All the witches in Shrek Forever After are green like the Wicked Witch of the West from The Wizard of Oz. And when Rumple kills one he does it by throwing water on her and she melts and says the WWoWs classic line what a world.
Shrek 2 also has Oz references. The talking apple trees that attacked Dorothy and Scarecrow are arm wrestling, Fairygodmother travels by bubble a la Glinda, I believe there is a parody of the Ive a feeling were not in Kansas anymore line as well.

As much as there's one Marvel reference (I think, multiple Disney references, and other references. .. The ONLY reference I got when watching this movie was the one from Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man, because my brothers and me watched Spider-Man before watching Shrek.
And if they REALLY wanted to make any pop culture references in this movie, then they would've had the guts to add the Mouse and the Fawn (Mickey and Great Prince Bambi.

When Donkey said, I say we take the sword and neuter him right here. Give him the Bob Barker treatment, that was easily a spoof of the spay and neuter sign-off from The Price is Right, one of my favorite game shows! And coincidentally, the Magic Mirror gave another reference to the popular game show by uttering, Puss in Boots, Come on Down! You're the next contestant on Hero Time!

There is this other reference I found in Shrek 4. In the scene when Rumple has a meeting with the witches, he splashes one of them with water, causing the witch to melt and say: What a world! What a world! in the process. This is a reference to the scene in Wizard of Oz, when the Wicked Witch of the West melts after water splashes on her.

I did guess only 3 of them and the other one is were I don't agree soso, cause it's wierd how it was, In shrek3 were the princess sings with the animals to attack the giant guard trees.

I definitely caught some of these pop culture references but missed others. Time to rewatch these movies and then watch the movies that are being referenced if I havent seen them yet.

I'm not a fan of the last 2 movies, but disrespecting the premise of a reference is so wrong. I'm talking about Snow White using Led Zepplin's Immigrant Song as a battle cry.
reply

It should have been top 20. I liked the Sir Justin reference in Shrek 2 when Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake were dating. The Knights parody of Cops was hilarious.
reply

No OJ/Cops? I get if you dont want them in the top 10 but I expected honorable mention at least just bc of how much it gets brought up. Plus that sequence is pure gold

very very great fun list I like it a lot very great job mis mojo one of my absolute favorite list ever the shrek movies are some of the very best movies ever

How is snow white paying homage to Thor Ragnarok a decade early when her scene is a decade before Thor Ragnarok came out in the first place
reply

My favorite pop reference is the show cops! When the guards caught Shrek, Donkey & Puss and found catnap and Puss replies thats not mine lmao
reply

Bonus from the TV holiday special, when Gingy flashes back to what happened to his girlfriend, Santa sounds like something from a Godzilla movie.
reply

Right before Number 5 happened, there was a Street Fighter reference too because Fiona did the Spinning Bird Kick and the famous Shoryuken
reply

There are infinite references, Duloc is an obvious parody of Disneyland and the puppets' song is a parody of It's a small world
reply

You mean shrek was kid friendly? I always wondered why my mom let me watch it when I was younger because I didn't get any of the jokes
reply

My favorite is when the authorities find catnip on Puss and he says, It's not mine. Guess that's an homage to Cops, the old tv show?
reply

I love the Mission Impossible reference because it then leads to Pinocchio having to lie about what kind of underwear hes wearing.

#1 is not just a callback to The Matrix, but also a nod to Robin Hood: Men in Tights (Mike Myers is a huge Mel Brooks fan.

Shrek 2 is the last movie my childhood friends and I watched before they slowly faded away and never stayed in touch

1 of the reasons why shrek is so memorable was the way they cleverly put some movies there without being 2 forced
