The dance numbers in Singing in the Rain were performed to a music playback on set, then all other sounds for the scene were added in Post Production, including rain and tapping. Gene Kelly himself did the tap dubbing for his dance numbers as well as Debbie Reynolds. I don't see the discrepancy you're referring to in the scene personally. His feet are always moving and taps tap even when walking. In The Gone With The Wind segment, they are obviously using electric bulbs to simulate gas light for period effect. Lighting an interior set by candle or gas wouldn't be possible until Barry Lyndon in 1975 thanks to new, very fast film stock. Olivia De Haviland is trying to hide the fact that the lamp is corded with her arm. It just shows for a second. Give them credit for creating mood with what they had to use at the time.

This was kick ass and I dig the new host.
Please more videos like this! Perhaps something Meryl Streep related. French Lieutenants Woman and Postcards From The Edge being her two Hollywood movies about Hollywood and/ or a story within a story would be awesome to see them explored as they are both woefully underserved in the film analysis genre video

Yes, Kelly had a fever when he filmed the Singin' in the Rain number.
Contrary to legend, it wasnt shot all in one takeor even all in one day. It lasted a couple of days, and on at least one of them, Kelly was sick with a fever of anywhere from 101 to 103 degrees, depending on whos telling the story.
So I think the audio faux pax is forgiven

speaking of mistakes. in the movie clip Apocalypse Now, if one looks at exactly ( on the time index) of 3: 48 and pauses. you can see out of the rear view side. the helicopter that's shadowing them on the pilot's right is ORANGE. BUT when it pans to the full outer view. all the other helicopter with the rounded 2 person style are now Army GREEN

The tape player might not have been loaded, but the Ride of the Valkyries scene in _Apocalypse Now_ is so iconic and epic that it's hard to notice or care. Though in real life, you probably wouldn't have heard it through all the chopper blades anyway.

There's a scene in High Noon with Gary Cooper, where his character, a town sheriff is contemplating resigning. He takes off his sheriff's star then puts his head down on his arms in anguish. Then he sits up again and the star badge is back on his chest.

Personally, I never cared much for the mistakes. most (if not all) of these films were made with out the foreknowledge that future audiences could rewind and pause movie scenes to look for minor mistakes.

Haha, the boy covering his ears in preparation for the loud gunshot in North by Northwest cracks me up every single time I see it. No wonder that Hitchcock never wanted to work with children again!

Plenty of movies have goofs and mistakes in the shots. I guess you need someone with extreme attention to detail who can make movies without goofs in them

The lead copter in Apocalypse Now would have had speakers mounted to the belly to amplify the playback, and the wide shot didn't show that.

But wasn't the Tin Man cursed by the Witch of the East? It would make sense that she'd make tin rust easily, contrary to real life.

Brando was known for not being able to memorize his lines. in fact, in Superman, he read his dialog from cue cards off screen

I was just impressed that Janet Leigh could keep her eyes open that long without blinking to notice they were not dilated.

Dead bodies almost never look real on t. v. or in movies. I have seen dead bodies. They take on a yellow, waxy look.

Not only are Marion Crane's eyes not dilated, but her throat also does a lot of moving for a dead person.
