Another French accent I didn't care for was Ewan McGregor as Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast. NO ONE will ever touch Jerry Orbach's Lumiere. I learned my French accent from listening to him voice the character so well. Do I think my accent is perfect? No. But I still convinced my choir teacher when I was 15 that I was the right person to deliver his monologue at the beginning of a medley of songs from the movie we were going to perform at our spring concert my freshman year of hs. This was before the medley was switched to Godspell by our student teacher we would gain shortly after I nailed my audition for the original medley. I was not familiar with the material from Godspell, so did not get that audition. Still waiting for a way when I can use my French accent in a performance.

My best friend's Family is from South Africa. Her name is Cheree. Their accent and the words that they use are so different from ours, and they are very cute. For instance, in the 90s, of course, we didn't have cell phones, so when I would call and ask to speak to my friend, her mother would say Sha-ree is not home so if she calls, I will have her call you back from a call box
Anyway, it is a tough accent to nail, I like I said, being around friends and family he pretty much got it spot on. He is pretty talented if you ask me! of course I'm not South African but I have to disagree on this one but he is a pretty damn good actor so whatever part or action that he is trying to makes up for it! Kudos to him!

Pitt's Irish accent isn't meant to be authentic Irish. It's meant to be an GRT (Gypsy/Roma/Traveller) accent, in particular the community with Irish heritage, so while it shares similarities with Irish, it isn't meant to be Irish. I believe the accent of Irish Gypsys can be wildly different between different groups, and even within different people in those groups. So, while not an expert on the Irish Gypsy community, I think Pitt's accent is not so strange to be out of place if you remember he's not doing Irish. He's doing an Irish Gypsy accent, which is a traveller community, usually born and bred in Britain rather than Ireland, but within a tight-knit community of their own.

No, I stand up 4 all the actors n their attempts 2 portray a difficult accent! Don Cheadles was great if u didn't know it was Don Cheadles I'd have thought that was just some English bloke! Brad Pitt that was a easy target so I like u even less! He did a superb job n if u actually listened instead of staring at his beauty or being 2 ready not 2 hear, u would have realized u could actually understand what he was saying! I think every1 did a great job n criticizing actors is an easy thing 2 do until u try doing what they do n u can easily criticize urself!

What always cheers me up is watching West End Productions or UK touring productions of Mary Poppins. Dick van Dyke is so iconic, that even young men playing Burt in London, who could probably pull off a more convincing cockney accent by being from the same country as where Burt is supposed to be from, actually choose to go all 'apples and pears, pand of plums, market stall Cockney. It never fails to make me smile

This is easily Blanchett's worst role ever, though, in her defense, the entire movie feels forced and like it was mailed in, including the special effects. Malkovich's Teddy KGB is a damn masterpiece because of how wildly entertaining it is. Of course the accent is crazy over-the-top, but he created a memorable character that people often quote to this day. PAY DAT MAN HIS MONEY!

Brad Pitt isn't doing an Irish accent. He is doing a Pikey accent. Traveller is the correct term but I'm pretty sure they call him a Pikey in the film which is the only reason I am using the word. It's a different accent, defined by the lifestyle of a Traveller. Yes it's an Irish Traveller accent but it's not the same. He did a really good job.

Unlike others on the list, The House of Gucci is spoken in kind of imaginary language - those dialogues are supposed to make us imagine that we listen to Italian but miraculously understand every word Idk if her accent is good or bad, but it's weird to compare it to others, which are meant to be real accents
reply

It's a very entertaining video. I agree with all the entries (but Brad's accent is more Pikey than Irish. However, how can you include Lady Gaga in House Of Gucci without mentioning the tour-da-force of accents-so-bad-they're-good that is Jared Leto's pantomime interpretation of Paolo Gucci?

Tom Hiddleston as Hank Williams along w Elizabeth Olsen as Audrey Williams. I Saw The Light movie. The movie was ok BUT. As much as they both tried. It just didn't work. Bama folks like myself do give them MAJOR PROPS for the extreme dedication & effort for our LA (Lower Alabama ) accent

How could they have possibly missed Tom Cruise's ridiculous accent from _Far and Away? _ I've read people say that he literally sounds like he based his Irish accent on the leprechaun from the Lucky Charms cereal commercials!
reply

How did Daniel Craigs Benoit Blanc not make the list, if not at least get an honorable mention?
Is it because its deliberately bad? Because we know from Logan Lucky that he can actually do a genuinely good southern accent.

I'm surprised Kevin Costner's attempt at an English accent in Prince of Thieves didn't get a mention on this list. You know it's in the so bad it's good category when Mel Brooks added a reference to it in Men in Tights

Just imagine waking up next to that female narrator. It's like having a cactus pushed up your arse.
Still, if she ever gets stuck for work, with a voice like that, she can get a job cutting down trees

Hahahah - I am so glad they mention Lady Gaga sounding Slavic. Literally! I am European, and all my friends have said that from day one. Far away from Dolce Vita, and full on Nastrovje hahaha
reply

Nobody does an accent better than Hank Azaria. Sometimes I think he can effortlessly pull off any given accent even if he hears the language for the first time! A truly talented and gifted actor!

Leos Rhodesian accent is very accurate tbh. So was Brads Irish Traveller accent (different to Irish, Im starting to think yall think these are bad because youve never heard them before

Denzel Washington trying to play Steve Biko in Cry Freedom was a disaster, most notably his futile journey in search of an accent, any accent, remotely like one found in South Africa
reply

Nick Nolte's Italian accent in the 1992 Lorenzo's Oil is so awful I found his character dismissable despite the wonderful storyline opposite Susan Sarandon.
reply

Glad to see Nick Cage in Con Air made the list, but for me it just never turned that so bad it's good corner. It's just like fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

After reading the majority of the comments, this video should be edited with the actors/actresses that really really really sucked with the on screen accents.

Joel Kinnamon in Suicide Squad. I have no idea what that hodgepodge of American accents was but it was terrible. sHelL cUt yOo dAwhN lIke mOwIn dA lAwhN

Seeing that Brad Pitt's Austrian from Seven Years in Tibet accent isn't in this list proves that it was really bad. But I still love that movie so much.
reply

Pitt lived with them for a while so he could pick up the accent. It should be indecipherable to Americans. It was very accurate; Mojo wrong again.
reply

Gotta say, I've met a lot of pikies and Brad's not far off! I found it hilarious. It's not quite English and it's not quite Irish, .it's just pikie.

Matt Damon said that Malkovitchs accent was kind of a joke in Rounders, but the director liked it. Damon said he almost couldnt stop laughing.
reply

Alabama native here - Ive heard worse southern accents than Nic Cage. I have NEVER heard anyone say makes no nevermind. What does that even mean?
reply

William Fitchner, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio, and Bob Gunton should not have attempted Massachusetts accents in the Perfect Storm.

As an Italian woman, the language is difficult and it depends on the dialect. Each part of Italy has a different dialect. Its quite tricky.
