DCOMs have tackled a lot of serious issues. For this list, well be looking at some DCOMs that get into some really deep themes. Our countdown includes Cadet Kelly, Rip Girls, Tiger Cruise, and more! Which DCOM do YOU think tackled serious issues the best?

I think this list needs to be redone. Lots of DCOMs were left out. What about gender stereotypes in Eddie's Million Dollar Cook-Off. Eddie was teased at school because he wanted to cook. In other ppl's eyes cooking was only for girls. What about loss of sight in Going To The Mat, where a blind boy ended up becoming a wrestler at school. Also Miracle In Lane 2 which is about the first boy with a disability to win the All American Soapbox Derby.

So many movies I forgot about. Taking me down memory lane. The most special one being Tru Confessions. My older brother has low functioning autism so I appreciate this movie alot. Opening kids eyes to others on the autism spectrum. Very few kid movies back then had representation for the autism spectrum. This movie made me cry. I related with the sister so much. I still tear up thinking about it. This movie means so much to me.

The whole bit talking about Tru Confession was filled with backhanded ableism. Developmentally delayed? Mentally challenged? Neuro-typical people try so hard to make themselves feel more comfortable around people like me that the real problem (I. e. civil rights and basic freedoms) is forgotten.
Just say disabled. Its not a dirty word. 9 times out of 10 people with actual disabilities arent going to be offended.

What about Camp Rock? Now I know what you are going to say, Camp Rock didnt tackle serious issues! Yes it did, Mitchie was lying about who she was and what her mother did, and the majority of the camp (Shane) included turned against when her lie was revealed! Now, if thats not tackling a serious issue, then I dont know what is!

With one exception (Lemonade Mouth, every movie on this list was from the 2000s decade makes sense; it was when DCOMs were at their peak.
And no Z-O-M-B-I-E-S in sight, even if they did try to other minority groupszombies are an analogy to black people, werewolves to indigenous people, aliens to Latinosand did so poorly.

This is why I miss the old Disney from my childhood in the 2000s and early 2010s. They actually had morals to the story and werent afraid to tackle serious issues. Now because everyone is so soft nowadays, they dont want to offend everyone. Kids today will not understand the joy we had watching these movies.

Tru Confessions is an awesome movie, and I absolutely relate to the character Eddie. I'm also autistic, and struggled with a lot of the same things he did. It was great to have this movie to watch when I was in high school, because I felt just a little bit less alone.

Cadet Kelly seemed to have serious issues with fashion, because it's wrong to wear gaudy jewelry in military school when you're in Kelly Collins' shoes. My mom loves that DCOM so much that she may order a copy of it online someday.

Aww tru confessions was so good shia LaBeouf was great in that movie was so sad how he was treated in that movie and mentally handicapped people in general the fact it was based on a true story is even more heartbreaking

The Color of Friendship was THE BEST Disney Movie I always looked forward to watching during Black History Month. Disney today would never show the movie because they say the n word.

Lemonade Mouth is such an iconic DCOM film, and I loved it discussing the extracurriculars (i. e. the arts, etc. Also, I cant believe this movie is 11 years old.

I'm kind of surprised Let It Shine wasn't on here! It's all about staying true to yourself and all that. Plus it was just a really good movie in general

Im so glad that Tru Confessions made this list. As someone with a medical disability, this movie hits me hard. Especially the scene in the library.

The Color Of Friendship made me cry this was one of my favorite DCOM movies ever made. What made me sad about this because The real Mahree died.

Overall, this is a great list! But calling Gotta kick it up a movie that tackles serious issues isnt a stretch, its a bold faced falsehood!

Disney shows and movies arent just for kids. Even adults can have the time of their lives learning lessons along the way.
