The Dan Crenshaw thing to me is a little messed up - sure, maybe Pete Davidson was in the wrong for his comment, but SNL's response was to basically give a free political endorsement and publicity.
I remember when SNL had Jesse Jackson as a guest host, and they leaned heavily into his political inclinations. I think SNL has a tendency to drift with the political winds, and as the Republican Party has become more dominant in recent years they have tried to be as hands-off as they can with regards to issues with a vague or indefinite context. Heard any jokes lately about Jim Jordan and wrestling? Jordan is a potential gold mine of material all on his own, although that can be said of many the GOP's Sanitarium wing like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul I might be having a stroke Gosar.

I'm sorry. If you wanna protect your daughter from public scorn, don't have her out in public. What? Your kid is so special and above others that she's not the subject of ridicule if you parade her around as a public official? They were ruthless to Amy Carter. and Patricia Nixon. and Susan Ford. and the Bush sisters. and others. Gtfoh. If you want the fame/power and use your daughter for votes, your whole family is subject to ridicule. Teach your kids to have a backbone and not care what others say or think. Or, barring that, keep her hidden from the public eye. It's not that difficult.

I remember watching the episode live and the ironic thing was you could tell Ashlee Simpson was lip syncing during her first performance because the vocals were EXACTLY what we heard on the radio every day. If a singer is actually singing live, you're going to notice any slight difference if any single note is sung differently, is flat or held out. So it's funny that you can watch her perform that first number and know it was lip syncing. and then she comes out to do the second number and is immediately busted for attempting to lip sync when the wrong song starts playing.

Its wild how Sinead was treated. Despite her being right no one has ever publically apologized, not Pesci, not Madonna. She said something no one was saying and effectively sacrificed her career for it. It also calls to mind flack Fiona Apple got during the MTV VMAS for simply telling people to be true to themselves. Something that would be applauded now, but was seen a her being ungrateful for her award then.

Kanye has always been bat crap crazy, but it wasn't until this moment that 90% of the country started to suddenly have a problem with him.
If you're there to sing, just sing. I don't care what your opinions are, that's not why you're paid to be there. So in that I see and support the issues with him, Sinead, and RATM. But it's funny that this was when the majority turned on Kanye.

Chevy Chase is not, nor was he EVER, one of the premiere figures in the American comedy scene. George Carlin, Bill Hicks, Lenny Bruce, sure. Chase is no one without SNL in the first place, but to behave as though he was some kind of famous comedian before SNL or that he went on to anything major afterwards (you could replace him in any of his movies without much difference.

There are a couple on here that are TOO important and should be required learning and taught in schools---particularly #2 and #1, along with Pete Davidson's gaffe that seems to have turned into a better end for both. There are so many caveats and points to discuss, that each one could be an entire college level course.

The thing I remember the most about Sinead's episode, her song was preceeded by a sketch about censorship.
Ironically, in the repeat Sinead's song was edited out.
Think about that.
It was edited out right after a sketch mocking censorship.

Having Trump host should be on this list! It's one thing to do a cameo from time to time but having a presidential candidate to host while he/she is running for office should be either banned or at least give the other candidate a chance to host too.

The day that we can't imitate anyone's 'accent' is indeed a dark day. Everybody mimics another accent or language someone has. It'snot 'appropriation'. it's copying. Can't even speak in a fake accent anymore huh? What a dying World.

Sinnead didn't say what her supposed protest was about for over SIX MONTHS. Everyone just thought she was a paranoid Catholic hater attacking a Pope best known for standing up for human rights. A textbook example of how NOT to protest.

What bothers me about Ashlee Simpsons scandal is not the mess-up itself, but the way she initially handled it, throwing her band under the bus after they just kept playing and jamming out as Simpson did the walk of shame off stage

Why Kanye going MAGA is such a scandal is nothing compared to Sinead' tearing up a picture of the Pope. especially considering how unhinged she has gotten. Kanye is nuts, but she is Cray Cray on levels that make him look normal.

The crazy thing about the Morgan Wallen situation is that after he finally appeared on the show, he later did the same thing again; this time also throwing around the N-wordbut then his album sales went _up_ afterwards.

The idea SOME politicians can dictate who can and can't be made fun of is sickening. THIS IS A FREE SOCIETY and FREE SPEECH is the rule. Even if in bad taste. but NO ONE should be off limits cuz of POLITICAL ties/reasons.

All of my college classmates had pretty much the same reaction, which was, What idiot thought that was a good pairing?

Dan Crenshaw tried to blame Biden's Coast Guard for the tragic deaths of those five people in the submersible. He couldn't wait to exploit the deaths for a political potshot. So much for civil discourse.

Does anyone think that Adrien Brody thing was the beginning of a long and nightmarish over-reaction - or was it appropriately bashed? Guess I should watch it. OK I just watched it. Pretty bad. Not a great idea.

SNL is proof that ex hippies can be far from progressive. Censoring RATM for being antiwar, but hosting bigots like Dice Clay, Trump, and Kanye West to be as offensive as they want and made to seem normal.

It seems to be a running theme that certain types of people just _do not understand_ what Rage Against the Machine actually means. They're not pissed off at a Xerox machine, Chadley.

It amazes me how much politics have divided us. The feeling that a comedy sketch show is a hotbed for political controversy is ridiculous. Its supposed to be fun. Its not a town hall.

As much as I hate Pete Davidson, the guy sat there at the comedy central roast while people made jokes about his dad dying on 9/11 and nobody asked anybody to apologize.

The only scandals I know about were the Ashlee Simpson lip-syncing scandal, Sinead OConnor ripping up a picture of Pope John, and a host(forget his name) dropping an F-bomb.

With situations like Rage, I think they should have the right to do nearly anything they want but the worldwide SNL stage has the choice if they get to do it there.

How can you guys bring up Chevy Chase returning to SNL and not mention how he made an insult related to AIDS/HIV about a gay cast member? (Forget his/her name)

It's pretty lousy of Ashlee Simpson to not only lip sync, but to also blame her band for the mishap. Did she ever apologize to the band?
