they are married of course.
reply

Sorry, but You Got Mail will always be better then Sleepless In Seattle. It's more realistic, shows actually progression in a relationship between two people, and still holds more ground now then Sleepless In Seattle's storyline. Clear winner is definitely You Got Mail.
reply

Definitely You've Got Mail. The stalker vibes they bring up really are a deal breaker for me and by and large I'm not big on Grand Gestures or super mushy romance where everything just works out at first sight. I need a little push and pull before everything comes together.
reply

You've Got Mail. I've seen both movies a million times, but I always felt like they just knew each other better in You've Got Mail. It seemed more likely they were in it for real because they both kind of knew each other.
reply

you got mail for me is better. the plot more making sense the characters are more mature and understandable. although in sleepless in Seattle there are good wit scenes and the kid in there is the real deal of the movie
reply

Youve Got Mail. Not even a question in my mind. That one has characters doing things with their lives and fighting for what they want. The other has two characters being wistful and grieving for two hours.
reply

You got mail all the way, for me seems more relatable and fact even though Kathleen does not know his hidden identity can see their growth in person together vs sleepless where not many scenes together
reply

in the presentation there are several mistakes (ex: is Anni'es frieds who send the letter and propose the Empire State); J Foxx dosen't manipulate, remember the scene and the words: If only.

I watched youve got mail for the first time and thought it was sweet and loved the ending but sleepless in Seattle is like a perfect dream of a love story that never gets old
reply

Im a hopeless romantic so of course Im gonna go with sleepless in Seattle Im in love with both movies but sleepless in Seattle will always have a special place in my heart
reply

Both good but Youve Got Mail is better to watch again and again. They have a chance to build a good relationship together to n this one so more realistic and gratifying.
reply

I am so happy Sleepless in Seattle won. Sorry to spoil it for anyone but adults should know by now about reading comments before viewing - you do it at your own risk
reply

Oh what fun msmojo!
Without watching it I say sleepless in Seattle. I can watch that over and over not so much with youve got mail. Cant wait to see what you say

reply

You've Got Mail! I always am in tears crying at the end. This is the only movie I cry at and the only romantic comedy I like. It is the best. I watch it all the time.
